new here intro

Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. I found out a couple of weeks ago that my daughter has several conditions that make eating grains any longer really bad for her. So, I've been making her lovely grain free food for the last couple of weeks. It's has been challenging for me because we have been vegetarian for several years. We ate mostly: grains, beans, fruits, and veggies. Now, she can't have the grains or beans. As I have been doing research for her new needs, I've also needed to research how I was going to eat in a new way and continue down the weight loss road I started in January. I didn't want to have to gain back everything I've lost. So, I knew the Atkins diet was about eating meat and veg.... and not any grains. I figured I could make this work for both of us! She is very thin and does not need to lose any weight. That was never her issue. I, on the other hand, have struggled with weight my whole life.

This is actually not my first stint with Atkins. I used it back in the 90's and lost 30 lbs. I loved it and thought I would do it forever. My family convinced me that I was going to kill myself by eating this way. Every time I would visit them (even though I was getting thin and they were still morbidly obese), I would get the lecture on how much harm I was doing to myself. So, I finally caved and gained all the weight back. uggh. I've been trying to eat vegetarian, real food, mostly vegan for quite a while now. Even though I have lost some weight, it has been incredibly hard and I really can't eat that way without grains and beans!

So, I am starting today on induction. I'm using the '72 book. It seems to use more REAL foods. I like food with ingredients I can pronounce. Here are my opening stats and what I ate so far today:

Beginning weight: 157
Goal weight: 130
Height: 5'5"

I wish more people put their height on there. I'm always wondering if that 200 lb person is 5'3 or 6'2. It's a big difference! Anyway, back to my info.

Breakfast: tuna salad wrapped in a lettuce leaf
Lunch: bacon and eggs
Dinner: Stir fry

I am new here as well, although I've kinda "stalked" numerous threads I've linked to through Google searches! LOL This is also my 2nd time with Atkins. The first time I began I was ahem.... WELL over 200 lbs. I lost 40 and then sidetracked for a while and now I'm back on the wagon Good luck to you!
