Water Intake
Hi everyone. I've been reading through the boards and came across comments about water intake. I know that there are different opinions on whether say 64 oz. is water only or whatever you drinks counts toward those ounces. I'm just wondering what everyone things about that. Thanks! :)

I am a BIG water fan. Plain water.I have to drink at least 100 ounces per day to lose any weight. I started this when I had a stall a few years back. I read that a woman was drinking half her current weight in ounces and it was helping her to lose faster.I tried it and it works for me. I do drink tea and a diet coke now and then. They are a plus for me. HTH.

Thank you.
Thank you for your reply. I am going to try the 64 oz. first and see if I can increase. I appreciate it!

Your daily water intake should be about 15 mL per lb of body weight (per my nursing school textbook...I found this yesterday :)) Then you divide that number by 30 to get your ounces. So, if you weigh 197, you need about 99 oz of water a day. Now, if you arent drinking barely any to start with, 64oz is a great start, but I would work my way up to 100 oz or even more! I drink around 150 oz of water a day, give or take.

people have all these fancy rules about water, and almost none of them have any research behind them. that "8 glasses a day" thing turned out to be an old wive's tale, remember? no studies looking at whether it was beneficial, none at all.
liquid is liquid. |
Liquid is liquid as long as it doesn't include diuretics. Caffeine is a diuretic, so I wouldn't count coffee or caffeinated teas/sodas. I drink around 120oz of water or sugar-free lemonade. For every 32oz, I allow myself a Diet Pepsi (my weakness :)). The desire to have the Diet Pepsi keeps me drinking the water.

I sure loose quicker when I drink water. 128 oz a day for me.

I hate water. I drink maybe 8 ounces of plain water a week.
Iced tea and coffee are my liquids of choice. |
Water is essential for weight loss. I hate drinking water, but found a way to make it easier. I bought a 24 ounce insulated cup with a straw. Fill it with ice water and a small lemon slice. Easy and portable! I know it sucks, but it really makes a difference.

Dang! That means I should be drinking 120 oz a day-I already seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom:D

Whew! I need 129 oz/daily and I am slacking badly:( I loooove water though so it shouldn't be a problem for me!

It just boggles me that the 8 glasses a day myth and others is still prevalent.
Your fluid needs vary with activity, habitat/temperature/humidity, and with intake of things that make the body need water to regulate itself, such as protein and salt. Crystal lite counts as water. Coffee and tea count as water, although some people say to count 2/3 of the volume and consider 1/3 of the volume lost to the diuretic effect of the caffeine. Count broth as water. Count soft drinks as water. Count the water found in lettuce and other vegetables with a high water content, or any water content from any food at all. |
I found that if I refrigerate 2-2 qt pitchers in the frig I drink it more easily and easier to keep track of the amount. Somehow being extra cold and not tap makes a difference!

This is def. the only thing keeping me drinking as I hate water too. Only I add Crystal Lite's Peach Bullini drops....soooooo good! (I like the new MIO drops too, grape is great!) |
