CMCD - you aren't worried about being too low in carbs? I find when I am less than 20 on a regular basis my body doesn't loss anything. And I found for myself (last time), that I could evetually get all the way up to 50 carbs a day and still continue to lose.

I'm not sure Gab. I'm only on day 8 of induction and I'm still trying to find the CARB ZONE so to speak. I meant to eat more carbs but I'm having a hard time because I have totally lost my appetite and when I do eat, everything tastes sweet! I plan more carbs, but then I don't eat them.

I do know I don't lose if I go over 20 c per day though. I gain. I'm trying to find the right number for optimal loss. Some days getting up to 20c is really hard!

I read some more Atkins literature and it says "try to get as close to 20 carbs per day" sooo I tried upping my carbs today.

B - 3 eggs 1.5c, decaf sf Suisse mocha (after 30 mins) 2c
S - pork rinds 0c cheese 2c
L - leftover steak 2oz bacon green beans 3c
S - 1/2 atkins snack bar 1c
D - cheese 1c pepperoni 1c cauliflower 1c
S - sf jello with reddiwhip 1c

total 13c for the day. Hope the increase in carbs will help! I can't eat another thing, that was SO much food!

Today's menu:
B: 2 cheesecake muffins and coffee w/hwc 5c
S: 2 hb eggs and flax bread with butter 2c
L: salad with tuna in oil and mayo 2c
S: celery stick, probably some meat or cheese 1c to 3c
D: Beef casserole w/cauliflower 4c (approx)

I had some "extras" the last couple of days unfortunately: on the scale I went up 2 lbs but my clothes look and feel looser. I had a couple of bites of choc on Sunday and 2 glasses of bubbly last night. No more of that!

I think you might be on to something Gab. After upping my carbs a little yesterday, I'm down 3lbs today. May be a coincidence, but just in case, I'm going to try to get closer to 20c again today and see how it goes on the scale. I haven't eaten anything yet but this is the plan...

B - Bariatric protein shake 3c and decaf sf suisse mocha 2c
L - Pork Roast and the leftover bacon green beans 6c
D - Crack Slaw (going to try the recipe I found on this forum) says 3c
S - Carb Smart ice cream bar maybe? 4c

40oz water and 4oz crystal light

I am glad that worked out for you CM. I know there are lots on the boards who do quite well at the lower to almost no carb levels but there are lots others (like myself) that do better with 20 or more a day. I find that sometimes if i have a high day (closer to 30), I will back off the following day (less than 20). But aim for an average of 20. Plus that allows for the little extras that I didn't account for - crystal lights, diet sodas etc.

I was so tired yesterady after the holiday and first day back to work that I failed to plan breakfast or lunch ahead today. So this morning I grabbed a breakfast wrap from DD -- 14g of carbs! (oops). Lunch will likely be tuna on a salad. Dinner - I don't know yet but I will probably just scramble some eggs - keep it small and simple.

I need to plan tonight for tomorrow so I am not caught "scrambling" again (LOL).

I really want to finally get around to making the cream cheese muffins and some egg muffins. Especially since my DH is starting his morning shifts this week (he goes in at 4 AM) which means it is just me and the baby in the mornings getting up, dressed, showered and out the door. And I am NOT a morning person!

Hi Ruth!
I'm with you on the having extras in the past few days. Easter baskets in the house with non-LC goodies is bad! I have to get my non-sugarfree stuff out of the house! Too easy to indulge otherwise.

Yesterday (Day 1)
B - 2 hard boiled eggs
L - chicken salad with 1/2 avocado and mayo (just ate it out of the bowl with a fork)
S - two slices of turkey breast and 1 slice of provolone
D - chicken breast sauteed with taco seasoning, 1 tbsp salsa, sprinkle cheddar and 1tsp sour cream.

Today so far - 4/2/13
B - 3 hard boiled eggs
S - 1 Atkins bar

More to come...

I need to look into other options because I just can't eat one more egg for a while! That's why I'm doing a protein shake today. If I have to eat eggs, maybe trying it different ways will help. So far I've eaten maybe a dozen boiled eggs in the last week. I can't stand the sight of them now :s

Welcome Allie - we would be happy to have you join in! You know they have been advertizing a tuna/avocado salad on the radio and now you mention a chicken salad with avocado. I need to get me some avacado LOL.

Hi Allie =)

I'm only 9 days into induction so I am by no means an expert!! But I saw you post on another thread about whether Atkins bars are ok on induction. I know the "rules" say they are OK but I was eating them the first week and wasn't losing anything. The day after I stopped eating them, I lost 2lbs.

It really seems to vary person to person. Some people do fine with them while others stall. I think maybe it's better to try it out for yourself and see how your body reacts. If you are able to lose with the bars, there's no reason not to eat them.

Good luck! =)

I got the idea for putting avocado into chicken salad from a Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives episode. I just put the cubed avocado in with the chicken and a dollop of mayo and squish away. Some of it stays cubed but it also gets incorporated into the mayo, SO good! I roll it into romaine leaves for a wrap or scoop it up with pork rinds. Either way is awesome.

Thanks for this advice. I had a bar in my desk at work and was hungry so I ate it, but I think I will plan ahead and bring more food from now on so I don't have to rely on bars. I wonder what the Atkins site says about these bars and how they are justifiable for induction.

The Atkins literature I have says that they have tested the Atkins products and their studies show little to no glycemic index increase.

I'm not sure why different people react differently to them. I've heard that about diet soda and artificial sweetners in general.

I seem to do OK with a very small amount of splenda but if I get too many low carb sugar free products in a day, I won't lose and might actually gain. Not to mention the effect some of those sugar substitutes have on my digestive system :s

Hi again,

So lunch was tuna salad on a salad and a bottle of water.

I have had bars and shakes and had no problems losing with them - I used to have one each a day. But it is a YMMV situation (your milage may vary). I usually justify to myself that if I have to choose between a snickers or an atkins bar...

If you read the older books - they don't even mention the bars or shakes. The newer books do (but then look at the "author" or sponsor of those books).

I also found that I would not always see the immediate loss that others would in the very beginning that it takes my body the full two weeks to accept the change and then start shedding the pounds. So give yourselves some time to get used to things before you start changing too much (imho). I think you are all doing great! Just watch out for the "hidden" carbs - like eggs actually have .6c or gum which is usually a carb or two, milk for coffee, sweetners (that say 0 but are actually like .4c) etc.

so far today -

B - Bariatric protein shake (3c) and decaf sf suisse mocha (2c)
L - Pork Roast (1c) and the leftover bacon green beans (6c)
S - Atkins Bar (3c)
also 1/2 single serving packet of crystal light (.5c)

Not sure why, I was REALLY craving sweets today. First time since starting induction I have had a sweet craving. Maybe it was the added veggie carbs? Or the protein shake?
Or maybe I was emotionally eating? I did gain 10lbs after starting this job (less than 3 months ago!) that I hate and today was my first day back in 4 days. It was REALLY hard to come back here today.

It will be interesting to see how that plays out on the scale tomorrow. I hope not too much damage.

D - still have crack slaw planned (3c)

If I eat dinner, I should end the day with 18.5c, which is HIGH for me! yikes!

Damage was up 2lbs today. Not sure if it was from the Atkins bar or the Crack Slaw though because my fingers are swollen like sausages from the soy sauce! It was good but I think too much sodium for me. That Atkins bar sure didn't help but it was better than a Milkyway bar?

Today is another day.

B - decaf coffee with half & half and sprinkled cinnamon (1.3c)
L - pork roast w sliced hard cheddar (2c)
S - I had planned to try a new low carb yogurt I found at the store but I'm scared! (4c)
D - I have no clue!

did NOT have the yogurt. Too chicken after 2lb gain. Instead had sf limeaid (1c) it was not yummy. 6c so far today.

D - grilled chicken breast with skin, avocado and maybe melted cheese? (3-4c)

it rained yesterday so I didnt go for my walk. I got winded fast on the stairs, so not very active. Today it's sunny out, going for a long brisk walk!

B - 3 scrambled eggs with 2 sausage patties (woke up starving! Lol.)
S - 2 slices of deli roast beef
L - 1 pork rib cooked with a tsp of low carb Alfredo sauce
D - 2 more pork ribs

No veggies today, didn't feel so hot and I'm basically just going to let myself eat what I need to to get through these first few days. Not my best day, nutritionally, but I stayed LC.

Good morning all -
Well the scale is not "friendly" this week. TOM is the big issue I think, with some extra sf candies and etc thrown in for extra help. HA. So no more scale until TOM is over for me. I need to try to add in more water but I hate having to run to the ladies' room so much while I am at work. I'm a teacher so it is not always conveinent to run out.

Thursday:
B: Yogurt and water, coffee 9c
L: Cobb salad, water 5c

Haven't got the rest of the day figured out yet.
