Hello!

Hi everybody,

I would like to join in. After my first week on induction, I'm down 7.2 pounds. It helps that it was the TOM when i started, hence the inflated weight loss! My goal for February is to lose 15 pounds...taking me to 181.

Thanks for the forum!

Welcome DC American. Wish you the best of luck on your journey to 140. Hope it goes smooth for you. This plan works if you stick with it. Just eat until you feel satisfied. Make sure you drink lots of water, and only eat foods on the Induction list. People lose weight at different paces. I hope you are a quick looser and get those 15 gone in February.

Okay - I'm joining in. I'm on day 12 of induction, down about six pounds total. My highest weight ever was 255, got down to 170 about three years ago, then had my second and third child two years in a row! So my youngest is five and a half months old now and it's time to get back on it. My current weight is 209. Glad to be back after a long "vacation!"

I had to go off plan a week ago tho, and that really messed up my progress. I gained 4 pounds back, and just managed to get rid of them, and my ketostix still say that I'm on the lowest level of ketosis, even though it was showing full-blown ketosis during the first two weeks. I'm a little bummed out by that, but at least now I know how long it takes for my body to recover after a pizza-induced bender...

I've been drinking a spiked-up version of the Atkins shakes quite regularly, adding Splenda and cocoa and some double cream, and was wondering what everyone thinks of it - does it stall weight loss? Also, I've been reading a lot about low-carb treats, like those muffin-in-a-minute things - are those allowed? I'd be over the moon if I could get my hands on one of 'em, but I don't want to stall my weight loss.

Great forum, tho, glad I found you guys.

Welcome! Thanks for joining us! The motivation on this forum -- seeing other people's fantastic progress -- really helps keep my mind in the right place with regard to the reasons that I choose to stay on plan when life gets difficult.

You're back on track now, so keep going! Don't let pizza bring you down! It's hard to say "no" -- believe me, I know how hard it is. But for me, the longer I've been on-plan, the *easier* it's gotten to refuse to give in to temptation. It's still not *easy* to push the cheese fries away when people push them in front of me on a Saturday night. But off-plan food doesn't seem worth the cost now that I've put in MONTHS of hard work to get where I am. I want my hard work to be worth something -- and I honestly feel that my months of hard work are worth a whole lot more than a few minutes of enjoying something tasty.

Your starting weight is a little bit less than my starting weight. And even though I haven't lost as *quickly* as a lot of other people on this forum, I've been on Atkins for less than 9 months and I'm currently less than 10 pounds away from your goal weight. So if you stick with it -- especially since your induction loss is WAY MORE than my initial losses -- you will reach your goal!

I really need to focus and plan ahead to stay on plan the next two weeks. I'm part of the production team for a music festival and we will be doing 12-16 hour days and although we get fed and the food is always delicious, it's certainly not Induction-friendly! Eek! I'll pack some food (I'm staying in some dorms with a kitchen, yay!) but I know it's going to be hard not to..."intentionally not comply with the induction rules" ("cheating" is such a harsh word, haha!)
Sometimes it's difficult to do things for yourself -- but you're worth it! Sticking to your weightloss plan is a way of being kind to yourself, and you deserve that kindness! I wish it was easier to get low-carb food in places where you're *stuck* with what's being provided to you -- I know that a lot of people praise Atkins because there's always meat and cheese on menus but restaurants and catering companies put so many additives in basic food items that I feel like I can't trust food that I didn't prepare for myself. I don't envy your situation, especially at this early point in your diet, but I'm sure you'll make good choices! You just have to remember to be kind to yourself.

I love Hawaii! One of my best friends is originally from Hawaii, and I was in her wedding in Hawaii a few years ago. We landed in Oahu, went to Maui and Kauai and the big island of Hawaii. Fabulous! We were there for a little over a month and we had an amazing, fun time every single day.

For next month's progress update, at the end of February, I'm going to use a picture of myself on a beach in Maui as my "before" picture. I remembered those Hawaii vacation photos when I pulled out my swimsuit a few weeks ago, planning for my June vacation. My Hawaii swimsuit was too tight for me when I started the diet -- because I wasn't at my heaviest weight when I went to Hawaii -- so I wanted to see if the swimsuit would fit now that I've lost some weight. To my surprise, it's actually too large now. I think that old swimsuit is a good symbol of how much can be accomplished just by having a plan and sticking to it long enough.

Thanks!

As of this morning, I am down TEN pounds since starting on 1/28! That's including a cheat meal that upped my weight by four pounds the next day (hardly worth it...but at the same time thoroughly enjoyed it...). I'm pretty happy with that loss for two weeks time. I know it will slow down, but I'll ride the fast train as long as I can!

For dinner last night we went to Red Robin and I ordered this huge Avocado Cobb salad with ranch dressing. It was soooo delicious and I sat there feeling amazing that I could enjoy such a feast while "dieting!" (and I know...it should be called a "way of life" not a "diet," but you guys get my drift!)

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. Excited to be here. I have about 25 pounds to lose, but wasn't having fun on the low calorie diet (nor any success). I am really liking this so far! I LOVE the food porn pics and recipes. It's amazing that people can eat some of that stuff and still lose weight! I started on Monday at 169 and today I'm at 166.5. I can totally do this.

I think I'm doing pretty good with my menus so far. This is todays... if you see anything that looks concerning, please let me know.

Breakfast - cup of hot peppermint tea (no caffeine) with 2 drops of sweetzfree (no carbs); 2 hard boiled eggs; 3 pieces of bacon

Lunch - small hamburger patty with 1 oz of cheese and 1/4 cup of sauteed mushrooms; 1 1/2 cups of iceberg/romaine lettuce with 1 piece of crumbled bacon, 4 black olives and Ranch dressing

Dinner - 2 baked chicken thighs; cheese crisps (made from 2 oz of cheese); 1 cup of salad mix with Ranch; 1/2 avocado

4-5 bottles of water per day

Thanks! Looking forward to getting to know ya'll!

Kim

Welcome, Kim!

You can definitely do this! I feel like the only *trick* to this diet is sticking with it. And it seems to me like you're already off to a great start -- I'm not an expert, but your menu looks a lot like what I've been eating on Atkins, so it looks great to me.

Welcome Kim, YES you can do this. Just eat the foods on the Induction List and don't worry. Things will take care of themselves.

I recommend that all people starting out get an online tracker to track their protein, fat and carbs. You should be in ratio of 60-65 % fat, 30-35% protein and 5% carbs. Some people track daily and some people, like me, just track from time to time. I agree with Trillex, your menu looks pretty good. Have fun.

Welcome, Tara! You can totally do it! You just have to put your health needs first and not give in to the stuff that's going to hurt your progress.

Went to the gym the first time in over 4 years yesterday. I feel surprisingly good now, so I'll definitely get a membership!

Down to 210, which is awesome! More than 20 lbs down! I might have to readjust my goal weight if I keep going to the gym though - will see.

I have to find some kind of food that I can take to work with me, because not eating for more than 9 hours on work-days is really not good for me. I don't really like salads, I only eat a handful of salad when I've got a huge load of meat in front of me, so that's kind of out. What do you guys normally eat at work?

Food on the go is something everyone on this eating plan needs to sort out for themselves. Meat, cheese, hard boiled eggs, salads, pickles, pork rinds are a few of my favorites. Salami and cheese are always in my refrigerator. They are my default food, I eat them if I don't have anything else. They also travel well.

I boil a dozen eggs every Sunday and eat them throughout the week. They are easy to pack and take with you they come in there own container.

I usually cook a lot of meat on Sunday that I can eat throughout the week quickly. For example, I will make a ham. Then I cut the ham up and throw it in with some eggs for breakfast. I use it in a salad or a sandwich (wrapped in lettuce) for lunch, for dinner I eat a little ham steak fried with some vegetables. I do the same with pot roast, or pork shoulders as well. When I have this stuff on hand, it makes staying at plan very easy. I can prepare a meal in 10 minutes or less.

Avocados are also great to take on the road. I just cut them in half and eat them. I store them in my desk at work along with a some garlic salt and pepper. They are yummy and their high fat content keep me going for a long time.

So cook your favorite meat and take it with you to work and you will be set.

I had a good weekend. Stayed on plan. Got down to 201 yesterday morning, but weighed in at 203 this morning. Not gonna let it phase me since I know I stayed on plan. I'll just drink some extra water and hope I'll have a good loss in the next day or so. I'm so close to ONEderland I can taste it!

I like to mix things up! When I go grocery shopping, I try to choose a different meat for each day and a different vegetable for each meal. And then, on Sundays, I make individual meals for each day of the week and put them into individual containers so that I can just heat them up and eat them whenever I'm hungry.

For example, I have some cod (fish) cooked with spices and sesame oil in a container with shredded cauliflower that I cooked with chives and garlic. I will heat that up for dinner tonight. For lunch tomorrow, I have tilapia (fish) cooked with chopped kale and red peppers. It's in a container in the fridge, so I can just pop it into my bag when I leave.

I cook for the whole week because I, personally, find it easier. When I get home after a long day, I'm just too tired to want to deal with cooking.

I saw on another thread that you feel pressured to give in because you haven't told the people around you about your diet. I don't feel comfortable telling my colleagues that I'm on a diet -- I just don't want people with whom I have a professional relationship being involved in my personal life. But I do have to go out to work-related food gatherings. I don't eat anything off-plan while I'm out with them -- and nobody has noticed! I *felt* like I was obviously doing something weird -- because I've been at all-day events when I didn't eat anything at all, while everybody else was eating pastries -- but people just aren't as observant of other people's behavior as you would think.

So, when your flatmates order pizza, I would bet that you could get away with just eating the pizza toppings -- which are Atkins-friendly. If anybody noticed, you could just tell them that you don't feel like eating the crust, or that you don't like it. At worst, they might just feel like you're going through some kind of strange phase. And you can keep your private business about dieting to yourself.

Just my thoughts! For what they're worth...

This is very important!!! None of us are really that special. People are busy and tend not to focus on others. We always worry we are going to be the center of attention because we have unusual eating habits. Well the truth is, not to many people care, so stay on plan and don't put the spotlight on yourself and all will go well. You certainly could draw attention to yourself, but you don't need to. Worry about something else. Bring your own food and don't let others tell you what to eat.

I dream of onederland. I will be at goal when I see it. I am not sure if I will make it or not, a few folks are saying I am thin enough right now, but I don't agree. Neither does the BMI charts, LOL! so I go on. Hopefully I can get there in another 4 months although it may take longer. I haven't been losing much lately, I think my body is taking a rest.

You WILL get to goal, Big Stevie! As you get closer, you might decide that your goal should be a few pounds more than you originally thought. But whatever *goal* turns out to be for you, you will get there -- and I'll be right behind you! We've worked too hard and have been too determined to fall anywhere short of the goal line.

I will get to my goal, but it is just a matter of what the goal will be. Yeah I agree, we have come to far not to make it. I don't know if you will be behind me though -You are doing great Trillex.

Hi Guys...

WOW!

I am so happy to see this thread alive and well so many months after I started it! Some of the original people are still here. So cool and so happy for your weight losses!

I wasn't in the best place when I left, but I am feeling so much more committed to Atkins these days. I started to up my carbs a little and my hypoglycemia came back, so I am back on induction because that seems to be the place where my body does the best with blood sugar.

I have lost some weight, but I don't weigh myself as I became an emotional roller coaster, but I am happy to be back here and am excited to share this thread and be back here, if you'll have me!

Xo,
Neezie
