I guess the ranch dip would be okay, but it's too hard to do that and drive. (My car has a lousy drink holder.) The smell of fries makes me crave them if they're around me. I swear I can smell the salt on them.

We tried the rutabaga fries at home the other night. We got impatient for them to bake and ate them too crunchy. They tasted alright though, and I gently dabbed them in a teaspoon of catsup. But I think I'll try them again, maybe even frying them.

And good work for you resisting the fries, especially "just one!"

Rutabaga?? Nice!!! I've never thought of that. Have you tried it with turnips? I've started making sweet potato fries for DH.

They're both a little difficult to find around here, although they have been showing up in the produce at Walmart of all places. It's an LC recipe here. I posted my fried rutabaga, squash, and onion recipe here & the other site, too.

My parents ate so many turnips as children that I never tasted either one til a couple of years ago. I think they can be used somewhat interchangeably.

I have always eaten potatoes over any other starch, so my search was for a LC replacement. Jicama seemed like it's supposed to be eaten raw. Rutabaga and turnips came up next as a possible substitute. I did my first cauli mash last night. It was good, but hard to keep on the fork. I kept chasing the bits around the bowl!

my punishment for eating off yesterday is to post it:

B- coffee with HC and 2 splendas
B- scrambled eggs, cheese, and sausage patty from cafeteria- seemed a little too creamy- probably had milk in it

L- 1/4 cup mixed nuts
L-slice of dessert served in food&culture class. i scraped the jam off and thought it was a cottage cheese and egg bake, but turned out to have sugar and flour in it too, some strawberries too
L- half a rye cracker with an ounce of pickled fish (also food&culture class)

D-red lobster- grilled scallops, shrimp, and chicken. tons of butter, broccoli. picked at my kids food, dont know how much but still wasnt good

S- SF candy serving

W- eh, maybe 45 ounces

im up a pound oh well.... wish to say today will be better but tonight my MIL is making me a SF cake for a belated birthday party. thought that was sweet of her but i wish i could just stay at home! but alot of family is coming over (celebrating a couple birthdays) and she made this cake especially for me so ill probably be the only one eating it, meaning it will be obvious how small my slice is. PLUS i wont know how truly bad it is.... feeling low today, wish the day was over already

asdf, Wow! A group birthday party would be tough to handle. Since we're doing a Way of Eating, and not a diet, then that was a temporary diversion from which you know you will recover. It was a summer romance, and now back to the real world.

oro -congrats on the new low!

I'm hoping my staying on the WOE during this trip will pay off on the scale. We'll see in the morning.

B 3 small eggs and 2 pieces chicken bologna
S - a peppermint puff, because my sugar was crashing in the grocery store
L Wendy's double cheeseburger, minus the bun
D brocolli, cherry tomato, celery, ranch dip, toppings off 1 piece pepperoni and 1 piece meatlover's pizza
S Carb smart vanilla w/ semisweet choc chips and Torani SF raspberry syrup

It's good to be home where I don't have to explain what I'm eating or not eating, and I don't have to keep fending off other food. It really upset them when I didn't want a baked potato last night. I thought about it today and said they could bake me a couple turnips or a rutabaga next time if they were worried about it. I'm not trying to be militant or anything. It's just a medical issue!

Stand strong for you and your health. I've stopped having people make meals for me. I always have a cooler and a small lunch bag I carry with meals. I pop them in the microwave and eat something different. At first I met with resistance but eventually I just became the weird guest that brings her own meals. I'm OK with that. Barring that, I recommend we go out for meals. Then everyone is happy. Even so, I'm always happy to get home so I don't feel like I need to fend off comments about my eating habits. I'm going away for 10 days this month. Thank goodness everyone we're visiting is familiar with my weirdness. lol

Thanks for your kudos.

well actually i AM doing a diet- this is definitely not a way of life for me, i just need to get off my 2 pregnancies weight but i get what you are saying, just like to vent it all out- get the ugly 'toxic' negativity out in the open! usually i would bring my meals too, oro, but it was my MIL and every year she makes me a cake- this year her cafe was SF with regular icing ( she tried). but i definitely should have just threw it out on the way home.

live and learn

Thank you very much, oro. Now that I have my routine down better (1,200 calorie daily goal, no late night snacking, small mini meals throughout the day, etc), maybe the lbs will go away faster

plans are good! im slowly getting more strict- cut out my SF chocolates. last couple days i have eaten too much dairy but usually im good at managing that. i just need to stop letting little things slide. i want to lose 5 lbs this month!

cant wait until i hit the 150s!! (i got almost 5 lbs to go but im still getting excited)

luvleliz and congrats on the new low- you are really getting close to crossing that line!
