Alcohol on induction?

First off, I know, I know: "You shouldn't have any alcohol on induction, your body uses the alcohol first before the fat, so you're delaying things!"

Truth is, I'm going out this weekend and I'm going to drink, so just wondering what you low-carbers do when you go out.

I know there's Michelob Ultra: something like 2.7 carbs per beer.

Then I heard Vodka has zero carbs, but have never seen that listed anywhere reputable besides forums where people have said that before. So, a vodka and diet might be what I'm thinking.

Anything else out there you guys have that's low in carbs/carb free?? Also, I heard that beer affects you more if you low carb, any truth to that?

From what i've found Rum, vodka, and whiskey have 0 carbs. It's the mixers you need to watch out for. I don't drink so I have no experience with it lol

True. So Vodka and Diet Coke might be a good solution I guess.

I wonder if the flavored vodka has any carbs in it?

Unfortunately, bars/restaurants don't stock diet tonic I wish that they would ! You could order rum and diet coke..... scotch and water, or like you said- Mich Ultra or other lower carb beer.

cheers !

..... as far as the flavored vodkas, check the website and verify... I read somewhere on here the other day that Absolut flavored vodkas are sugar free, but I didn't check this myself. Vanilla absolute and diet coke might be good- if that is true.....

Never had tonic before (maybe once when I was a kid, but that could have been seltzer water??), and had no idea there were carbs in it.

Thanks! Before/AFters:

Before and After

Vodka and crystal light are great because there are sooo many flavors available, you'll never get bored!

Took me a couple of years total to lose the weight, but didn't really commit fully until a year ago....

Also something to keep in mind. You tend to get drunk FASTER while you're in ketosis.

But yeah you can basically have most types of liquor (vodka, rum, whiskey, scotch). I don't drink too often, but I found I like Jamison.

Vodka with soda water and a twist of lime.
However - I won't see a loss on the scale the next day.

I concur with Medic---

One drink and I'm tipsy when in ketosis....you must drink much more slowly and really wait in between drinks to see how you're affected.

Cake vodka DOES have carbs (not sure about the other flavors, but I believe this one is like five per serving), so be careful.

I usually stick with Pinot Noir (lowest carb red wine). I find that it's an easier trade-off than the artificial sweeteners in diet soda.

If I'm drinking socially and just want to nurse something for the night, I'd probably get something on the rocks: Vodka or whiskey.

OK, here's the skinny on booze and carbs.

Beer -- even "lite" beer -- has lots.
Wine has less.
Distilled spirits have none.
FLAVORED spirits of any kind DO have them.

The mixers Seltzer and soda (ie: club soda) have none. All other mixers (unless "diet") do.

When I was young, my mother taught me to drink hard liquor straight. Her logic was that (especially as a young woman), if you order, say, a whisky straight, no one is going to pressure you with, "Oh, you've got to have another drink". They're just gonna be "impressed". (She was right. I've had BARTENDERS say, 'I gotta see this' after I ordered a straight whiskey. I drink either Irish, or good quality single-malt. ONCE I had a bartender swear I wouldn't be able to drink it after pouring me WATERED whiskey from the bottle!) Also, by avoiding all the sugars in the mixers (eg: daquaris, which were THE drink back then), you avoid hangover hell. (Sugars, as we all know, make a hangover worse. I'll bet all of us HERE can figure out why!)

Eat high fat before (Yeah, like I need to tell YOU that!), drink lots of water, and expect "bad" results on the scale the next day. Just hydrate your way through it, and get back to plan.

You know the drill.

Word.

You're right, no need to tell me about fats! lol But why?

And if there are no carbs, why do I have to worry about the scale not moving? I won't be drinking much of it. We're talking about a total of 5-7 shots worth of Vodka. Which is next to nothing in regards to volume.

yeah, liquor with totally carbless mixers is better than the beer. but it's better yet to avoid it all.

just decide what you will have and limit it to ONE. that is more important than which you choose.

They lead to cravings for me. I believe they cause the same reaction in the brain/body that sugar does. Some people are more sensitive to them, and I think I'm on of them. If I tracked my blood sugar, I'd be willing to bet that it spikes after ingesting AS.

Also, from a chemistry perspective, they're pretty much poison.

Here's a pretty good article I actually just read today about alcohol and training/dietiting.

The truth about alcohol, fat loss and muscle growth | Intermittent fasting diet for fat loss, muscle gain and health

It's not specifically following a LC diet, but there's good info there nonetheless.

Lol -- thanks for the response, but I'm not going to go out to have a goo dtime and have ONE drink.

Sorry, I like to have a good time, and I've lost massive amounts of weight drinking Miller Lite. Just wanted to see what was the lowest carb drink out there.

The scale won't move because

a.) While your body is metabolizing the alcohol, it's not metabolizing it's "Normal" things. You're basically taking out a chunck of time where you're normally burning fat, and devoting it to metabolizing the alcohol INSTEAD. And this continues until ALL the alcohol is gone, not just till your buzz is gone

b.) Alcohol consumption tends to cause your body to retain some water the next day. Water weighs a lot. Retaining just a little can make your scale jump. Drinking lots of WATER while drinking the booze can help mitigate this aspect, but SOME is still likely.

And I just find that consuming fats helps mitigate anything that mucks with your blood sugar. Maybe I'm being superstitious... But I'd rather enjoy the booze-buzz without ALSO throwing my blood sugar completely out of whack.
