Ava; Way to go on the loss, downward trend is the key

Mjgh06: Oh i enjoyed myself. Even after a few beer and all kind of chips, dips, sheet birthday cookies, tortillas and buns for rib-eye sandwiches i stayed focused and did not cheat on any food except 8 peanuts. I feel like that was a win.

It's all good, right? Are we not supposed to be creating a way of incorporating a new way of eating for life?? We have to have these occasional moments or I think we would all go out of our minds. If we can't enjoy the odd discrepency, how could we manage this for life. I feel like this isn't today's challenge, it's our lifestyle challenge so I really hope you had a really good time and many more to come. You are working incredibly hard at this and need a break once in awhile. Good for you, Kemp and God bless you on your tenacity!!

I was expecting more results in first week and a half. Hopefully this week I will see some lb's drop off. May have to rethink that goal.

Start of induction 10/31: Weight Unknown

11/7: 196.6
11/8: 196.6
11/9: 196.6
11/10: 196

melmis, If you don't know where you started from, how do you know you didn't have amazing losses? In that first week, from 10/31 to 11/6, you could well have dropped quite a bit. That first week is usually the best losses, and in the 2nd week it often slows down. Don't get discouraged, the point it that it IS going down.

"The Biggest Loser"...losing 10 lbs a week!

How is that possible?

Even severely limiting ones' carbs or calories would bring about an average 5 lbs a week.

Just curious
Thanks for sharing all the info regarding "The Biggest Loser". After doing some additional research I found out that they do exercise excessively...sometimes 6 hours a day, which is crazy! Also all nutritionists say that the key to weight loss is more about what you eat. Exercise is something additional to rev up the metabolism or to keep you on track (i.e., we make better food choices when we do some exercise). I will stick with my 30 min to 45 min daily exercise & focus more on what I eat. I seem to be stuck at 165, but I am losing, so I will just keep on keeping on, 1 lb at a time!

Skinny, I regularly listen to the Jillian Michaels Podcasts when I'm traveling, and she has said that they sometimes exercise up to 8 hours a day! Since they're basically secluded from everyone and everything else, all that they have to do during this time is focus on weight loss and extreme exercise. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have that opportunity, but for it's just not realistic in the real world. Even in her podcasts, Jillian Michaels stresses that your food is the primary way to change your life and lose the weight. Of course she does advocate exercise, but she does make it clear that all the exercise in the world isn't going to help if you don't change your way of eating. Even though she isn't pro low carb, I get a lot of great info from her podcasts.

good morning everyone! well i guess the almond butter was a terrible idea. I threw out the fake peanut spreads - blech! One of my bands played a pig roast last night and boy was that good! My housemate mike left this morning for a vacation - to see his daughter in upstate NY - he went shopping yesterday and got some cheese and a whole roasted chicken and last night the BBQ folks gave me a whole bbq'd rump and it's huge! so i have plenty to eat until Saturday ----

Yes I definitely agree. I am pretty sure I was in the 200 range because the two weeks before I ate whatever and whenever I wanted so part of my weight loss is reversing that week. After the two week mark I plan on incorporating some cardio. Thanks for the encouragement!

Can't weight for the clothes to loosen up.

DQ; Man that sounds good. I love me some rump!!! Enjoy it all week. Thinking of smoking a chicken tonight for the week.

Been a lazy day so far. Made some egg salad for the week and will make some sort of chicken tonight. Looking forward to starting week number 4. I started on a Tuesday, so by Tuesday it will have been 3 full weeks on plan. Strict induction except for beer on Saturday so will call it a win. Would love to see 147 on that scale Tuesday morning but will take anything in the 240's. Have a great Day!!!

Tomorrow will be my day to get weighed at the gym - really hoping that there's been a drop!

Had a 'date-night' Friday with my bestie, involved wine, wings a 3km walk, dancing, 4 michelob ultras and then she wanted to order something else - we settled on spinach artichoke dip, they served it with tortilla chips & pita bread. I know I was way over but hoping the almost 17,000 steps I took that day will help out. Got up Saturday morning and realized that I didn't have my Bodymedia on, looked everywhere in the house and couldn't find it. Finally called the first place we were at and they had it - phew!!! It's amazing how much I've come to depend on it.

[QUOTE=kempmuhlbauer;16677984]melmis99: Your down trend is the goal. Post a menu or two so we can see what you are eating and may make a suggestion or two.

In the beginning I was drinking way too much water and my TOM just ended Saturday. I was pretty close to 180 to 200 oz per day. Also some meals I was getting too full. I have to understand a little better how these vegetable adds to omelets, etc, really fill me up. I am going to work on portion control as well. I tend to grab snacks on the fly that could be adding up too.

A sample menu:

Breakfast:
2 egg omelet w/ 1 tbsp on whipping cream
1/2c broccoli
1/2c mushrooms
or
3 eggs with spinash

Snack:
1c. fresh Broccolli with french onion dip

Lunch:
Serving of Crack Slaw
or
Salad with serving of meat w/ blue cheese dressing

Snack:
3oz of summer sausage
1oz of cheddar cheese

Dinner:
Ribeye
Broccolli steamed with cheese
or Bratwurst wrapped in lettuce w/ side of broccolli.

As you can see, my go to veggies are mushrooms and broccoli. Could this be an issue?

Can I be overeating and need to watch my calories?

I made a huge pot of chili to eat on for a few days so I wouldn't have to do much cooking.... you know how it is, come back from vacation tired..lol.. not sure why they call it vacation

Dh and I are back to losing a lb a day for the last few days.... wish it would keep it up till thanksgiving, but I know that is unrealistic.. Everyone at church is asking me what am I doing to lose the weight... People are really starting to notice... that makes you feel good..

our trip back at the last part of August we brought dh 10 brand new shirts from belk, all reduced... 3XT now they are all way to big for him... He tried on his dads shirts this morning 2x and they are all to big... I think now he can wear a size 1x easily... and his pants from a 46/32 to a 40/32 and they are getting lose... so proud of him...

As far as getting off plan for a occasional treat, I think its a good thing, some can do it and go right back on plan others do it and give up when the scales don't show a loss... the key here is to know that if you go off, there is a chance you are going to gain.. mostly its a fluid gain and it will come right back off in a few days.... If you have a cheat day, don't weigh for a few days, give you body a chance to shed those carbs you took in... Also sometimes cheat days can be a good thing because it confuses your body and after that day you can have a whoosh....

the way I do it is... plan my cheat day... its usually one meal that I cheat... and then I go right back on introduction for a few days... this stops all the craving that can appear out of eating the high carbs.... one thing I found out while I was out of town is that when I ate the carbs I felt sick.. no energy, tired... I came home and slept for 3 hours... so the cheat was not a good thing for me.... I have another cheat day planned for Thanksgiving.... makes me have second thoughts about doing it

sorry for the rambling, hope it helps someone

melmis, personally, I think you've got way too many veggies in there. You didn't put how much of each vegetable you're eating every day, so maybe it's just a little bit and not too much, but just looking at your list, I know I wouldn't lose if I ate that many veggies.

Doing a lot of cooking here too for the week. Top sirloin roast in the crock pot, chicken breasts stuffed with prosciutto, pesto and asiago cheese, bacon & cheese meatloaf, bacon & prosciutto wrapped asparagus and a 5 lb spaghetti squash. Will be making a creamy pesto sauce for it.
