Kare30bear the ketone strips do come with instructions. You place the stick in urine sample for 15 seconds. The darker the shade the more ketones that are found. I think you are thinking about if your urine is dark that means you are dehydrated

Yesterdays food:

Breakfast: slim jims, coke zero

Lunch: 3 eggs, steak, butter, water

Dinner: Salmon, salad, oil & vinegar, unsweetened tea

Instructions
1

Begin a low-carb, high-protein diet. The Atkins diet is the most common diet to use. You can pick up a copy of the diet book from your local bookstore or go to Weight Loss Program to read about which types of foods to avoid and how many calories you should consume each day.

2

After a day or two of following your new diet, you can test your urine for the presence of ketones. Pull one ketone strip out of its box and either (1) collect a sample of urine in a cup and then dip the strip into the cup, or (2) hold the strip directly in the stream of urine.

3

Wait 10 to 15 seconds and then compare the color of the dampened strip with the color scale provided with the box. The colors will range from light pink/beige to dark purple. The darkest color indicates the highest level of ketones in the urine. If the strip turned a dark purple, you are in a strong state of ketosis, and your body is burning fat, even when at rest.

4

It's up to you how often you want to test your urine. Once every other day is likely to be a good idea. The ketone strips will mainly serve as a guide or tool of inspiration for you. You know your low-carb diet is working if your urine contains ketones.

Actually, even a slight purple color is ketosis and you will be burning fat. If you are at all dehydrated, you will have less water in your urine and the ketones will be more concentrated making the strips a darker purple.

Fluffy- I hope u can figure out your reasoning behind eating the bread and sweet tea. I know it's hard but once you break the emotional cycle and the routine and comfort that carbs can bring you will feel so so so good about yourself and on your way to being comfortable in your own body. Whenever I pass on bread basket now I feel empowered, it's so awesome!

Breakfast: one egg mayo n 2 pieces of bacon

Snack: cream cheese muffin (2)

Lunch: zucchini ribbons sautéed with butter with veggie soy meatballs and parm chz on top

Snack: hungry from lunch! Not too filling. One string chz rolled in flax seed and broiled ( mozzarella stick?) and one tbs cream chz rolled in flax seed ( I was desperate to get in my flax seed lol)

Dinner: steak fajita salad with sour cream, guac and chicken tortilla soup no tortilla!

I'm sorry!! I wasn't trying to make you depressed!!

What I am saying is that any purple at all is good!! The fact that it's dark purple still means that you're in ketosis and burning fat. But it would still be great if it was lighter purple too. Try drinking more water - you will see a lighter purple color, but it is still ketosis working for you. You have good reason to be excited

You are doing great!! Don't let me discourage you. I just don't express myself very well all the time.

Fluffy, I've been low carbing for a full 6 months now. I still slip sometimes, too. It happens. I like your attitude about tomorrow is a better day. Hugs to you.

Hello everyone. I feel better today. I am trying to be less of an emotional eater so when I am upset I tend to eat more. I am proud though that I didn't go an all out binge (I would have in the past) and even though I was a little bad I am back on the horse today!!! I didn't gain any weight though so that is good, but I didn't lose any more either. Still 220. My urine is darker though so I must be dehydrated. I have been drinking more water today, so I hope this helps. I did not retest because the bread probably threw me out of ketosis. I will test later tonight and see. Thanks for the support. I am embarassed that I can be so sensitive

Hi all, didn't post last week but here we go, back on the forum!

Today:
B- 2 egg omlette with flax seeds, chia seeds & a dash of hwc (yum!) with butter, coffee w/hwc
L- 2 pork chops and chinese cabbage, hot sauce, cup of chicken broth
S- coffee and Atkins endulge bar
D- Atkins protein bar

A bit sad about the endulge bar but I had it in the house and was hungry before going to work. Had a mad day with the kids and then started work at 5.30pm...took an Atkins bar to work for dinner as there is no choice there for me unless I eat plain cheese slices and cold boiled eggs, gross.

Yep, tomorrow can and will do better.

I am finding that I really need to kick the coffee habit. I use so many carbs in one coffee. My go-to coffee is a grande Americano (3g) with 3 splenda (3g) and heavy whipping cream (2g). That's 8 carbs for COFFEE!

Yesterday

B: Scrambled eggs x2 with parsley and cream and 3 slices smokey bacon Coffee with cream no sweetener.
L: 2 steaks with a mushroom and cream peppercorn sauce + french beans.
D: Chicken thigh meat fried in spices with green salad
S: Coffee with cream no sweetener, heaped tablespoon PB (3.5g per 100g variety so should be OK).

Well today being a 3pm start (went to sleep at 7am!) I'm only up to lunch haha

B: 2 boiled eggs (most of whites removed YUCK!!!) and 3 slices bacon. Coffee with cream no sweetener.
L: leftover roast chicken breast cooked with mushrooms and cream with french beans and a little zero carb cheese grated on top.
D: FK lol probably a tin of mackerel with some chilli flakes olive oil lemon and spring onion
1 can of Coke Zero so far.

Ordered a new BBQ unit today in the sales (66% off woot) so plan on having a lot of BBQ'd low carb sausages and home made burgers as well as shish kebabs and kofte kebabs etc etc.

I had a great idea for ribs though, instead of just cooking them in the oven or deep frying them (which is OK but can be more chewy than sugar filled sloppy shop ones) I am going to stick them in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes BEFORE sticking them in a preheated oven at 220 degrees C to get that sort of 'pulled pork' effect. Not tonight though.

Not been snacking much lately, have so much work to do to finish my website and the 100s of videos to promote it on youtube that I am having too much fun to remember I can't eat potato crisps (chips to you yanks here )

Still at 15st 12lb of course, what else!!
