One bourbon, one scotch and one beer...

I have an alcohol question!

I've been on induction since October 1 of last year and have lost 42 pounds. It's rare that I run into a situation where I don't know what to do. However, this time I'm stumped.

I'm not a big drinker so I need some advice. My dh and I are going out with friends tomorrow night dancing at a big party bar. I know I'm going to want to have a drink because it's NO FUN being in a bar dancing when your the only sober person :/

What is a shot of Vodka/Rum/Tequilla going to do to my ketosis? I looked up the carb count and they have no carbs. How can this be? They are made from grain and starches.

Will having a shot of something derail me?

All hard liquors/spirits have no carbs because the carbs were distilled out of them (carbs=sugar and fermented sugar=alcohol). Different people react differently to alcohol (with regards to their weightloss) on a low carb diet. Here's what I see most often.
- having a drink or two lessens one's resistance and leads to high carb eating.
- your body will burn the alcohol calories first, so having a drink or two can stop weight loss temporarily until it is burned up (as in overnight, or maybe the next day). Some people claim it stalls out their loss for days or a week. Others notice no difference.
- it doesn't seem to make people gain on its own.

As for me, personally, very light beer, dry (not sweet) wine, and hard liquor have absolutely no negative impact on my ability to lose weight.

I have found out IF you drink water after you drink,it will help the alcohol to quickly leave the body. So, you get back to fat burning pretty quick.

Thanks everyone for your help with this.

We went out and had a great time. I had six shots of vodka, rum and one shot of schnapps. Six total.

The alcohol didn't affect my ketosis or my weightloss. Infact, I lost a pound which was probably due to the hours of dancing my rear off

Wanted to binge on pizza and other carb rich foods but stopped at Steak n' Shake on the way home (didn't drive) and got a double w/cheese no bun! So yey!

Thanks again!

Glad you had a good time! The weightloss is probably due to dehydration effects of the alcohol. You'll know if it comes back tomorrow.

Huh...would have never thought of that.

I'll report back and let you know, hope I don't backtrack. I was due for a loss so we'll see.

Good to know!
