Bullet proof coffee tips?

So I am starting induction today (again! smh ) and I love the idea of bullet proof coffee (read about it on another post....coffee with butter and coconut oil) as a great way to start with healthy fats PLUS I am not a big breakfast eater so this seemed to be great for me!

Anyway, after searching for a frother (I don't have many kitchen gadgets) I was wondering if I am losing anything by just adding the ingredients to a cup of coffee? I microwaved the butter and oil in a mug and then added coffee on top. Is this ok? Is the blending just for taste or does that add something?

Thanks for any help...I have tried induction several times only to stall, get frustrated, and give up. I am really trying to do things right this time!!

Thanks in advance!
Jackie

I just add the coffee, butter and cc oil and either stir it up good Or if I put it in a travel mug I will shake it up good. I don't have a frother either.

If you want to make this a staple, I say definitely go for the frother. The difference is that it emulsifies the cco into the coffee, instead of leaving it as an oil slick on the top of your drink. The flavor, too, is SO much better.

Woohoo!!! Just ordered an Ikea frother and it's great to know I can still try it without the frother in the meantime (thanks princessmommy!).

I am so impressed with both your stats! Way to go!!

So have you all had benefits from this bullet proof coffee?? When I have told people about it they look at me like I'm nuts! LOL! Are there health benefits as well as just getting some good fat in?

Sorry if I ask too many questions! I just really wanna do it right this time and feel like I could benefit from both of yall's expertise!!

Yes, it was the IKEA frother that I have.

I tend to just use cream in mine, and often use the cco/cream combo in my tea later in the day - unless I'm not having breakfast, then I might do the cco/cream combo to keep me a bit more satisfied. It's quite a treat.

I don't know that I've noticed any health benefits from it, but more (for me) that it is a nice indulgence and I'm getting some fats in.

I have never heard of the bullet proof coffee but I usually
Make a mock Danish with cream cheese, egg, cc oil, a little cream and butter on top. I have my coffee with davinci sf syrups caramel and French vanilla and heavy cream. Good luck!

I love bulletproof coffee!

I got this milk frother with my Nespresso coffee machine, so I make mine in there. I just add a TB of kerrygold butter, a TB of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and if I'm feeling particularly indulgent I add a splash of double cream as well. I then fill up the Aerocino (name of my milk frother) to the maximum allowance, switch on and hey presto, nice and creamy bulletproof coffee! Mine probably isn't as foamy as when you mix it with an immersion blender, but it's emulsified nonetheless. Adding butter is the key to the emulsification. Without, the coconut oil will float to the top.

This sounds very interesting. I've seen it mentioned in other threads, but had no clue what it was. I am a certified coffee addict, so I might need to try this.

It is good. Without a frother, be careful. The coconut oil forms a barrier at the top of your cup that seals in the heat. I burned my mouth really bad the first time I tried it. Now I just blow on it to break the surface before I take a sip.

This stuff keeps me going a very long time. I am completely surprised by it.

I really love this stuff. When I first read about it, I have to be honest ..... it didn't sound anywhere near delicious. BUTTER in my coffee?

But then I tried it and WOW. The last few days I've been telling myself to buy some decaf coffee so I can have a cup in the evening, too!

I just started drinking this a couple of days ago, although all I do is put a teaspoon of butter in my coffee. A couple cups of BBC and a hand full of walnuts and I'm good until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I need to get a frother or something though, the way I'm doing it now is too greasy tasting.

I have loved butter since I was a child. My favorite thing to do is take a cold pat of butter and sip hot black coffee and let butter melt in my mouth. Mmm good

Recently been drinking BPC also. I use 1 tbsp salted butter (cause its what I have), 1 tbsp coco oil, and stevia or davincis caramel/hazelnut sf syrup. I have a little hand blender that works perfect to emulsify it. I make a pot and will heat up leftovers for a mug the next day.

Google mct's. medium chain triglycerides. They act more like carbs than fat. They are burned before long chain triglycerides, like butter etc. Studies show it increases thermogenesis and gives more energy. For those not low carb it creates a temporary ketosis. But research yourself as I might have mixed my info up a bit.

Enjoy!

I had my first BPC this morning and I am in love. I used coconut oil, HWC and some sugar-free Da Vinci English Toffee syrup, put it in the blender, and let it whir for a few seconds. It came out very cappuccino-ish with a lovely froth on top-no frother needed! It was delicious and I was very full all morning until late afternoon.

He also recommends MCT oil over just plain coconut oil, too. I just purchased some online since I couldn't find it in any stores nearby.

Just made my first mug of bulletproof coffee this morning. I used regular salted butter because that is all I have at this time......does anyone else use regular butter vs. grass-fed non salted butter?

I use organic expelled pressed CO (2tbs) and unsalted kerrygold grass fed butter (2tbs). Its pretty yummy after blending! If you're taking it "to go " in the morning and wont be consuming it quickly Id recommend blending for 4 minutes so the oils don't seperate as quickly. Keeps me pretty satiated until well past lunch time!
Randi, grass fed butter and organic eggs are two items I always splurge kn. The taste is phenomenal, the prices aren't too much higher than conventional products, and the health benefits are supposed to be exponentially higher.

I havent been on here in forever but i have been a member forever!!! I just browse usually and have been eating lowcarb for years now. This post caught my attention because i just started hard core low carb to get into ketosis to drop a couple pounds i have put on since hitting 40.
I follow a lot of nutrition and fitness blogs on facebook and heard about ghee. I had been wanting to try it but it was so expensive. I actually won a $100.00 gift certificate to Pure Indian Foods, who makes the best ghee ever, apparantly! I got it a few days ago and OMG!!! It is wonderful. They have a half ghee half coconut oil blend and i have been using 1/2 T in my coffee in the mornings before my workout and it tastes so good!! I cant believe how rich and creamy it is. I also use a small splash of half and half and some kind of flavored sf syrup. I use my emmersion blender to blend it up and it wonderful!! I think it has helped propel into ketosis really fast too. Starting the day with a good healthy dose of fat has been great. It gives me energy for my workout too. Check out Pure Indian Foods ghee. You will never go back to any kind of butter after tasting it.

I am now using salted butter, it is fine. In fact, I am adding salt to my coffee these days, as it's a good way to up my salt intake which I need to do. Sometimes instead of CO I used MCT oil. It's great in iced coffee with a small splash of HWC . . . doesn't even need to be emulsified. On a recent trip I carried a vial of MCT oil for my coffee, and used an eye-dropper to doctor up my hotel or camp caffeine.

I just had my first BPC today. I was amazed! I thought it would be disgusting but it was rather rich and luxurious! I used a plain old blender which is what the BPC site recommended and it worked beautifully. I didn't have the MTC so just used 2 Tbs of Kerrygold in my 250gm mug of coffee.

I still am not understanding the purpose of using MTC as part of the fats vs just using the butter.

Normally, I can go 4.5-5 hours from breakfast to lunch (2 eggs and .7 oz of cooked bacon), but the one mug of coffee kept me going for almost 7 hours! Even then I wasn't really hungry but thought I should probably eat something. My only problem is that my calories only came in at 800 for the day because I wasn't all that hungry at dinner either!

Normally I have to struggle to keep my protein in control, but today I'm under 50, carbs under 5 and my fats are sitting at 74%. Not sure if that's good or not. It's certainly different that what I have been doing.

I had two cups of BPF this morning (nursing school started back today, and I knew I needed something to keep me satiated for 5 hours of lecture) and just got hungry a few hours ago. That's about 11 hours between bpc and dinner...wow! Ive also had problems controlling protein, so I may make this a breakfast staple (with one cup instead of two) and see how it works out.

Yes and that was actually a surprise! My BG has been fairly consistent at around 90-95 for the last 5 months but this last week I've been struggling with it wanting to sit around 105 or so. Probably because I haven't been sleeping well due to some new aches and pains (result of my kickboxing class ).

Well yesterday my BG dropped down to 85 (even though I had another bad night) and it sat there the whole day with only minor fluctuations after meals! I'm going to have BPC for breakfast for a week and see if this trend continues.

I have had a BPC for the last two mornings. I was worried that I would have an upset stomach or something. I am so happy that it tastes so good and I don't have any of the stomach problems that I read about. I use 1 Tbsp of CO, 1 Tbsp of HWC, and a splash of SF coffee flavoring. YUMMY!!!

I've had Bullotproof coffee before, it's really good.
I use my vitamix ( I'm sure any blender will do)
and it makes it really good. Emulsifies
and it tasted great without HWC, and any sweetener!!

Its the only way I can get away from HWC (one of my stalls/ and weaknesses)
make sure to keep the lid on good, I've had bulletproof t-shirts

This sounds so awesome. I have got to try it. I ususally only have water with my breakfast, but I do miss my coffee and to be able to have the fats included, wow extra bonus there.

Aomiel, mct oil and coco oil are medium chain triglycerides. The coco oil is used first, like carbs in a way. You should do some research and put one or the other in your coffee. Very good. 1-2 tbsp of butter, coco oil, and sweetener if needed.
