Atkins Question
I have been doing Atkins now for 3 full weeks, I am going into my 4th. I lost 11 pounds the first 2, none the 3rd. The only thing I did different was I started eating the Atkins bars, which have sugar alcohols in them, and a few pieces of sugar free candy with sugar alcohol in it, but my net carbs are under 20. I don't know why I didn't lose any weight? Has anyone else had this problem on Atkins?

In some people the SA in the bars will stall you. Most say it is because the SA acts just like sugar to your body. I can drink the shakes and lose well with them. The bars I have to go easy on. They stall me. Good Luck. HTH.

Leave those bars alone until maintenance! The bars and shakes make a lot of people stall and gain weight.

Personally, the bars don't stall me. But those sugar-free candies, on the other hand, put the brakes on any momentum I have. I had to give them up because I could never lose weight if I had had one of those candies in the past few days.

Around Week 3 your weight-loss naturally slows a bit, because you're switching from losing the water stored as glycogen in your cells -- which is FAST loss -- to the slower but more permanent process of actually burning up your body-fat.
ADD to that tinkering with your plan by adding in "sweets" -- Atkins bars are notorious for causing stalls, as are SF candies -- and it's little wonder you experienced problems. ![]() In general, avoid processed foods (ie: BARS!), and try to make your own. You'll have better control of the ingredients, and there won't be odd things to throw you off. Remember -- Dr. Atkins' primary message in his early books was "Eat organic whole foods. Do not eat processed foods." That still holds true, despite the highly profitable industry that's grown up around LC and the Atkins name.

Patients like the others have said. Don't panic yet. I have had several weeks on not losing anything followed by weeks for big drops. But do continue to figure out things that my cause YOU to not loose. Everyone is different and to be successful you need to pay attention and avoid foods that cause you problems. Atkins bars and shakes cause me to have blood sugar issues and be really hungry so I avoid them. Eat real food and leave the packaged stuff behind.
