kemp, plz try to stay on plan even if not 72 Induction but the newer version. You are strong and have so much willpower. I know you can do it. Just stay away from the cassava cake-sometimes over 50gcarbs in one slice.

Here's a list of restaurants you can check before going for nutritional information.

Here's a picture of the Rhino. I don't do a very good job of explaining it. It's another one of those things that I just wasn't very comfortable doing when I was so much heavier. Now, I'm finally starting to enjoy a lot of things again that I used to enjoy. It's so wonderful to be gaining my life back!

WOE: Normal old atkins
Start Date: 10/21/13
Bonny: No worries. Take a lot more than that to get under my skin. You are 100 percent correct. But I love life a lot as you can tell. I am trying to eat correctly and then enjoy myself when on vacation. I am killing myself to get to a certain weight true. But I am also trying to lose the weight for ever. My long term plan is to not try but to do Atkins the rest of my life. Hoping that my CCL is high enough to allow me some treats weekly once I reach goal. Many times before I would hard cord atkins for a few months then fall off hard. This go round I am doing atkins long term. And for me that means enjoying the things I like when on vacation or when special occasions come up. Like last weekend, I planned to just drink not food cheat. I food cheated also, but instead of getting mad and continuing the cheat I got right back on, no worries at all. Where before you may have not heard from me fore months. Did not get mad at myself, stuff happens moving on. And so far so good. The true test will be 3 months from now. I would also stop working out when cheating, so far so good on that front also. So a lot has changed this go round so far. But again only been 33 days.

Just so happens a vacation lands in the middle of marathon training. Before I would do so well and when I cheated I felt so bad I just kept on cheating. This time around I am planning my cheats or "plan alterations" so I can still enjoy food which I am of course addicted too. So far so good. Like I said last weekend instead of continuing the cheating I kinda planned it and right back on plan. And losing like crazy. I hope that my working out will allow me a high CCL to enjoy whole wheat breads etc. If my CCL is not that high, then will deal with it then. I am Italian and am even ok with giving up pasta. But to say my entire life never eating pasta again is not doable for me. When I go home for thanksgiving on Thursday we will have homemade pastas and all kind of dishes loaded with carbs. When my moms family gets together it will be 74 aunts uncles and cousins, screaming and hugging and love yous and kisses, huge yearly event. People fly in from all over the world literally for this holiday. They will ask why I am eating this way but they know I am bettering myself. Oh and they will get in there jabs how unhealthy it is to eat LC while they plow through buckets of homemade pastas and lasagnas. OH and my aunt Jane (my god mother) makes the most awesome Homemade 3 dot rolls to die for. The whole house smells like a bakery. But I will only eat the turkey and its delicious skin and some develed eggs that I make myself for the party.

As far as health issues. My plan is to stay on plan 95 percent of the year. And if my body cannot handle the 5 percent then life just aint worth living!!!! LOL If i cannot enjoy eating once in a while then Why ever try to get healthy. I know those things are bad for me but so is beer, and wine and liqour. So is driving fast, and SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or coffee and diet drinks, meaning caffeine. But people still do it because they enjoy it. Life is great live it. And you will never offend me unless you talk about my Cowboys or Aggies!!!! LOL This is just discussion and it is good to debate things, it is HEALTHY!!!!

My next "plan alteration" is Dec. 20th. Just planning on drinking with the other couples, no food cheats planned or caffeine. I love not being addicted to caffeine, I just have a smooth feeling all day. When I wake up I am awake. No need to take a coffee to get my day started. Heck before I would need two double esspressos in the morning and 5-6 real cokes during the day just to keep going. Now just water.

Missydee: Thanks it that means a lot to me. By the time we leave I may just do new atkins. We have a condo so we cook a lot at there, maybe eat three times total out and about. My biggest vice is the meat patty!!! That is the first thing we get when we get on Island. I will be running 26 miles that week overall so I do not think I will be storing to many carbs over all. Will be curious how I feel running on carbs compared to running on stored fat. That my be the truest test of all as far as long term goals. I am sure carb running does not feel nearly as good as running on stored fat.

Kemp, I agree with a lot of what you said. Once I hit goal, I will allow myself to go off plan on occasion. I LOVE cheesecake. But now its not about indulging in a huge slice night after night. Its about having a few bites and sharing it with my kids. I'd never stick to LC long term if I didn't allow myself some wiggle room. Kudos to the ones who can stick to LC 100% of the time. We'll know if this works for us. If it doesn't, then we'll just have to make some adjustments. But I do eventually plan on having 1-2 cheat meals a month.

I also plan on an occasional indulgence being part of my long term plan. I absolutely expect there to be a grilled cheese sandwich with fries in my future! Just not every night like I used to do. Maybe once a year. Or being able to go out for ice cream with the kids once or twice a year.... just not 4 times in a week like I used to do. Then, after an off plan meal, I'll be right back to low carb to keep from gaining. I've never really had a plan in place for maintenance before, which is why I think I've failed so often, but this time I have a long term plan firmly in mind.

Wow! My cut-off for working outside is 26 C or 79F. I got heat stroke when I was in my 20's and now if I'm out in 80F for more than 1/2 hr, I'll get sick for sure. So I guess I won't be considering Arizona for a move. LOL. Vancouver, B.C. has very nice weather here in Canada but you have to be Donald Trump to live there......... hmm, maybe San Diego???

Oh yeah BonnyJean, you would hate it here. It's often 120 degrees or more when we take the boat out during the summer. You can't ride on the boat too long without stopping to get in the water.

Thank you!

Killin' it KEMP

Hey Buddy... you're right, you're right and more importantly you're right. I guess I was just a little surprised when you said "totally off plan". It's hard to read all the hard work you do and then just toss it. I totally agree with the occasional treats or cheats because like I said before, we'd go out of our minds if we didn't indulge once in a while. Some tend to go right off the rails when they do this. I'm confident you aren't one of those but again, SO MUCH HARD work that you do. I would be as shocked if I saw Bob Harper or Dolvette eating a tub of ice cream and yes, I put you in that category. You know you better than I know you so I hope when you take this break, you're not gonna beat up on yourself when you get back.

I'd love to follow you around for just one day........ just one cause I know the next day I wouldn't be able to even get outta bed.

Bonny: I thought you would laugh at that!!! LOL I am so glad you are here on this thread. I respect you also. Glad to have gotten to know you.

I know everybody here on this thread is trying there hardest and doing there best as you well know. I have been on and off this thread many times as everyone here knows. Each time with new vigor and a plan to make it stick. I have failed every time, I mean every time I have failed to keep the weight off. But you know what I am back. If it was not for Bonny and Mothergoose and Shelly and Missy Dee and pink and Amber and Trini and Bulldogmom and Skinny and the rest I would still be 270 pounds right now I am sure. So thanks again for all the support from everybody and glad we can have discussions on what our plans are and honest input to figure it out and do the best we can with our plans.

Sure there a few rare people that can stick 100 percent low carb for ever. I however have no plans to never ever ever ever ever eat another bowl of my moms homemade pasta and sauce, I am Italian for crying out loud!!!! LOL

That is some heat 120 degrees. WOW!!! It does not get that hot here but 105 degrees with 100 percent humidity will take your breath away. You walk outside and your covered in sweat just walking to your car. But again better than shoveling snow. Of course I have shoveled snow when I was a ski bum years ago. It sucked, but man I loved the cool weather. I guess again it is a give and take. Maybe we can all live in canada during the summer and live down here in the winter. I now there are people that do that, I am not one of those people, but I do by lottery tickets every week!!! LOL

I just got home from the gym a little 600 calorie burn doing weights and core exercising. Going to do some grilled pork chops for dinner with some blue cheese crumbles on top.

Hmm, I feel your pain, Kemp. Hey, I'm Irish and Scottish and haven't had a shot or a potato in 10 WEEKS!!!! UGH!!!!

MELMIS99: I've been on this for 10 wks and last week was 0 loss, this week was only 1 lb. It'll happen, perhaps slowly as I've discovered but as long as you stick with it, it will work. Try not to indulge in the spoonful here and there cause they can really slap you in the face!!! Good luck, sweetie.

The issue is that I am not on a stall, I started Atkins 10/31/13 so I would have expected some weight loss by now. And this my first time ever on the diet. Its crazy because I was a carb-a-holic and didnt really watch what I ate and maintained this same weight. Frustrating.

Yup, all my friends are watching the big GREY CUP CFL game today and their houses and bellies are full of alcohol and horrible carbs. I guess they're enjoying themselves. Not a football fan but I think after 10 wks I could sit amongst all that crap and it wouldn't bother me, well I think that anyway.

Hmm, I've only been on this for awhile myself but me thinks you're not telling us everything??? You've only been on for 3 wks and this is your first time on Atkins so yes, I can see why you're a little frustrated but try putting the veggie with a meal rather than a snack. I don't eat mayo or pork rinds, kind of unnecessary carbs. My only snack twice a week might be 1/2 cup of s/f jello. Did the read the allowed foods on Atkin's Induction??
I hate to see you so frustrated but there are a lot of wiser folks than me here and they have so much good advice to share. You'll learn and things will balance out and you will succeed if you give it 100%.

My cheesecake was a small hit today at our church lunch. There were Soo many desserts though! I had some leftover and just threw it away so I wouldn't be tempted to eat the rest Lol! I actually had a Lot to choose from LC wise today! There was a Big platter of stuffed jalepenos wrapped in bacon. Omg Delish! And lots of ham and turkey plus salads. Only dessert I had was My cheesecake but Man it was Murder to resist my Aunts caramel banana pudding! I used to eat a Huge bowl everytime she'd make it! But I walked away Happy

Here is yesterdays menu:
B: 2 egg omelet w/ mushrooms
S: Cup of steamed broccoli
L: Tuna /w Mayo & Siriacha (sp?)
S: Handful of pork rinds
D: 2 cups of Rottisserie chicken 1 cup of cooked cauliflower w/ butter & garlic.
The biggest thing that stands out for me because of my experience is the pork rinds. Not because they aren't legal but because they're high in sodium. I tried eating them beginning of my journey and they caused me to gain the next day or not lose. All water weight but weight that wasn't going away unless I stopped them. Some people do fine on them though. I also eat veggies once a day max. A lot of us here do that and it does seem to help.

Melmis: You may be resistant. Or you may have that thyroid thing. Lots of thing. When it does not work I always say, go super simple. Just a meat and egg fast. no cheese, no veggies, just meat and fat and eggs for 4-6 days and see if that does it. Do not measure anything. Eat and I mean eat till full. If hungry again an hour later eat again. If that does not produce results then you need to look for the issue. Remember, that is it, no peppermints, no sugar free gum, no one french fry this wont hurt. Nothing but meat, eggs and fats. I could be way off but that is what I would do.

What are you drinking?
The mayo, sriracha, and the pork rinds may all have hidden sugars and corn syrup depending on the brand. Look at those labels.
I entered your menu into my food calculator guesstimating 1/4c on mushrooms, one can tuna, 2tbs mayo, 1tbs sriracha, 2.5ounces pork rinds, Carbs showed as 14 net, fat 107, protein 183, and cals at 1808.

Based on that and if no hidden sugar or corn syrup, my suggestion would be to increase fat and lower protein. I try to keep my fat at 1.5times more than fat with protein 60 to 100 depending on the day.

I use mayo all the time- the full fat Kraft Real Mayonnaise. If you are not adding much salt to your foods, I don't see an issue with the pork rinds. I use pork rinds but make sure nothing extra is added into it - sometimes the flavored version do add in sugars.

Missy dee: Good call. Even Atkins says to read the ingredients not to rely on the nutrition data. The flavored pork rinds do have hidden carbs.

I agree with you. The only reason I brought up pork rinds is because some people will retain water when they eat them. I always have a gain even if I just eat a small amount. I'm suspecting its the sodium since it was the plain ones that I ate. Some people have said it was an issue for them too. I'm just throwing everything out there.

I agree too with you bulldog. Excess sodium can make some retain water. I now mostly make homemade pork rinds that way I control what they have in them and make them with my own seasoning.

I buy the fattiest pork roasts - ones with a big chunk of fat and they usually are the cheapest that way. I have the butcher cut off the fat chunk and give it back to me with the roast. Then I cut the fat chunk up into 1 to 2 inch slices. Spread on a tinfoiled baking sheet and season them with whatever spices I want. Bake 325 for three to four hours until they are nice and crispy. Yummy!

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I havent given in to any cravings other than the night out for anniversary celebration (1 week ago) and to tell you the truth, this WOE has been relatively easy other than when my son wants to put some cookie dough in the oven. Oh also, I will have 1/2 cup of coffee black maybe 2x per week if I am absolutely depleted.

I am using Hellmans mayo, which was recommended, but if there is a better brand, please let me know. I have had the same small bag of pork rinds for over a week and still have over a 1/2 bag but will take that into consideration. I was constipated for 4 days and took a laxative and picked up some magnesium to make me regular. It hasnt kicked in yet (24 hours). Since it has been 4 weeks going to try the super simple method and stick to meat and eggs and see how that works out for me. Wish me luck!
