Good work.

New Years has started with me sick. Day 8 of the flu. It really sucks this year. Just trying to get better at this point. Will check in a couple days.

Stevie, I am really sorry you are getting kicked around by this flu. Be careful with it. and MtherGoos I really love reading the track of your progress, with the little leaping happy faces. Looks like a team of cheerleaders.

I'm really happy to have made it through the holiday season without freaking out about having to occasionally eat off plan in the interests of courtesy, hospitality, friendship, or family traditions. I felt a little bit of anxiety from time to time, especially on two occasions when I felt like I was starting to go a little bit overboard or something -- it just felt like I was capable of a real binge once or twice. But all is well, my weight has been a little bit up and down (not surprising with the occasional carb-heavier meal or day), but the week's average is right exactly where I like to see it. So I am very chill and happy. Not to mention grateful.

I just wanted to share something........

I do lots of traveling with my son and often times this means eating out.....i'm still staying to plan...it's easy enough to order chicken or steak (no sauces), cheeseburgers with no bun, wings...ect.

I'm not cheating......BUT......in my DREAMS I am....lol

I have been having these crazy, and I mean crazy dreams where i'm with the kids and i'm taking a snickers bar from my kids and eating it all up. This isn't just one dream, it's like multiple dreams i've had of me cheating. And to make it better (or worse), I can actually TASTE the food and the sweets. Then in the dream I feel this huge remorse and guilt: "omg, i'm off plan, I just took myself out of ketosis for SURE".

Then I wake up, realize I haven't cheated and life goes on. Nor do I have the cravings.

But it sure is unsettling.....lol

Just figured i'd share.

I so understand!! I normally sleep so deeply that I never even remember having a dream. Once in a while I go through dream phases that are very disturbing. Like last year I had a regular dream that I started smoking! I was convinced I was smoking and thought to myself, at least nobody sees me to be disappointed in me! Too funny. At least those ones stopped!

This is EXACTLY what I went through about twelve years ago when I quit drinking and smoking! What a wonderful feeling to wake up and realize that it's not true!

Yup, I have those exact same dreams too! Even still, after almost 10 months on plan, I'll have those dreams. And I always wake up so relieved that it was just a dream!

I had really vivid dreams when I first started on Atkins. They have gone back to normal now. Enjoy them.

I associate those dreams with our addiction to sugar. Addicts get those dreams when they quit doing drugs. Very vivid dreams of using. Our minds way of dealing with not doing something that was pleasurable anymore. This is a normal reaction and in recovery you are told to expect it.

Interesting I didn't know that other addicts experience that as well.

I am finally feeling better. The flu really kicked my butt. 8 days worth. Since I have been on Atkins I have avoided all the minor sickness that my family members have suffered. But this one got me. When I am not feeling well is truly the only time I struggle on this diet. Glad to be back and eating per plan again. I didn't go too crazy, but I did have about 8 pieces of toast and a couple bananas to help calm my stomach. Eating large amounts of protein and fats when I have a bad stomach just doesn't work for me. Anyone have any go to foods when they are sick?

I haven't been sick since I started this diet, but every now and then I feel "iffy", like I have gotten myself out of sync or balance somehow, and yogurt seems to be the food that fixes me up. That and avocado. I suspect that when I am feeling "off" it is because I need my electrolytes fixed, and the potassium in these foods may be doing the trick.

Total speculation. Almost total.

Great for you. Welcome!

The first week was the toughest part for me. You should start to feel better pretty quickly. How is it going so far? What are you eating? Stay of induction list of foods and you will lose the weight.

Hey guys! How's everyone doing?

I've been on plan for two weeks now, lost all my holiday weight and am back at 198lbs. 194 was my lowest point yet, so hopefully I'll hit that again soon. I've been going to gym as well quite regularly, so weight loss isn't as fast as it could be, and I can't do exercises with as heavy weights as I could when I was off Atkins, so it kind of feels like I'm doing both but not accomplishing anything with it, but I'll carry on for now.

I think that's the trick, straphe, just get back on plan when life bumps you off. I was a little uncomfortable after the holidays, too, seemed like I blimped up a little and was just off my game in terms of diet. I think that occasionally going off plan and then getting back on again is something that is going to be the choice of a lot of us. I just hate for my diet to become the center of attention at a social event that involves eating, or for me to be the person who vetoes the restaurant that everybody else wants to go to, or to turn down a homemade treat that's offered in love and hospitality. But walk past the three-to-a-block bakeries and patisseries in my neighborhood? I do that happily!

Has anyone on this thread done any of the reading about Resistant Starch? I'm trying it as a maintenance strategy. Supposedly (along with fermented foods and some other kinds of fiber) it is very good for your gut biome, immune system, insulin sensitivity, regularity, etc. We'll see how it goes. It's a little weird for me to break the "no refined white powders" rule, but you live and learn, or you don't live long.

Satiety. That's another touted benefit. It got my attention partly for that, because I went through a spell of very uncharacteristic "night hungries" that didn't cause any weight gain but were making me a little anxious. "Oh my god it's all going to come apart now." That kind of 3 am thinking. And I don't know whether it was the changes I made or just the settling of some agenda that my system had independent of me, but I'm doing better now.

Hi!

Hi everyone - induction baby here! Well I hesitate to say it really because I'm struggling to track and to stay under 25 carbs.

I tracked today and came up around 31. I'm used to paleo and just not tracking so I'm still trying to find my way with being more accountable

I turn 33 soon and my daughter is almost 16 months old. My starting weight is 161. I am trying to lose 20-30 pounds before we try for another baby towards the end of the year.

I'm happy to have found this group!

Morning!

Hi amber! How long are you planning to stay on induction? I'm not sure myself - maybe 4 weeks?

Can we talk grocery budgets? I set a budget of 600/month for groceries and I'm already over for January! Waah! I know better planning is the key, I just have to do it. Any tips?

Welcome ladies. The first few days of Induction are tough, but then you will settle in.

Missrachelk list a couple of your menus so we can see what you are going over on and help you bring your numbers in line. It takes most people a little while to get it figured out, so you are not alone. There are on-line menu trackers that will let you know how many calories, how much fat, protein and carbs you ate that day. Your percentages should be in the range of 60-65% fat, 35% protein and 5% carbs. Some people are higher in fat, but this target is a good place to start.

I have been on Induction for a year and half basically. My daily goal is 20 carbs, but occasionally I go over. When I do go over, I go over with good (Atkins friendly) foods though and it is planned.

As far as shopping goes, it can get expensive. For starters, eat real food not processed foods; including the bars and drinks. Buy lower dollar meats at the store. For example, buy whole chickens instead of breasts. I buy several hams near Christmas and Easter when they are really cheap. I look at the newspaper adds and buy whatever meat is on sale that week. I found my grocery bill went up, but my eating out went way down so I am actually saving lots of money each month. But it is still painful going to the grocery store and seeing the large bill.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey.

I am on induction semi-permanently. Because my system is so sensitive to carbs, I use induction level carbs for OWL. I plan to eventually raise my carbs to OWL level and beyond to find my CCLM - critical carb level for maintenance.

Like Stevie, I stock up with whatever is on sale. I fill the freezer and when I plan my meals for the week, I plan around whatever is in the freezer. I also eat a lot of eggs! They're usually pretty cheap and you can do so many things with them!

Welcome Lucylu. Good luck on your first weight in. I think it is great you are only weighing once a week. Remember, you can also measure weight loss with a measuring tape or my favorite way is with the way my clothes fit.
