Constipation and Regularity???

I know this has been asked a million times but>>>>>>............

Hello all, looking for your various cures or supplement to use for basically occasional constipation and to just be plain regular daily? I currently just finished a basic 30 day detox thing from the health store and have been stacking psyllium husk on top of that. Today is the last day of the detox pills. Even with both of these supplements I still would only have a BM maybe once every other day and sometimes would go 3 days with no BM. So basically two questions.

1. Is there something I can take for a quick BM for when I feel really constipated???

2. Is there a daily supplement other than Pysllium husk I can take that will let me have a daily BM???

Thanks in advance for your time.

I'm pretty confident that anything that would give you a quick BM would be VERY UNHEALTHY. please don't pursue that goal. when you start fooling around like that, your body reacts by going into even worse waves of constipation then diarrhea. try to even it out, not quick fix it.

I have to eat flax, in the form of muffins, for breakfast every day to keep regular, myself. it's about 6 Tablespoons a day, and I drink a whole big pot of tea along with them. liquid at the same time as the flax is really important.

I think your pysllium husks are probably similar to that. are you taking enough and are you taking enough liquid at the same time?

Kemp, I was having the exact same problem! About a month ago I started taking 500 mg (2 pills) of Nature's Way Magnesium Complex. I take it with dinner (usually at 5:30 pm) and it ensures daily activity (first thing in the morning) EVERY day! For me, it is incredibly effective and no other noticeable side effects or cramping like I had with other remedies. Good luck!

For a quick BM you could take a Senakot they worked for me a while back after I had surgery.

For me I find if I keep my fats up I go every morning, but if I overdo the eggs I have a bit of trouble xxx

Thanks I will go get some today. The pysillum husk do not work that well and I am wanting a daily movement. 1 carb is a small price to pay for a daily BM.

All things I've seen and read. I've never had much of an issue with not going, usually the other way around. :P Only time I ever had an issue was duing hCG, and still wasn't much of an issue, but the tea works fast and easy.

Flax muffins/pancakes/bread
Smooth Move tea (works crazy good overnight)
A good probiotic
Magnesium supplements
Increasing veggies
Psyllium husks
High fat diet
Increasing water intake

I'm sure there's more things, but those are the most common I've seen. Also, if you're taking a multivitamin, make sure it's iron free. That can make symptoms worse.

I currently drink a ton of water, well over a gallon a day if not 2. I take the husk religiously and it has been since Friday night since my last movement. I am about to just drink some magnesium citrate solution. How does that stuff work?

The only one I have any experience with noticeable results is the tea, drink one cup before bed, when you get up in the morning, it works like a charm every time. Not an every thing you should use, but once a week it's ok.

I hope it works, I am not a tea guy, but seeing as I only drink water while on plan, it tasted great with a packet of truvia. So 1 carb and 2 calories was well worth drinking that when needed.

I'm sure it will work, I've always heard positive results from everyone who's tried it.

I have learned to love tea... but, that tea, I find is naturally very sweet, and I don't like it... it's worth outcome though! I've taken much worse medicines in my time.

I buy loose leaf oolong, roasted yerba mate, and market spice rooibos. I even have come to like different green teas and various chais. I've been drinking coffee for... god 20 years, and usually black, so that's a big change for me!

I , too, was going to suggest Smoove Move Tea or magnesium tablets. They both work well for me. I take one or the other after dinner when I need some "assistance".

My daughter has IBS/constipation. Her GI doc has her on one scoop of miralax twice per day. It keeps things moving along nicely.

There is an ingredient in the Smooth Move tea that is not for daily consumption, but I don't remember what it is, just remember reading it. I would only use as needed.

And, I'm glad it worked!!

Yep! No topic is sacred when it comes to how our diet is affecting our bodies.

Magnesium works like a charm for me, so much so that if I take it in the morning I have to be sure not to leave the house until it "hits." Try not to stress out too much if you aren't having a daily BM. you are probably eating less volume that is much more dense so naturally there is going to be less coming out.

Just to add here: I made flax bread from this recipe Flax Bread Recipe - Low-Carb Focaccia-Style Flax Bread
(I posted about it in another thread too) and it is totally working for me. I feel alot better and it is only 0.7g carb per slice with 6g fibre. It is working better for me that psyllium husks. I also have a multivitamin with Mg in it. Hope this helps. (PS- recipe is super easy and only takes minutes to prepare with 20 mins in the oven)

I am adding my +1 for Magnesium! I take 'Calm' brand before bed, I get it at GNC. It makes you sleepy, does not distend and bloat like most fibers and such will. Love it. Start with a teaspoon and work your way up.

no. you need to find magnesium citrate.

i take four 225 mg a day. really not too expensive. i get them from swanson vitamins. they don't work like magic for me because i also take 2 iron tablets a day for anemia.

i also daily take 2 T ground flax in a glass of water, besides fiber in veggies.

I actually bought a product from TVS. I do not want to get in trouble for listing a name. But it is called h2o and has magnesium and works great.
