Trillex so very glad to see you back!!!!! (((HUGS))) My daughter is also a teacher, and has lost 150 pounds, and she too chooses to stand all day. She had her desk and chair removed completely from her class so that she wouldn't even be tempted to sit! LOL

So proud of you! You look amazing and are truly an inspiration!

Welcome Cidelsia. Glad to have you. I was on Atkins about 8 years ago and then went off and gained weight and bad health. So happy to be here. I am trying to stick at Induction on a daily basis even though I am nearing goal. It makes me feel good. I now occasionally have a beer or something else to up my carbs at a particular meal, but then it is right back down to 20. Good luck on you journey. You know this plan works. 70 pound club is fantastic.

I just gotta ask...

Does anyone know why (besides aging) Atkins takes longer the more times you do it?? I was so successful years ago and now it's a snails pace.

You pretty much answered your own question. The older we get, the harder it gets. Age, hormones, health issues..... it all plays into it.

Bonny-jean: That is right, older and more times you do this it works less effectively. Your golden shot is your first time. First time I did this WOE I ate 20 carbs a day, barley worked out and lost like crazy. Oh well such is life.

So I am an induction baby

I work way too many hours but I am determined to be healthier. I started low carb on Monday. Sunday I purchased and prepped my food.

Monday- 92 g fats, 26 g carbs, 106 g protein (Dinner steak with broccoli soup)
Tuesday- 79 g fats, 20 g carbs, 79 g protein (Dinner shrimp with cauliflower)
Wednesday-74 g fat, 26 g carbs, 83 g protein (Dinner lamb shanks)

Wednesday and Friday I work out with the trainer for an hour of intense high metabolic exercise.

My goals is to work out 5 days per week.

I work ten and sometimes twelve hour days. I am lucky my husband has been supportive and has been cooking along with me to support my goals.

I am aiming at 20 carbs. The above measurements do not separate out fiber from sugar (I am using Lose-it).

I am totally nervous about Thanksgiving coming up.

Murphles: Welcome aboard. Looks like you are giving it a good go. If this is your first time, then it is your "Golden Shot". Stay with it and you will lose. Remember what atkins says. Just this one little taste is the kiss of death on the WOE (way of eating). t k Just keep your head down and eat that turkey skin and all. Drop the pieces in the turkey greasy drippings. Enjoy. Ask as many questions as you want, I have many years on and off this plan and still have tons of questions.

Thanks for the welcome Stevie
The 70+ lbs has come off slowly over the past 3 years because I have PCOS. I took off 42 with strict lc and at my Dr.'s advice had gastric bypass in April of 2012....was at 219 the morning of my surgery....because of that I got down to 167 but now I'm back up to 185. I am not the typical surgery loser by any means. Others who had the surgery at the same time as me are in the 130's....some with major exercise and others with none at all. The surgery was supposed to "fix" the PCOS insulin resistance issues but I now know that did not happen. I am just like before and cannot eat any carbs, including fruits, etc that they pushed me to eat after surgery. So, I am back on here and back to induction eating to try to get to a healthy weight once and for all!

Murphles- I am not worried about Thanksgiving. I am just going to make my self a few lc options and eat mostly turkey and I think I will be ok. I have found some great "faux" recipes on here that I am going to try!

Just wanted to add that I have started induction MANY times over the past 10 years and lose just as well as I did the 1st time around. Could be the insulin resistance, not sure, but I can still do strict induction and be down 10-12 lbs in the 1st 2 weeks.

Welcome Murphles. Looks like you are starting out fine. Just worry about eating induction list foods and drinking lots of water. Cooking on Sunday is going to be your best strategy. Don't let yourself get hungry while you body switches over to living on fat from its history of living on sugar.

Typical percentage should be around 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs. You will need to up your levels of fat. But don't worry about it for the next couple of weeks. The transition takes some time. I bet the thought of upping your fats right now wouldn't be appealing to you, but it will in a couple weeks.

Great start, stick around and we will help get this thing dialed in. Take lots of induction list foods to work and don't let yourself get hungry. Eat real food if possible.

It's nice to see all the new people! Most of my posts end up being about maintenance, because that's where I am now, but I still do at least one "induction" day a week to keep my metabolism tuned up (at least, that's what I think I'm doing.)

My advice is just -- "Go by the book!" And if you don't have the book, yet -- "Go buy the book!" Or find the material that the Duke University doctor puts online for free. It took me months to figure out what to buy and what to cook to get my level of non-starchy veggies up to code, but once I did it all got a lot easier for me.

Thanks for the welcome

Oh my goodness-today was rough. I worked out this morning so I ate too fast. I had thrown my lunch in the cooler but I had no time to eat. I had an egg and a slice of bacon as snacks so I ate that...

Dinner was very late. I was not perfect. I had a business dinner. Calamari was on the table-tried to pick off the thin breading. I ordered a lobster and brussel sprouts. I know brussels are not on the list, but i wanted a warm vegetable and all of the salads had a bunch of crap. My lobster came with a side of mashers-which I requested to have vegetables substituted. They brought the mashers. Finally, everyone was drinking....

My workout was great-High intensity-lot's of weights.

Is there any fake dessert we can make.....?

Murph: Well come to the wonderful world of LC. You made a lot of great choices. But you will have to prep yourself a little better if possible. And as atkins say eating is the most important part of this WOE. Keep pork rinds in you brief case, or a bag of cooked bacon in the fridge. Just have a ton of lc options everywhere around you especially in the beginning. You always want to be eating in the beginning. I have even gone as far as eating straight butter if I have to just to give me something to eat at a restaurant if nothing else is available at a business lunch. try to avoid fried foods if at all possible, unless you cook it yourself. You can never get off enough breading that will not throw you out of ketosis in my experience. Sauteed spinach is your best friend floating in butter at restaurants. Or broccoli floating in butter. But you did a great job considering the options you had. Do not let this slow you down, just keep at it. Keep coming back and asking questions. Sugar free jello is a great desert option. It can stall some people. You will get lots of opinions about different things, take them all in and find the ones that work best for you.

I personally try and do this very basic. From farm to table. fewest stops as possible. Whole meats, spinach, broccoli, occasional salad. Lots of bacon bacon bacon. egg salad made yourself to avoid added sugars. etc. I have lost 23 pounds in the last 32 days and yes I work out like you. Hard and often.

You got this and you have a great attitude, just do you best. Proud of you for doing your best last night!!!

Hey Murph you are in it now. I am a business man and have to go out to lunches and dinners. You can do it low carb without calling a bunch of attention to yourself, but it takes some time to learn. Go on line and check out menus from the restaurants you frequent and figure out the best options. Alcohol is tough. When I drink, it makes me hungry the next day. If you are drinking, make sure it is low carb such as straight alcohol mixed with water or soda.

For workouts, I would suggest that you don't work out for the first couple of weeks. Let your body convert over from sugar to fat before you push yourself. It will make the transition easier. I personally lost 50 pounds with no workouts. (People said I was fat because I didn't work out hard enough and I wanted to prove them wrong.) This WOE will allow you to lose without workouts. I am not trying to discourage exercise because it is wonderful, but start in a couple weeks after your body has adjusted to the Atkins WOE.

Murph, you've already gotten a lot of great advice from the guys, I just wanted to add that if you're really needing dessert, there are a lot of low carb cheesecake recipes you can make, or you can try some fat bombs. Personally, like Kemp, I try to keep it as simple as possible, but if you really feel like you have to have something, you might want to try one of those options.

Murph: All good advice. I usually do not work out the first 10-14 days to give my body a chance to switch like Big Stevie said. Mother goose is also right, keeping it simple makes this plan very very simple, pun intended! lol If you have to have, and after 2 weeks most of those cravings are gone, you can find plenty recipes on line for cheesecakes to fudge brownies that are all low carb. But most are not allowed during induction. Good luck and keep us posted. Look forward to your success.

Another good desert item is heavy whipping cream with cinnamon and splenda. Whip it up and then let it sit in the fridge for awhile to harden. You could also do it with cocco powder if you want chocolate. No carbs, but it can pack some calories so don't over do it.

So family is home

Out and about. Yesterday we went out for breakfast after picking up my dtr from airport. Two eggs , kale and steak. Super yummie. Dinner was trout and Brussels. We had wine with dinner. This morning went shopping and had Niçoise salad. Dinner was at friends and they made ramen. I ate the pork and had charcuterie in advance. That also meant I did not do my prep in advance. I am still in ketosis so ......

It's still amazing to me how a couple of days at induction level quiets the "hungries". My goal is to eat the most varied and health-promoting diet I can while keeping my weight at a good place and getting the right amount of exercise. (I want no injuries from overdoing things, because I need the workouts to keep my head straight.) Friday and Saturday I lowered my net carbs to induction level (from the 30s to 40s range) and almost immediately noticed that my appetite got real quiet. Sunday I just didn't have much motivation to eat, so instead of having my usual late breakfast, I just skipped it, did my errands, took my long walk, and started eating around 6. Despite what the critics say, I did not "binge" or overeat or act like a maniac. In fact, I ate less than I normally would in the evenings and put some of the food I had fixed in the fridge for later.

And you know what? I am one grateful cowgirl. I've been below my original goal weight for about 10 weeks, and I'm at the age where all the Conventional Wisdom says "You can't lose weight." I was shopping for new clothes a few weeks ago and the young saleswoman said, "You look great! I want to be like you when I get there!"

Please consider this a lifestyle change and not a temporary fix to weight loss. Most who lose and stop LC, go back to the old ways and gain the weight back. If you change to LC as a lifestyle change, then you will never gain it back.
