Packed lunch ideas for work?

Going back to work next week and do not want anyone to know I'm on Atkins (a lot of judgement about Atkins at my work) so I am trying to think of "normal" looking lunches to pack, without it looking like a blob of meat ( I can just hear the ladies saying, "oh how unhealthy!")

Also some small snacks. The cafe at my work has pretty much zero low carb options and I eat lunch there so I need to have plenty of pack ideas!

Any suggestions?

I don't know how what level of carbs you are on, but here are some examples of what I bring for lunch:

tuna or chicken salad w/bed of lettuce and cottage cheese
sirloin pork w/salad (or green beans or broccoli) and cottage cheese
steak w/salad or green beans and cottage cheese
meatloaf w/out breading and vege
deli meat and cheese rollups
deli meat, cheese, and lettuce on LC torilla
pepperoni w/mozz cheese

snacks:
almonds
fresh greenbeans
sugar free jello
cream cheese w/splenda and sf jello
Carbmaster yogurt

If you haven't checked out these websites, do so, they have some great recipes!

I guess I wouldn't worry how your lunch looks to others. Take foods that you like to eat that are low-carb -- boiled eggs, meats, cheese, nuts, salad, etc. You don't owe anyone an explanation on how you eat. I'm sure you look at some of their lunches and think they are unhealthy, but are they acting like they care what you think about it? No. So why should you care what they think about yours? Just my opinion...

Chicken & brocolli with seasoning of your choice
homemade soup (chicken broth, chicken, carrots, diced or stewed tomatoes etc)
Hamburger pattie on bed of lettuce with green beans on side (or chop it upbto look like meatloaf!)
Beef & brocolli stir fry use seasonings as needed
chef salad

The almond cracker recipe is easy & delicious!!

I totally agree that you don't own anyone an explanation on your food choices. Nor should we judge anyone else for piecing and parting their own lunch.

I make Linda Sue's recipes mostly which I absolutely love. It is a real meal not just piecing and parting things together. I take my leftovers from dinner (if my kids don't eat it all) for lunch the next day in my container(s). Most of the time people are like oh my goodness what is that, that smells awesome or that looks yummy and they are jealous and want some!

The only thing someone has asked me about was making cheese crackers in the microwave at work. I just told them it's my favorite yummy cracker and I make it with cheese.

I usually just make extra meat for dinner and then plop it on top of a bed of lettuce for lunch the next day. No one is going to look at you and think a salad is unhealthy.

I eat lunch with dietitians so much judgement goes around about food choices. But yes, in other circumstances I do not care (such as with friends and family). It is just a unique circumstance.

But thanks, some of these ideas sound reasonable. Thank you for responding!

I packed lunch for year. Usually in a rush... some of my favorite quick ideas are

Tuna salad wrapped in lettuce leaves
Cheeseburgers on Oopsie Rolls
Cucumbers, tomatoes, onions in vinegar
Atkins shakes or a low carb protein shake for a sweet treat
Shirataki pad thai
Pb and celery sticks
LC chicken and broccoli prepared how you like it
Mashed cauliflower with cheese was always a favorite side of mine to replace mashed potatoes
Meat loaf with LC ketchup
LC wrap with your choice of lunch meats and veggie toppings

There's just a few off the top of my head...

I don't like to waste my lunch time standing in line waiting my turn for the microwave nor do I like the smell of other peoples food cooking in the caf. And fortunately for me the main caf is at the other end of the building on the 3rd floor. I hate it when people ask me to go with them over there because I always have to say no thank you which implies I'm being unsociable. But I would rather not go and avoid temptations. And I don't like having to tell people my diet either. I just make my lunch on a low carb tortilla and make a handful of veggie slices to go with it. The main building has a track for walking which I use while I munch on my lunch at the same time. Simple and takes hardly any time to make my lunch.

WOW

I am experiencing the same problem. I find that I have to explain my lunch choices to my co-workers. I get comments like: "No carb? I thought you were eating Low carb?" or "Really- that is what you are going to eat?" I also get criticism about being "crabby." Seriously, I haven't been crabby. I am the boss, so if I have to act like one, maybe they should take some accountability!!

I work night shift 7p-7a every Th/F/S/S- on Sunday I had brats for lunch- it was the only meal I had in 24hours. Those of you who work night shift will understand this. Well, there were 3 in my bag and I ate all 3. Just brats, nothing to dip them in, no bun, just brats. Wouldn't you know I got a comment from one of my co-workers that: "That is what your problem is!" I am not going to lie, I did have a problem with portion size before LC, but that truly was all I ate in 24 hours.

I am struggling with lunch choices as well. Mostly the problem is organization. I just need to prepare myself a bit more before work and have all of the tools the I need for this WOE. So, I am going to make Oopsie rolls today!!

Isn't it terrible how people just say things without thinking about how it will affect you? I'm sure every one one of your coworkers has stressed about their weight or health at one time or another, it's like they forget what it's like! Hey, they might even be a little pissy for not watching their weight, or think you are judging them for not dieting, who knows? Still no right to comment.

Organization is tough. Sure I say I'm going to make my lunch every night before. And that works for a week haha sometimes it just is too hard to plan. I have been bringing leftovers in and doing tuna and egg salad which isn't too noticeable. And I have been avoiding the lunch group as well, making up excuses every now and again. Hang in there, they will keep shutting up as the pounds come off!

I bake chicken every Sunday and take it all week. I either heat it up or just eat it cold dipped in mayo.
I also like harded boiled eggs or canned chicken.
Salad is always an easy one.
Rolled up lunch meat and cheese.

wow some great ideas for lunch..... will keep a listing of these ideas for when I start back at work again.

as for people's comments on our WOE - I really do dislike comments like that...... I am a diabetic... and when I eat off plan.. my sugar numbers go up.... but when I eat OP my numbers are great... my Dr. said keep doing what I am doing...... I know that I am "carb sensitive" - and I do not want to get into a fight with friends... so I just smile and eat what I want to eat..

So far so good, thanks for the help guys! Leftovers are my savior! I worry about lunch meat, if there is added hidden carbs. Last time I was on Atkins I lived on rolled up lunch meat and cheese and lost so much, even though I was soooo not doing Atkins right. Now I do Atkins closer to perfect and I am losing so slow! Haha so I really do get scared of a lot of foods

I work at the hospital ( i'm a nurse ) and you would not believe how "obsessed" people are with what I bring to work !!! It's funny... they all say how good you look and "I should eat what you eat" etc.... but they don't and then they ask me almost every day " What did you bring ?" I do so much better working 12's and staying on plan, when I am off, I tend to cheat more........

I take:
celery with PB or pimento cheese
grapes
leftover brisket, hamb steak, fajitas, etc...
pork rinds
string cheese
Greek yogurt with blueberries and pecans
sausage and cabbage

Hope this helps !

I never had time to do proper lunches when I was working.

I had 5 tupperware containers with dividers. On Sunday, I made a giant green salad (diffeent ingredients each week) and put it in the largest section, put salad dressing in one of the smaller sections, and put protein in the other small section (protein was usually something like tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, bunless burgers, hardboiled eggs, bacon and shredded cheese).

I did the same protein for a week, then switched the next week. Honestly, it was a tad boring by Friday, but it accomplished several things... I made lunch for the whole week in under an hour, had fairly substantial lunches with protein and fat to keep me full all day, and I got veggies in daily even if I overslept and didn't have time for a proper breakfast or worked late and got home too late to cook much.

Think mason jars. You can do so much with them. Ps. I never tell anybody I am eating atkins. Just healthy

Peanut butter on the bottom and cerely stuck in the peanut butter (great snack)
salad dressing at the bottom and the fixings on top
cole slaw
cucmbers with or with cream cheese
cubes of cheese
1 oz of almonds
Soup in thermos is great
Meat and cheese wraps and mason jar salad
any leftovers

Let the imagination run wild Good luck.....

leftovers have been really working for me. i was making a meal that would serve 4-6 and just giving my husband half and then me half for dinner. now i give him his half and when possible, i cut mine in half again and save that for lunch. bonus points for lowering my portion sizes! (which is great bc my dinners usually are packed with dairy!)

If you're in a rush like I usally am....the night before you need to prepare your lunch so its ready the next day. Pop into the microwave and there you go. I love hot ham and melted cheese with eggs and bacon. I just fix all of it the night before and put it all in the same bowl. Thats me, but trust me once ppl smell what your eating they are less likely to judge you. Also hard boiled eggs is another great snack food. Mozorella Cheese Sticks and a couple of Slim Jims, the small ones. The list goes on and on, but remember you're not counting calories just carbs. So that makes it much easier. I hope that helps you a little bit.

I didn't read through the posts, I will once I'm done typing. :P This is what I do for lunches/food at work:

First I have either a poached egg or one minute flax muffin in the morning before work with my vitamins and water. 5 minute breakfast from start to finish.

The night before I prepare my snacks for the day, all measured so I don't over eat (no choice! It really helps too) I measure out almonds in a container, then cheese in a baggy, and a baggie of chopped veggies. I vary this with celery, cucumber and other low sugar veggies. Sometimes I'll also measure out peanut butter or real roast beef as well. i never eat everything I take with me, but it gives me choices so I don't get bored or desperate.

For lunches, it's always last night's leftovers. Low carb stir frys, soups, fish and veggies, etc.

I also keep tea in my desk, when I'm tired of drinking water or need something hot. And I drink a ton of water.

That's how I stay low carb at work!
