crack slaw thou art my friend
So last night I got adventurous, and decided to track down and make this "crack slaw" i hear people talking about. Used Genaw's recipe for hamburger and cabbage stir fry with ground beef, cabbage, mushrooms, soy sauce and sesame oil..
Where has this been before? Wow. I did not expect it to be quite as tasty, but the sesame oil packs a nice flavor into it. Now I see why its called "crack" lol. |

Sounds yum! I love sesame oil, are we allowed to have soy sauce? Or just tamari? I actually wasn't using it at all and miss it. Thanks for this recipe idea!

there is about 2 tbs in the total recipe, I think its listed as having 4.5 grams of carbs (net) per serving. HAMBURGER CABBAGE STIR-FRY - Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

You know, I've been making a version of this for years and years, just came up with it one day, and it was several years before I realized that the "crack slaw" that people talked about here was the same thing I'd been cooking since long before I started Atkins.
![]() Yes, soy sauce is allowed on induction. |

i've always been confused about crack slaw. I mean, it's sliced cabbage, sauteed, and with hamburger meat, or whatever you have on hand? throw in some red peppers maybe, for color? But are people enamored of it because they've never had fried or sauteed cabbage before? please tell me!

I don't know either. It's just a good dish, but it's amazingly amazing to me.

It's good, it's not an omg zomg best thing ever. I grew up on cabbage, sautéed, steamed, raw, boiled with salt pork, so I like cabbage. For me it was an easy I make dish I could take with me to work, had meat and veggies combined, and was tasty

I might give this a go, sounds interesting and I'm sucked in by the notion that I can casually tell people I had crack slaw for supper
I do love fried cabbage though, especially with crispy bacon and a little bit of onion. Also love kale chips. Nom nom nom |

mmmm - i'm part hungarian, part german and part irish, so a love of cabbage is in my genes! I've got one at home - fried cabbage with bacon sounds terrific-- and my hungarian grandmother used to make something that was fried cabbage but also a little sweet? i'll have to look that up....then there's stuffed cabbage and cabbage soup....

I'm not a fan of stuffed cabbage, but cabbage is one of my staple veggies. I love it!

I wanted to try it last night and got excited, then realised too late that I used up all my frozen minced beef on a shepherd's pie. Bah!

I have no idea what makes it so awesome, but I really love crack slaw! I suggest using ground pork (if you can find it) or dice up some shrimp instead of the beef. It tastes like the inside of an egg roll, nom!

Yeah, I think that pork somehow pairs with cabbage better . . . but I am sure I'd snarf down any of these versions . Reminds me of the easiest of all go-to's, sauer kraut. I can't' do it very often but it is great for a change of pace. There's a good rueben casserole recipe floating around her. Ok .. my mind is wandering a bit . . .
