DQ I take some cream cheese, add a tiny bit of vanilla and some sweetner and mix it together. Then take the Biggest strawberries you got and split them about half way down and put cc mix in between. I'm sure there's a fancier way to do it Lol. Or I just slice them into the bowl and eat them that way.

I fell of the wagon again this weekend. I am however right back on. Seems like every weekend I find a reason to fall off plan. I have a big fishing/hunting trip this weekend coming up which I know i will be off again. I did however get in my workouts even when off plan and that is a huge step in the right direction. I usually just stop it all, but am now continuing the workouts, so that is a big win for me. So hardcore all week then off again then a big push from May 6th till memorial day weekend. That will be 18 straight days of on plan and hope to lose 18 pounds during that time. With double workout days and VLC I hope to get it done.

Here is a story about a really interesting study published a few months ago in the New England Journal of Medicine. It delineates some common myths and not so well known truths about obesity and dietiing. The researchers took a look at all the literature on obesity/weight loss and discovered that a lot of things we believe are true about obesity and weight loss- are in fact based on zero evidence, or, at the most, extremely small studies (ie 10 people). The lesson: don't accept something as true just because someone tells you it's true without solid medical evidence.

New England Journal of Medicine

A new study in NEJM reviews the myths and truths behind weight loss.
David Allison—director of the University of Alabama's Nutrition Obesity Research Center—and his team set out to identify and debunk common obesity myths. After conducting online searches for weight loss and obesity articles in popular media, scientific literature, and public health recommendations, the team identified seven myths about obesity:
1. Small changes in calorie intake and exercise will create big, long-term weight changes.
2.Setting realistic goals for weight loss is important for sustained weight loss and prevent frustration.
3. Hefty, rapid weight loss is linked with poorer long-term outcomes than gradual weight loss.
4. Assessing diet readiness is important for patients who seek weight-loss treatment.
5. Physical education classes in their current form play an important role in preventing childhood obesity.
6. Breastfeeding protects babies against obesity later.
7. Sexual activity burns 100 to 300 calories.

Meanwhile, the team also identified six presumptions about weight loss, which were defined as unproven yet commonly espoused propositions. They included the idea that regularly eating breakfast protects against obesity and the assumption that yo-yo dieting increases mortality risks. The researchers determined that the myths often began as one small study and then were spread by supporting association studies. "The question is: 'Is it a causal association?'" Allison says, adding that scientists "need to stop doing association studies after an association has clearly been demonstrated." Moreover, the practice can create "ineffective policy" and "unhelpful or unsafe clinical and public health recommendations," Allison says. "Many of the myths and presumptions about obesity reflect a failure to consider the diverse aspects of energy balance, especially physiological compensation for changes in intake or expenditure," the study says.
What is true about weight loss and obesity?
In the study, the researchers identified nine truths about obesity and weight loss. They are:
1. Genes do play a role in one's weight, but not a role that role cannot be overcome with sufficient environmental influence.
2. Diets effectively reduce weight.
3. Increased exercise improves health, potentially mitigating the harmful effects of obesity.
4. Exercise in sufficient doses can help maintain weight.
5. Maintaining conditions that first promoted weight loss helps individuals maintain lower weight.
6. For overweight children, involving the parents is critical to reducing weight.
7. Meal replacements and following meal plans do aid in weight loss.
8. Some weight-loss drugs help individuals achieve meaningful weight loss.
9. Bariatric surgery—in appropriate cases—does promote long-term weight loss and decreased risk of diabetes and mortality.

One caveat is that some docs who reviewed the study in NEJM (essentially giving critiques) agreed with the conclusions - but noted that some of the researchers received payments from bariatric surgery groups and diet food companies like jenny craig. That explains the finding about - no need to "be prepared" for weight loss.

Lost 40 pounds back then and maintained for almost 8 years...then carb creep crept. I've always been low carb, but went hard core again in March 2012.

Do you all really weigh yourself every day? I see weight gains/losses of 3 pounds in a day that cant be good to see that everyday just wondering why? Most diets say only to weigh once a week???

JustJesse, I weigh myself every morning. For Me personally it keeps me on track and accountable. Some people only weigh once a week and some once a Month. I say whatever works for you is great!

Okay, have been on Atkins about 8weeks.. At 6weeks I stalled, I tried every thing everyone recommened... So this weekend went off plan to shake it up..back on Monday and did lose some of the water I gained (2 lbs.). Sooo hopefully this will work..

April goal: 250

End of month: 248. Not complaining..lets go May

HI Everybody! I had to make an unexpected trip out of town, and was gone for a few days. There's so much to catch up on!

Before I left, the scale had been stuck for a few days, and I was feeling a little discouraged. I know Kemp mentioned before that according to Dr. Atkins, a stall is 6 weeks, but to him a stall is a few days, and I feel the same way. Especially with as much as I have to lose. When I get closer to goal, I know it will be harder to lose, but right now, there's PLENTY of fat to shed!

Anyway, when I told my daughter I needed to make a trip out there this weekend, (she's 25, and a teacher in Kansas), she excitedly told me that that meant Orange Leaf. Orange Leaf is this super amazing frozen yogurt place that they have there. Last November when I went out there for a week, we went 4 times that week! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to go with my kids and grandkids and planned to make it a cheat treat, and since the scale hadn't moved anyway, I figured "What the heck!" We went to Orange Leaf after church on Sunday, and when I walked in the door, it smelled HEAVENLY! Fresh baked waffle cones and fresh baked brownies. Oh boy! BUT as they all started grabbing bowls to make up their concotions of amazing goodness, I just didn't want any. WTH??? I know, CRAZY! But I truly just didn't want it. I had fun just visiting with them as they all ate, but I wasn't even tempted. It was weird. Now, I think that if I had told myself that I COULDN'T have it, it might have been a different story. I might have been fighting myself, and even caved in and had it. I'm not sure if this is making any sense at all!

Anyway, I finally got home late last night..... and when I weighed this morning, I had a 3 pound loss!!!
