Esam - I keep it simple too actually. Most of my meals are rather simple (quiche - like 4 ingredients and I eat it daily); lunches are usually turkey wrapped with a pickle and mayo or salami and cream cheese - this week it's soup. Dinners are pretty plain for me too - chicken or hamburger with cheese. I tend to have just one serving of veggies per day as they slow my weight loss. That shake sounds Ah-mazing!!

Pawley - what movie are you going to see? I haven't been to the threatre in way too long. I'm with you on being lazy and not exercising. I know I need to, but I don't want to!

RA - Please let us know about your sister. We'll all be thinking of her today. Don't be too hard on yourself for eating off plan yesterday. When we are under that kind of stress, it's so natural to grab carbs. You can get back on track today or tomorrow or whenever you can. It's not the most important thing right now.

I know I promised to post my chocolate flax muffin recipe before and never did, so here it is for those who need a sweet treat right now.

Chocolate Chip Flax Muffins
2 cups flax meal (golden is my preference)
4 teaspoons baking powder
5 packets splenda
5 eggs (large or jumbo)
3/4 stick of butter
1/2 cup pecan pieces
5 teaspoons cocoa powder
1/2 cup chocolate chips

I found ghiradelli 60% cocao bittersweet chocolate chips in my baking aisle of my grocery store. A 1/2 cup is 5 servings (80 calories; 6 grams of fat; 8 carbs; 1 fiber per serving) = 35 net carbs. The recipe makes 12 muffins so it's slightly less than 3 carbs of chocolate per muffin.

I cooked them on 350 for 15 minutes.

I've never run the numbers through a carb calculator, but I've always assumed it was 4 carbs per muffin - it makes 12 muffins. They taste excellent cold or warmed with butter. They also freeze VERY well. When I make them (have not this time around yet), I always immediately freeze 1/2 of them. The other 6 I eat over a few days as a meal substitute.

Hey girls.

esam - LOVE the commercial. So adorable.

RA - So sorry to hear about your sister. I know all too well about hospitals making critical errors. My hometown hospital diagnosed my severe lung pains and trouble breathing as pneumonia, gave me meds (which I was allergic to so severely that I swelled btw), and told me to go home. Two days later, it was worse, so the hubby took me to a bigger hospital about 30 minutes away and found out I had a bilateral pulmonary embolism (both lungs were full of blood clots). I was admitted to ICU immediately and nearly died. Was in there for 3 weeks. It was first semester of my freshman year of college. Had I not went to the second hospital, I likely wouldn't be here. I know when something drastic like that happens, it's very hard to stay on plan, but I know you can do it. If you slip, don't beat yourself up. Just move forward and always keep trying to improve.

Pawley - Good for you for making a plan for the movies. My hubby wants to see a movie when he gets home from deployment and I can only hope I will be able to show as much restraint as you. Popcorn and junior mints call to me

Marv - A little bit of PB isn't too bad. You could've done MUCH worse. Good for you! I'm gonna try to stick to around 1500 calories since I workout most days, and then any day that I don't work out for whatever reason.. I'll keep it to around 1300 or 1400-ish.

Amber - Congrats on 258!!!! So proud of you! I am hoping I can lose 10 lbs. at the 2 week mark. That's Friday and right now I'm down 6.8 lbs. It'll be tight, but I'm gonna work really hard. We'll see. It seems to be coming off so slowly for me. I think too many calories and a few days of overindulgence on dairy and diet drinks may be to blame. I'm just gonna keep working hard and take what I can get. Afterall, I'm trying to make a permanent change so as long as I keep making positive changes, the weight will come off. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything in my power to maximize it.

Chelsey - Where arrreee yyyoooouuu??? Get your butt back on here woman!

I tried to do Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred today and had to stop like 5 minutes in. I think I just have too much extra weight on me right now that it's too hard on my joints. It does look like a VERY effective program and to be honest, I'm bummed I'm not there quite yet. I think I'll keep trying every 20 lbs. until it doesn't hurt my joints anymore. For now, I'm gonna stick to my 2 or 3 Mile walking videos 5-6 days a week. They do incorporate some upper body resistance training and I break a great sweat doing them. And it is low impact which is great for me with achy knees and 2 herniated disks in my lower back. Gotta be gentle on my poor body while I get some of this crazy weight off of it. I'm feeling pretty good though and that's worth a lot.

About how much weight did it take you fellow 200+ ladies to start seeing a slimmer face? Obviously, slimmer everything is good, but I'm most self-conscious about my face. It's very round and chubby and that darn double chin..... I hate it. I know it varies for everyone, but just wondering when I may be able to start seeing a difference there.

Today's menu:
B - Quiche... mmmm.
L - Chicken breast w/ tbsp of alfredo and roasted green beans
D - Mexican hamburger spinach bake
S - Turkey and/or SF jello
Water, water, water, water (and a little crystal light if needed)
E - 5 minutes of Shred (LOL) and 2 mile walk w/ upper body resistance

Sebooth - how tall are you? I'm 5'5 and my double chin started to thin out last time around 245ish. I'm also ready for it to be noticeable as I'm self-conscious too. I started out with a weight that is 10 percent higher than yours, and I only lost 10 in the first 2 weeks. So remember, even 7 is AWESOME. It's still 3.5 per week. I'm only averaging 4. I've just been on the plan a few extra weeks. My goal is only 2.5 per week so whenever I hit that number, I celebrate everything else as extra.

Okay, gotta run. I'll see you all tomorrow.

I saw Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - wow... what a great movie... and yes I did cry at the end... That yound actor Thomas Horn is just wonderful and his first movie or acting ever.... he is going to be a STAR..... the whole movie is about him and how he deals with losing his father (Tom Hanks) on 9/11... what a powerful movie......

my two friends both got popcorn... and I had 8 pieces of popcorn.. just to have a taste... and I had my ice water with me... so I do not think I did badly... and that taste was fine with me.. and I did not want more.....

I am so excited! My son flies in from Germany today!! I will not see him until about 3 in the morning. Hubby and DIL are picking him up tonight at 7 in St loius. That is about 6 hours away. Military would not ship him to Little Rock...could have chose Memphis though. Oh well he is coming home and that is all that matters! I may not be around much tomorrow. Not sure if I am going to work or not. Boss left it up to me

Seebooth - I am 5'-8 and do not really have a chubby face but everyone started telling me that my face looked thinner (my mom actually said I looked sick and she didn't like it...whatever!) around 20 pounds! That is so scary about the blood clots! I almost lost my mom that way when I was 19. And WAY TO GO on trying the shred! Most don't even try. Now one day when you are closer to goal it will feel even more awesome to be able to do it! My Dr actually told me that working out until 20-30 pounds from goal weight is horrible on joints and you do more long term damage than good. Water Aerobics, bike, strength training and light walking until closer to goal. That was his list.

Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers about my sister. They said the one blockage has relieved its self and the other is not in the shape it was yesterday. They are now testing her for an intestinal infection and have her in Quarantine! They did start her on a liquid diet...so keeping fingers crossed that she can keep it down and everything works out on its own!

I am in a better frame of mind about the not losing and even the mistake I made last night. I am going to stick with it!! It can't be stubborn forever right!! Since I am home alone with just my younger ones tonight I am going to make a couple quiches and some flax muffins to put up.

Also as a note to myself...those carbs I ate last night...ya they made me swell today!! Its the MAIN reason I gave up carbs! DR can't find why but when I don't eat them I don't swell. When I do my legs hands and feet do! Weird More of a reason to stay away right??

Have a great night ladies!! I look forward to talking you later!

Amber - I'm about 5'4" (maybe a tad shorter but I round up!). I naturally have a round face anyway, and I know that will never change (and that's ok!), but I'm just ready for this ugly glob on my neck to go away! I'm so impatient I know it will in time. Surely by the 20 lb. mark, I'll REALLY start to see it. Looking forward to that!! I'll be patient for everything else to get smaller, but man - I sure miss having a thin face. I'm already feeling so much better with only 7 lbs. down. I know my thyroid is a little under-active and I'm combating insulin resistance (as many of us are), so all things considered, I think I'm doing pretty darn good. Thanks for the encouragement. 2.5 per week sounds good. I'll stick to that as my goal.

Pawleys - I want to see that movie! Good work on not overindulging at the movies! Had I had that little bit of popcorn, I would've eaten the whole tub. So proud of you for showing restraint!

RA - Glad to hear your sister is improving. I'll continue to keep her in my thoughts. Also, congrats on your son coming home!!! I will NOTbe able to contain my joy when it gets close to time for my hubby to come home. I miss him so unbelievably bad. But, I'm really happy I'm making all these positive changes so he will come home to a much happier and healthier wife. Have a great time with your son - I'm so thrilled for you! I'm proud of myself for trying the Shred, but I listened to my body when it told me I wasn't ready yet. But, I have the DVD and all the equipment, so I'll be ready the moment my body will allow it!

I had to move to Seattle from Indiana for the military so all my family and friends are back east. I don't really know anyone here yet, so I'm soooo happy and thankful to have you girls to help me and encourage me. Means a lot Talk to ya'll later!

Paws - Me too small face then it goes down hill from there . Luckily I am pretty evenly proportioned. I tend to lose in my stomach and butt first!

Seebooth - Where is your husbands deployment and when is he scheduled to come back? If I missed that I am sorry My son has been in Germany for two years with a non deployable unit so when he gets to KY next month they said he will most likely deploy in less than 9 months So I am going to making a lot of trips to KY until then!!

Its got to be hard being in a new place and not knowing anyone. We moved around a lot when I was a kid. As an adult I have chose to stay routed.

HIS PLANE JUST LANDED AS I AM TYPING!! Hubby just text me! I will see my baby in about 7 hours.

Ok Have a great night!!!

RA - Wooooohooooo!!! How VERY exciting for you! That is wonderful. He is deployed to the Middle East right now. He'll be back mid-summer. Feels like forever. We were together 7 years before he even joined the military. He did it for a stable job and free education. We were never apart more than a day before this. It's awwwwwful. But, I'm trying to use the time to do something positive. Working on my medical coding certification and getting skinnier

It does suck to be in a new place and since I'm not working yet, I haven't met co-workers or anything. Just a cashier at the grocery store and the girl at Starbucks who starts making my coffee when she sees me Think that means I drink too much coffee?

Anyway - so happy for you. Enjoy your time with him. It's always short but sweet for certain (One of my favorite Dave Matthews lyrics).

Have a good night!

Hey there glad to see some of you are seeing a change in the scale, or your face thinning out. It is the small changes that help us to keep going! I hope to chime in with some news sometime soon.

The peanutbutter was regular skippy brand. It was about 2 tablespoons worth. Last night no snacking so that is a small victory for me!

I have changed up my shred dvd to the ripped dvd. It gives a harder workout or at least I think so. I have done them both last summer and fall and really did not have a big weight loss *I night snacked alot*but, saw the inches come off and the strength go up so it was a good thing.

I would love to see more of your menus if you can....

B: 2 fried eggs 3 canadian bacon
L: whitecastle pie (trying to finish it up)
D: chicken breast crockpot w/ salad
S: sf jello
E:: 20 mins ripped and 20 mins ellipitical
water of course

Everyone Have a great day

sobooth - yes, I was proud of myself for not eating more than a few pieces of popcorn... I am trying to get it in my head that if I want something soooo bad that I could just have a taste of it... and surprising that really works....
going to PF Changs for a birthday luncheon with friends on Thurs... (and I adore Chinese food) so will have the egg drop soup... and eat only half of what I order and have one bite of the birthday girls's dessert.. (we always have a pass around the dessert - so that is not that bad.....) for we have to remember that we live in the REAL world and that temptations will come our way..... and that we will have to deal with them.....

RA - wow so glad you will have your DS home for a while..... I know what you are feeling.. my two sons live in Michigan and see them 2 or 3 times a year (not enough ) and it is such a joy to see them and we always can talk for hours.... I am very close to my sons (I am so blessed) and I am so glad that I have this relationship with them..... so have a great time with your son.........

Wow ladies! Lot's of things to mention here!

Sebooth - I meant to comment yesterday on my quick post about those clots. That's so scarry. It really is so important to listen to our bodies and get second and third opinions when necessary. Glad you are okay now. We have a lot in common - close in weight, close in height, and a love for DMB! I think the 20 pound mark is the mark when we start to see changes in our bodies so hopefully in a few weeks you'll notice your face start to slim down.

Pawley - 8 pieces of popcorn is pretty excellent! As for PFChangs, egg drop soup and get a chicken dish in the white/broth. They have hardly any carbs. You can order it with steamed veggies and no rice and stay perfectly on plan. I'm glad you liked the movie. I would have sobbed like a little baby in that film.

RA - SO HAPPY THAT YOUR SON IS HOME!!!!! I cannot imagine the excitement and joy you must feel today. Enjoy the time with your son!!! Have a wonderful day!!

Marv - your menu looks excellent. It's awesome how much you're excercising. I bet you'll see some nice sculpting soon.

Menu:
B: atkins bar
L: quiche
D: cheese brocolli soup

Yesterday, I planned to skip the potatoes and dessert, and I did. I also planned to skip the open bar but I didn't. I had a diet sprite/vodka and I feel bad that I did. I also had a ceasar salad and two steaks. Yep, two flippin' delicious steaks. I'd guess they were 7oz each so maybe 14+ oz of steak. Ugh, yeah, it was a lot and it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

I wasn't going to check the scale this morning but I faced it and saw a bounce up of a pound. I'm hoping that it was just salt retention and because I ate late and it will go away tomorrow. Here's hoping.

Good morning girls

Marv - Way to go on no night snacking! You are improving so much. I knew you could do it! Your menu looks great. And I have no doubt you will start seeing improvements soon - even if not on the scale. You are a devoted exerciser and you will get rewarded for it. Keep it up!!

Pawleys - I looooove PF Changs. Chinese food can be pretty forgiving carb-wise if you're smart about your choices....and you are absolutely right about temptation. It will <always> be there. Just as it is with any recovering drug or alcohol addict. We are recovering carb addicts. That is just something we are all going to have to learn to deal with in a realistic and healthy way. And I have faith Sounds like you have a good plan going in... stick with it!

Amber - We really do have a lot in common I love DMB.... absolutely love them. Go see them every year faithfully. Have some not-so-family friendly stories from the concerts, too. My gift to myself for getting to goal weight is going to be a DMB-inspired tattoo on my foot Probably going to get a firedancer with some lyrics - haven't decided which ones yet. Probably either "Celebrate we will, 'cause life is short but sweet for certain." or "Eat, drink, and be merry." We'll see. But yes, all my family and friends know me as the Dave fanatic. I almost always have him playing in my car. I don't think you should beat yourself too much for your night... you did WAY better than you could have. You had one drink with very little sugar....you skipped the potatoes and dessert. You probably only say that pound increase because you ate late. I almost always see a gain if I eat past 6:30pm or so. Don't sweat it. Just eat an early dinner and I'm sure you'll drop right back down.

On another note - I got the Atkins welcome kit in the mail today with three free bars. Of course, I immediately opened them all to taste them...and the snack and meal replacement ones were AWFUL! (To me anyway.) However, the endulge caramel nut chew one tastes JUST LIKE a Snickers!!! Yummmm My absolute favorite candy bar. So, it's good knowing I can grab one of those once a week or so as a guilt-free treat. Don't wanna get into the habit of eating them everyday even though they're supposed to be induction-friendly. I know they cause stalls in most people. But still, a comforting thought if I just can't stand the sugar devil on my shoulder.

Menu for today:
B - Quiche
L - Hamburger w/ cheese and homemade LC ketchup w/ roasted veg
D - Probably some lunchmeat and some sort of veg (have been eating light for dinner lately - the scale thanks me!)
S - SF jello or some ham
E - 20 min light walk this morning and 2 mile walk video w/ upper body

It's my birthday today. Another year older..... ew.

amber - sorry you are up a pound, but it could be the salt..... your steaks sound good... I am not much of a beef eater (I use turkey meat for my patties) but sometimes I do like a great steak..... med-rare of course....

sobooth - I had recieved the atkins box a while back.. and I also loved the caramel bar... very good but have decided not to have things like that around the house.... for I have that night-time eating thing.. and do not want to be tempted... that is why in my home: - no PB - no ice cream -and no candy..........

Happy Birthday Sebooth!!!!

You are still in your 20s so you don't get to complain about birthdays yet!!

I've seen Dave in concert probably 4 or 5 times (I've lost count) but haven't been to a concert in at least 6 years. I could listen to him sing anything though. And yeah, I have stories too!

I like the idea of a tatt for hitting goal. The celebrate quote would be nice but I"m not sure I'd want to put any quote about eating on my body after losing 100 pounds. You know? I've tossed around ideas before about one too for goal but I doubt I'll do it. DH is pretty anti-tattoo so I wouldn't want him to hate it. We'll see.

Your birthday menu looks EXCELLENT!!

Sebooth!!

Mine is Monday and I will be the dreaded 40!! Funny cause it was bothering me a few months ago but no so much now

My sister is getting out of the hospital today! It was a viral infection that caused her bowels to spasm and kink. It did work out on its own. She is able to keep soft foods down and is no longer contagious. They did say if she has any kind of stomach issues to come back immediately!

Having a big lasagna dinner at my house after work for son being home. There will be 20 people there!! I was planning on only working about half a day today but my boss who's wife was due with their baby in two weeks decided that this morning was time so now I am here swamped and possibly leaving late....definitely coming in early.

B - bacon and atkins shake
L - 3 oz chicken, lettuce, sour cream, pace and few pork rinds
D - Hamburger steak with no sugar marinara and green beans

Hellooooooo!! You know, I read something someone wrote on the boards one time. "If you arent posting, you are probably cheating" How true it is.

Today is day one. I wont bore you with all of the zillion excuses I could come up with for falling off the wagon, but I am back, killer headache and all.

Sorry for not being around. I will try to be better. Promise!

I have had a chance to catch up, I will try to now while the boy watches Caillou. I have had lots of tests, one of which I got an A!!! UNHEARD OF! Its seems like last semester they were weeding us out, and this semester they actually want us to succeed! Such a good feeling!

So far so good today, not feeling hungry, have a bad headache, but thats about it. Havent stepped on the scale since my run in with the doctor's scale on Saturday, I am a little afraid, but I might get on soon. Its wrong anyway, as the doctor's scale quoted me about 5 lbs less than my own scale at home, and you know they are always high! I am thinking about subtracting 5 lbs from mine when I weigh from now on...whatcha think? I could always buy a new one, but we are really trying to save and all and it seems like it gets pushed to the backburner. Sigh.

Okay, off to catch up! Hope all has been well!

Chelsey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy you are back. I swear this year I'm not doing it alone - you and me are going to walk into onderland together!! As for subtracting five pounds, I'd just skip that and go with what your scale says. I'd be a PITA to keep subtracting five pounds daily to remember your weight. When you are like 220, splurge and get a new scale so you know exactly when you are in onderland. Also, how'd the doctor's appt go? Was your BP okay?

P.S. DS loves Caillou too. He asks for it and says he wants to see Caillou and Rosie. He just hates those weird cartoon animal parts.

Sebooth- BILATERAL PULM EMBOLISMS?!?!?!? The nurse inside me is shocked to see you survive! Its amazing you are still here, and shame on the people who sent you home! Its not really all that hard to diagnose!! We have a hospital up the street from us, referred to as the "bandaid clinic" that diagnosed DH's appendicitis as mono? Ummm, not even close. It ruptured after they sent him home. How awesome. As far as the slimmer face goes, I would say 20 lbs is when everyone started to notice, and by my profile pic at 245, I was getting regular compliments on how slim I was getting. I like to think my face looked pretty slim in that picture! I am 5'8"

RA- YAY about your son! I am actually raised in KY, and its beee-you-tiful! Enjoy the country when you visit around Ft Campbell! Sorry to hear about your sister but I am glad she is getting better! I hate viruses...not a whole lot they can do for them, they just have to run their course When I saw bowel spasms, it sounded a lot like IBS or Crohns, does she have any other conditions previously? Forgive the nursing student in me...we tend to diagnose everyone

Amber- I so hope to welcome Onederland with you before the year is over! BP was high, higher than ever before, partly I am sure due to pain, but its normally 120s/70s or so and now its 146/90?! Scary. I know stress plays a role and I have a lot of that, but thats too high for my comfort.

I also agree with the scale, I am thinking of not weighing all the time anyway, so that will help. I like your idea of the 220s, like maybe a high tech one that tells me all sorts of stuff I have to make buying a new scale as a reward exciting one way or another...when most of the time I want to throw it out the window! Ankle is better though, I was having some spasms the other day in it, but those seem to be gone too. I have clinicals tomorrow so I hope that doesnt aggravate it, but I will wear my brace just in case.

Anyway, look at you all at 258?! Good job!! I think I have about 20 lbs to catch up to you! I cant believe how awesome you are doing...well, I can because you are so dedicated. Can you bottle some up and send it to Indiana? I could use some!

So, can I join your DMB fan club? Brings me back to college (the first time LOL)! I love him. Here is the lyrics that always remind me of my DH:

But I do know one thing
Is where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go
Is where I want to be

Dave makes me swoon.

Marver and Pawleys- PB is my nemesis. I currently have a almost-to-the-last-spoonful jar in my pantry. No more will be bought as DS hates PB and J (along with chocolate milk...whos son is this?!) and DH doesnt really like PB either. I dont know who I live with, but they arent normal

Okay, so this ends my posting avalanche, sorry if I didnt get to every one, I missed you all!

I have to run but Chelsey, I love those lyrics. I can hear him singing it. It brings me back to a younger me too! I'd love to bottle up motivation and send it to you. I'm using a very selfish thing to motivate me. It's being thinner than my sis when she gives birth. It's probably the one shot I have - she'll be 190-200 by her due date (guessing if she gains 30 pounds) and I have a shot at being there too. Then I'd be nicely in onderland by DS's 3rd birthday. I really, really want to be there.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone!!! My hubby managed to make it special from the other side of the planet. I had a strawberry cheesecake show up at my door today (see pic below). I am SO proud of myself though, I had like 2 bites and a couple fresh strawberries off the top, and then portioned it out and put it in the freezer. I have family coming soon and THEY can eat it. He doesn't know I'm LC-ing because I want to surprise him. I'm sure he wouldn't have sent it if he did It really made my day though. He even rearranged his schedule so he could say up all night (night for him, day for me) to spend my birthday with me on IM. That's why I haven't posted much today.... I really do have an amazing hubby.

RA - Hope you are enjoying your time with your son

Pawleys - I hear ya on the no treats in the house. It's gonna kill me having that cheesecake in the freezer, but I can do it!!!

Marv - Thank you!!! Trying to remember that calories and carbs always count... even on birthdays and holidays Exercise, too!

Amber - Yeah I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the celebrate quote. Seems fitting. I'm just gonna get a small one on my foot - nothing that can't be hidden or masked if needbe

Chelsey - Welcome back girlfriend!!!!! So glad you hopped right back on with us. Keep coming and we'll motivate you to success It's funny you say that about my bilateral PE... all the nurses and doctors were pretty shocked I lived, too. Apparently it was pretty bad. They even had a priest in my room...whom I promptly asked to leave because I told him death was not an option.

Love the mutual DMB affection. He makes me swoon, too. I'm dying to take the hubby to a DMB concert. He always does a big one at The Gorge here in Washington since he lives part-time in Seattle. He must have the Dave experience

Ok, cheesecake pic as promised...
