Round 5: Help!

I am starting Induction again... this is probably the 5th time I have tried Atkins. 1st time was great! Lost 38 lbs! Each time after that I get discouraged bc its not coming off as fast as the first time! My biggest problem time is late afternoon. I just want to snack, snack, snack. Any suggesstions of things I can eat unlimited that will fill that void I have in the afternoons!! also, I HATE exercising! cant get motivated to do anything! Hoping this works this time!! Want to lose 40 lbs by the end of the summer. Is this unrealistic?? Thanks for your help!

It's so hard to offer advice because what works for me may not do anything for you! But here goes. I have battled afternoon snacking before and what worked for me was to stretch out my breakfast and morning coffee as long as I could. I'd almost be finishing my coffee when it was soon time for lunch. I also will have a "brunch" time snack so I'd eat lunch a bit later (between 1-2pm) so I'd not be hungry until dinner. Also the insane amount of water I drink I started using to my advantage. I would have plain water all morning and then after lunch, i'd start flavoring it, and that seemed to help curb any cravings. There's a million flavoring options out there. But one of my favorites, since I try to go light on fruit, is i'd slice up a variety of fruits and "steep" my water in it all afternoon. My personal fav combos: d'anjou pears/oranges/lemon, plum/lime/raspberry, cucumber/lemon/mint, etc. It's surprising how energizing and refreshing the fruit water combos are!

There are alot of stuff in the LC world that you can eat unlimited, but at the same time, unlimited no carbs does not equal no calories. You have to have a limit. I know this because no only carbs was my problem, but portion size was a killer to me. After on induction for a while, I noticed my portion sizes gotten smaller.

As far as snacks, I love cheese chips..any kind of cheese. I also experiment with spices on top the cheese. I make a fire dust (out of different habaneros that most have never heard of) and make spicy hot cheese chips. Of course those make me drink alot of water, which isn't a bad thing.

Divine: Does the fruit steeping transfer the sugar from the fruit? Or just the taste? Sounds great..never thought of that.

I don't think it does. But I guess I've never cared because it's such a small quantity of fruit in a large water pitcher! The flavor is so mild and delicate so I wouldn't worry about the sugar transferance (if any?)

Personally, I found that I was not eating soon enough. At least early on, I wanted to eat more often -- 4 hours or less between meals or something to eat. After awhile I got longer durations between meals. Even after a year, I have difficulty going more than 6 hours between meals. So try eating meals more often.

Another item that I found was a protein shake. 1 oz of power and 8-14 oz cold water, mix, drink. Quite filling. In addition, the powder can be taken anywhere in a baggie. So very portable snack. Watch which ones you try. Many have lots of sugar.

It gets harder every time you regain and restart. Your body gets resistant to the yo-yoing. It knows what you're up to! Its like: Whoa, here we go again!

I suggest re-reading an atkins book. Its AMAZING how much you can forget. you *think* you're doing it right, but youre fudging a ton of stuff -- im speaking from experience here

Read it with the idea that this is the LAST time you are going to lose these pounds. Losing them slow makes it more likely they will STAY OFF forever! Don't forget the chapters on OWL and maintenance and really focus on how you can maintain forever.
People simply cannot eat the amounts of carbs and processed foods that are "normal" today. Theres a reason why everyone is getting fatter. Accept that eating less carbs and junk food is a way of life that is necessary to maintain, aside from occasional treats.

Learn to love whole foods. Enjoy the journey, enjoy your LIFE!
