Ketosis Question

I am now on day 5 of Induction and my Ketosticks are turning to Moderate Ketosis...The middle pink color. Do I need to be in the dark pink or Heavy Ketosis to be in proper Induction? I am losing. I have been weighing every day and each day I drop weight so I think I am properly in induction but I wanted to check to see if I am suppose to be darker or not.

Hey OldsGal!

From what I understand, the level of ketones is not as important as the fact that your body is producing them in the first place. You are in ketosis and that's what counts and obviously you're losing so I wouldn't worry about how deep the color is on the stick! Just keep doing what you're doing, girl! Congrats!

For Ketosis usually darker means less hydration, so as long as your showing any your there. After a few weeks I didn't show any, my understanding is that once your body adapts to burning fat for fuel it will do it more effeciently thus no spilling ketones to the stix.

If your urine is not a pale, straw yellow color, then you're dehydrated and need more water. Most Americans are in a perpetual state of semi-dehydration.

Excessive urination in ketosis

My Ketone stix show the highest level (dark purple) my urine is vertually clear, but I have to urinate SO frequently and SO much. My left kidney felt achy at one point today.

I've been in ketosis before and do not remember this. Any feed back is welcome!

I've lost at least 10lbs since 2/21/12- so I know it's working.

Hey Carly, check out the Wikipedia page for "polyuria". Not to freak you out, but there are some pretty serious causes for this. It could also be something as simple as the diuretic effect of drinking protein shakes

Can ketosis cause frequent urination? Possibly. A Google search for "ketosis frequent urination" comes up with quite a few hits and several message boards and health sites where people doing low carb diets are complaining about frequent urination.

Well, Dr. Atkins said the diet had a strong diuretic affect.

The achy kidney is worrisome though...possibly a touch of infection? It's worth checking with your doctor, but let them know that you are on the diet to make sure they don't get freaked out by ketone presence when testing your urine.

Hey, Carly!

I'm having the same problem and wondered if you ever got an answer to this...?

I never got an answer, but I have been following JUDDD since 3/28/12 and stopped low carb in April of 2012. I still tend to have increased urination when I'm shedding pounds. So my guess is the body is just shedding waste...
