Well, the up and down continues. I need to get into the next 10 lbs off!! my goal is not going to be met and is just a few days left til end of month. Ugh. I remember back in the day when I would lose 8-10 lbs in one month. what happened to those days I don't know. This time around is so much harder for me. I really really really would be so much happier if I saw 215 or even just 219. LOL. anyways, keep on truckin. As for now, I'm full.

B: small filet mignon and 1 cup zucchini / squash

Went missing for awhile, I guess have 4 kids at home is more than I can handle

I started January 17th at 191.
I'd like to lose atleast 4 lbs.... Edited to lose 8lbs since I already met my original goal.
May 31 170.

June 2 170. 3 days off soda, also taking a break from my supplements...
June 3 170 12 carbs today hope lower carbs will make the scale move...
June 4th 167!!! Finally kicked my stall!!
June 6th 167 it's staying off, looks like I'm a 15 carb a day to lose weight...
June 7th 166, I've made up for the month now 4 more lbs for June?
June 27th 164, two lbs to goal, I've already lost more than I have any other month though, just have to keep the carbs around 15...

Ok, so I wasn't hungry yesterday at all and I decided just don't eat till you are hungry. And that's what I did and look I finally lost. I actually saw a glimpse of 219.8 lol but the scale locked on 220. LOL So today is anther day and I'm determined to get into that next decade. 219 or less.....HERE I COME!

Whats everyone's weekend plans? Garage sale for me and yes, I had to pick the hottest day of the year. 105 tomorrow ugh! but I've been piling up the items in my living room and it's taking over. Time to clean house! With two kids growing out of everything its time to sell sell sell. And nothing is coming back into the house. All donated after that. Now my car is making a funny noise so the money will probably be spent on repairs. it's always something!

Shelly, so glad they're finally going to take care of your car!

Shelly, if you don't mind, I have a question for you. In talking to my Dr today, he said that it was fine for me to continue my WOE right up until my surgery, but he really wants me to eat a more "balanced" diet for a few weeks after surgery. He said that he's afraid that if don't, it could affect my healing. Did you continue to stay low carb immediately after your surgery? I've been planning to, I've even told my daughter she's going to have to bring me food in the hospital. LOL. What did you do? And did you recover pretty quickly? If that's all too personal, you don't have to tell me.

To be honest I didn't plan ahead and make up LC meals like I should have for after my surgery so for the first 3 days i'd say I ate semi LC, I ate toast a few times because the pain meds made me sick But other then that I Ate LC. My Dr knew I eat LC and didn't say a word about changing my eatting after surgery. I wonder why he thinks you need to? I'd think the veggies etc on LC would help you heal faster. Well I didn't have any problems anyway. And sweetie you can ask me Any questions you need/want to! I'm here for ya!

Thank you! I kind of figured he really didn't know too much about this WOE. He isn't my regular Dr., but he's the one that will be doing the surgery. When he asked what vitamins I take, and I gave him the list, and said that I take Magnesium and Potassium because I'm on a Ketogenic WOE, and he asked if that meant I'm starving myself. LOL. Hardly! You should see they YUMMY Rib Eyes I eat for dinner! HA!! Anyway, I did get the feeling that he just didn't understand much about it. Thank you again for sharing!!

Re: vitamins-- there's been a lot in the news lately about vitamins and how most of us don't need to take them -- some may actually harm you, etc.
This is from the Mayo Clinic--

Who needs supplements?

If you're generally healthy and eat a wide variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, low-fat dairy products, lean meats and fish, you likely don't need supplements.

However, the dietary guidelines recommend supplements — or fortified foods — in the following situations:

Women who may become pregnant should get 400 micrograms a day of folic acid from fortified foods or supplements, in addition to eating foods that naturally contain folate.
Women who are pregnant should take a prenatal vitamin that includes iron or a separate iron supplement.
Adults age 50 or older should eat foods fortified with vitamin B-12, such as fortified cereals, or take a multivitamin that contains B-12 or a separate B-12 supplement.

Dietary supplements also may be appropriate if you:

Don't eat well or consume less than 1,600 calories a day
Are a vegan or a vegetarian who eats a limited variety of foods
Are a woman who experiences heavy bleeding during your menstrual period

This was after a workout. LOL. the scale initially locked in on 220.0. I will take it though. Hoping to keep the weight off this weekend. Need to go get some chicken. Craving it! Having a garage sale tomorrow morning. my SIL is coming to help me. I had to pick the day when it is going to be 107! ugh. but I have a pool to cool off in afterwards. Only thing...we like to drink so hopefully I will limit myself to 2 on Friday night (shes spending the night) and we also like to grub on salad so that will work out just fine. well everyone have a great weekend. Leaving the office now (day off) came in to print my garage sale signs. Wish me luck!

Congrats to all our losers!

I'm excited it is the weekend. However, I tend to struggle more with eating too much on the weekends. I have very little trouble staying on plan, I just tend to eat more than I should. I've found that I have had to greatly reduce my food quantity to see any movement on the scale. Even then, it has has barely been a pound a week. It is better than gaining though!

When I drop one more pound I will hit the big milestone of 50 lbs lost. I can't wait! I will also be 10 lbs from goal so I'm sure the last 10 lbs will be the hardest yet! To make matters worse, next Friday we are driving to Missouri to visit my family. That will be tough I'm sure! I will be strong though! I don't want to have to re-lose even a pound due to bad food choices. It is just not worth it.

How Carbs Can Trigger Food Cravings

Are all calories created equal? A new study suggests that in at least one important way, they may not be. Sugary foods and drinks, white bread and other processed carbohydrates that are known to cause abrupt spikes and falls in blood sugar appear to stimulate parts of the brain involved in hunger, craving and reward, the new research shows. The findings, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that these so-called high-glycemic foods influence the brain in a way that might drive some people to overeat.
For those who are particularly susceptible to these effects, avoiding refined carbohydrates might reduce urges and potentially help control weight, said Dr. David Ludwig, the lead author of the study and the director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. “This research suggests that based on their effects on brain metabolism, all calories are not alike,” he said. “Not everybody who eats processed carbohydrates develops uncontrollable food cravings. But for the person who has been struggling with weight in our modern food environment and unable to control their cravings, limiting refined carbohydrate may be a logical first step.”
Regardless of the diet they choose, most people who lose a great deal of weight have a difficult time keeping it off for good. For many people, despite their best efforts, the weight returns within six months to a year. But a few studies of weight loss maintenance, including a large one in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2010, have reported some success with diets that limit high-glycemic foods like bagels, white rice, juice and soda.
In addition to raising blood sugar, foods that are sugary and highly caloric elicit pronounced responses in distinct areas of the brain involved in reward. Earlier imaging studies have shown, for example, that the main reward and pleasure center, the nucleus accumbens, lights up more intensely for a slice of chocolate cake than for blander foods like vegetables, and the activation tends to be greater in the brains of obese people than it is in those who are lean.
But do rich desserts have a select ability to change our longer-term eating habits?
To get a better idea, Dr. Ludwig and his colleagues recruited a dozen obese men and then fed them milkshakes on two different occasions separated by several weeks. In each case, the milkshakes were nearly identical: flavored with milk and vanilla, and containing the same amount of calories, carbohydrates, protein and fat.
But on one occasion, the shakes were made with high-glycemic corn syrup; on the other, a source of low-glycemic carbohydrates was used. “These test meals were identical in appearance and tastiness, and we verified that our subjects had no preference for one or the other,” Dr. Ludwig said.
As expected, blood sugar levels rose more quickly in response to the high-glycemic milkshake. But the researchers were especially interested in what happened several hours later, about the time most people are ready for their next meal.
What they found was that four hours after drinking the high-glycemic shake, blood sugar levels had plummeted into the hypoglycemic range, the subjects reported more hunger, and brain scans showed greater activation in parts of the brain that regulate cravings, reward and addictive behaviors. Although the subject pool was small, every subject showed the same response, and the differences in blood flow to these regions of the brain between the two conditions “was quite substantial,” Dr. Ludwig said.
“Based on the strength and consistency of the response,” he added, “the likelihood that this was due to chance was less than one in a thousand.”
Previous research suggests that when blood sugar levels plummet, people have a tendency to seek out foods that can restore it quickly, and this may set up a cycle of overeating driven by high-glycemic foods, Dr. Ludwig said. “It makes sense that the brain would direct us to foods that would rescue blood sugar,” he said. “That’s a normal protective mechanism.”
Christopher Gardner, a nutrition scientist at Stanford University who was not involved in the new study, said that after decades of research but little success in fighting obesity, “it has been disappointing that the message being communicated to the American public has been boiled down to ‘eat less and exercise more.’”
“An underlying assumption of the ‘eat less’ portion of that message has been ‘a calorie is a calorie,’” he said. But the new research “sheds light on the strong plausibility that it isn’t just the amount of food we are eating, but also the type.”
Dr. Gardner said it was clear that the conventional approach of the past few decades was not working. A more helpful message than “eat less,” he said, may be “eat less refined carbohydrates and more whole foods.”
