I read it all.

I'm not trying to go against Mr. Atkins here. I just don't think a few free meals/month is going to hurt in the grand scheme, you know?

say you've(not YOU Cosmic but anyone) been going at this for awhile, you've done really well, you've lost 20lbs and you go to a baseball game. You want a hot dog and fries. You wouldn't? Would that screw the whole diet up? No. Because you'll be right back on plan the next day. And the hot dog was really good and you don't feel guilty.

i know food can be viewed as reward and there is a major social component. And I guess it depends on the person psychology.

Oh, I know, and I'm not trying to be a pious teacher here. Of course everyone will fall off the wagon eventually. I will, you will, and I'm sure Dr. Atkins did, many times. You made a key point with the guilt. Guilt is one of the most destructive behaviors out there and it foments weakness. As long as you know what you are going to do and have a plan to continue the course, you should be fine.

You know, reading over your posts, I just realized I am actually feeling weirdly grateful for developing sudden onset reactive hypoglycemia in the couple of months before I found Atkins. I can legitimately say that I am scared of carbs now because of what they did to my blood sugars. I was a physical wreck from bread, pastas, even alcohol. I would get the shakes and dizzy and almost pass out hourly because my blood sugar would get so low from the insulin rollercoaster. I thought I was going to die. Atkins healed it all. I can now go five to six hours without eating a thing.

Now I look at pasta, bread, ice cream, all my old favorites, and I actually get scared of them. That's a miracle for this old carb addict. Cheating is actually no longer an option for me.

WELCOME to the fellow newbies! I really am glad I started this thread now, because I feel like others were full of questions like me.

Today was a pretty good day, though my calories felt a little high. I have lost about 1.8 lbs in two days which is good.

B- Flax muffin with cream cheese and butter
L- low carb Linda's pancakes with sf syrup
S- chicken breast
D-9 oz ribeye, 1/2 cup zucchini

If we call it 'cheating,' then it has a bad connection to that word. I prefer to call cheats, TReats.

I don't consider having a treat as falling off the wagon. Food is food and it's GOOD!
I think it's how we view food that has us all screwed up. Not us, but everyone; America!!

We feel entitled to have all that good yummy sugary junk that is usually found at every corner. It's not about will power, it's about having strategies.

no weigh in for me but I did take measurements, and I lost an inch around my belly.

I'll be away from my home most of this week, leaving tomorrow. It it will be a little challenging to stay on plan but not impossible!

Good Morning, All!

Sails, your menu looks good. Also, that quiche sounded great. Do you have a recipe for it?

Big Stevie-You sound really focused and prepared. Have a great week.

Colibri-That is pretty cool being a historian focused on culture and food, but I could see how it would be challenging to not eat tortillas and such as "research".

Catrapoin-If the one soda works for you, then that's what matters. I think everybody's body reacts differently and we are all unique. I don't think there is a one size fits all when it comes to weight loss. Just what works for you.

Betty, Congrats on the inch loss!

How about "Intentional Micro Non-Compliance" as a euphemism?

I'm not going far, just hopping over to DE to spend a couple days at the beach with my kiddos.
Then we're coming back and going up to PA for the weekend going Hershey's Park.

One week done!!! Hooray!!! I am feeling better now. Just trying to get acclimated to my new lifestyle. In the first week I had to go out to eat twice. I was able to stay on track. I weighed myself on my cheap home scale and it says I am down 8 pounds the first week. I feel like I am down more, my clothes are fitting differently already. I won't get back on the scale for another couple of weeks. I don't want it to be a distraction.

I got really hungry yesterday about 1 pm. Then I realized I hadn't eaten any carbs yet that day. I don't want to make that mistake again. Gonna make sure I put a few in breakfast or a mid morning snack.

It is working as I knew it would.

NEW TODAY!

Hi! Today is my first day on Atkins and I guess it would be called induction. I wanted to know if I should start out as low carb and work down to no carb? Does anyone have any advice for me?! Any and all is appreciated, I feel like I have a million questions! I am however optimistic that this may be what I need after reading some of these threads!

Welcome aboard. You should get the Dr. Atkins Book New Diet Revolution. It is a valuable resource and will teach you a lot. During induction you should be at 20 Grams of carbs a day most of which should come from salad and vegetables.

Ugh. I really am shocked that I haven't lost more weight. I finally weighed myself after two weeks, and I have never really gotten out of the gate with induction. I am so envious of those of you who are losing 5,10, 15 pounds on induction.
July 28 238.8
July 29 237
July 30 237.2

I really need to know exactly what people are eating who are doing it right. Like how many calories, etc.

I started the month of July around this weight. It's great that I'm not gaining, but come on.

Today I am recreating the menu from two days ago where I lost 1.8 lbs.

It works.

I have read the entire book. I have been posting here regularly. I have been drinking tons of water. I don't eat more than 15 carbs. I have cut cheese out and have just a little cream cheese.

Guidance appreciated.

Hi Nezzie...The quiche was really good, and I made a HUGE pan, but it really lasted the week and kept me from having to always think about what I was going to eat.....As for the recipe, it is one of Linda's LC menus. She has lots of induction meals that she posted.

Hi, and welcome! If you are "doing Atkins" or another plan, please read the book for whatever plan you choose. No carb is not recommended in Atkins. We are supposed to balance healthy, low-carb veggies with protein and fat. There are specific percentages of fat/protein/carbs noted in the Atkins books. People tend to test the limits of how compliant they need to be vs. bending the rules and still lose weight. Reading the food porn threads here has helped me to have some variety in foods and still stay on induction. I am struggling with weekends and unplanned meals.... Best wishes in your journey.

We'll get to the bottom of this. Don't be discouraged and get a load of what I'm about to write.

I have never succeeded on Atkins. This is my third attempt, but I'm going to succeed this time. I know where I fell short the other two times and am determined to not fail. Things are different now in that I am able to exercise and I have jettisoned my statins for the duration of the weight loss period.

Thanks, Cosmicstar. So much. Last night I went and read your old thread where you were trying to lose and it wasn't working and you got really frustrated. I so know where you were at emotionally then. Knowing what you've been through, your support means a lot.

I am going to try to up the fat and lower the calories.

What kind of exercise do you do?

Hi cstyles, I am wondering if premaking something that will last awhile might help with unplanned meals? Like one of Lowcarb Linda's casseroles, quiches, etc.
Also, having pre-made deviled eggs has saved my b*** a couple of times when there were no protein meals/snacks to be found.

Thanks, Sails. I think Lowcarb Linda has the best recipes in the world, so I'll try it. I swear that woman has made low carb recipes into an art form. So far I have tried her pork fried "rice", her chile relleno casserole, her taco salad, her "pancakes", and loved all of them.

I might be eating more simply for awhile, just to see if the scale moves, but knowing I have her recipes lets me know I can do Atkins long term.

I was working out 3 times a week with a Personal Trainer. I've kicked it up to 5 days now that I am doing the WOE. Initially, the work was rehabbing my 2 new knees and working on flexibility, balance and range of motion. I'm now working about an hour per session with weights and weight machines + 20 minutes of hard cardio on the bike. Today I did 75 pushups and a year ago I could barely do one. If I fail this time, I don't know what else to do.

The reason I asked about prescription drugs is that statins make it impossible for some people to lose weight. So do anti-depressants, asthma drugs like Singulair and so does sleep apnea.

There are many minefields on this journey. For some it comes easily, for some it does not. I've never had a weight problem until I was put on several prescription drugs. It can be a vicious cycle with blood pressure, cholesterol and weight. Nothing is easy.

I am glad you rehabbed your knees enough to work out that much and you were able to get off of some of the meds.

I did have a recent diagnosis of reactive hypoglycemia and adrenal fatigue. My naturopath said I had to heal my adrenals and cortisol in order to get my pituitary and other hormonal glands to work right, so that could be affecting it.

I am curious about Atkins chapter on the fat fast. I am wondering if anyone has tried it for the "extremely metabolically resistant".

...or it could be that I just need to lower my calories.

I'll go back to the drawing board.

Today:
b- 1 flax muffin with 1/2 tbsp cream cheese (flax muffin is flax, egg, oil)
L- one chicken breast with skin
S- 1 flax muffin w/cream cheese
D- 7 oz ribeye with creamed spinach(with bacon bits)

I think tomorrow, I am going to nix the cream cheese. If anyone has any ideas on how to stay regular without the flax, let me know as it has been a good friend to me LOL.
