Induction question: is this too much to eat?

Hello,

I'm trying to get acclamated back to low-carbing...trying to do it by the book this time and staying there. I am on my 4th week of induction, and I'm proud of myself that I have been eating only what is on the list of allowable foods. Staying at 20 grams or slightly less.

I'm wondering if this is way too much to eat for a meal. Today, I had (2) 5oz. drained cans of tuna for lunch today. I mixed it up with a 1/4 cup of regular mayo and 1T dill relish. According to DANDR, you can eat liberally of fish including tuna. Even though the book says this and I was not stuffed, I still just have this feeling that this was too much to eat for a meal.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Stacy,

Eat until no longer hungry, and it looks like you did that. Just like you said, yes, you can eat liberally of fish, beef, turkey, chicken, seafood, etc. Looks to me as if you are doing just fine by reading your post.

It sounds ok to me. If you are staying under 20 carbs for the day and not eating past satiation seems you are following the rules. IF the quantity or amount of protein bothers you may be you could have some of that tuna salad for dinner. What do you other meals look like?

My other meals for today:

Breakfast I had 2 fried eggs over a sauteed 1/2 cup total of "other" veggies (peppers/zucchini/onion) and 2 slices uncured canadian bacon.

For dinner tonight, its a salad of lettuce, taco meat, salsa, sour cream, cheddar, chopped red pepper, black olives & avocado

I will probably have a cup of decaf tea or decaf coffee w/HWC later tonight .

The longer you are on induction you'll likely find your appetite decreases. I start out ravenous and then about day 5, I start to need less and less. YMMV.

I've noticed that too. I am traveling and had a big plate of scrambled eggs and sausage at 7:00AM and still wasn't hungry at lunch, although i had a little big of salad with bacon bits and cheese with ranch dressing. Ate a steak and mixed veggies for dinner, i'm pretty good now. (i'm on day 14)

Looks good. Agree with eating to satisfaction and not beyond.

My only critique is that olive oil or butter is a better fat than mayo. I'm not a big fan of soybean oil, so I limit commercial mayo. Thus, I don't eat a lot of tuna, because it's a pain in the patooty to keep homemade olive oil mayo around.

How about canned chicken with avocado and olive oil smooshed into it, with dill relish, diced celery, and diced bell peppers?

ETA-- now that I think of it, that wouldn't be a bad mix for tuna, either. I like sushi with fish and avocado, so I bet tuna/avocado/olive oil salad would be tasty.

Not all commerical mayos are made with soybean oil.
Check your label (or make your own).
Spectrum makes a canola mayo, and Hanes has a safflower mayo.
Canola may be better for us (?) but Hanes tastes better to me.

If you can lose weight following Atkins/low-carb and be eating more calories, go for it. I'm surprised at how little some people have to eat on these forums.

I've noticed I will go a few days and eat a normal quantity, then a day when I'm super hungry (so I eat more) then a day when I'm not hungry at all, so I eat less.

I'm still losing. It's slow, but it's consistent.

Until I have a real stall, I'm not changing anything.

I appreciate everyone's input and I will eat as I've done so....until I'm no longer hungry. I will be careful not to push it - thanks!

According to DANDR's guide, my metobolic resistance level is average. I walk 3-4x a week and I lost 8 lbs on the first 2 weeks of induction, had the TOM at the 4th week and i'm still at only the 8lb lost. I"m not complaining, but I just want to make sure that I am not taking in too much (albeit that I am at 20 grams of carbs or less) and preventing a loss with possible too-large of portions (?) I'm shooting for 1 pound a week, but I realize it may not work that way. Again, thanks to all!

I'm almost always hungry and I've been on induction for three months plus. I just got back from a small vacation, still stayed on plan beside a little excess of hwc for homemade ice cream and mich ultras everday. I ate a lot, from 2500-3400 calories every day. I started around 273-274 when I left friday and I was 269.8 this am. I usually stay around 1800-2400 calories per day. I think people get stuck in thinking they need to limit calories like every other woe.
