Starting Induction
Hi Everyone!
I am on day 2 of induction and finally taking my health and fitness seriously! I have done low carb before and lost weight, however I did not do it in a healthy manner and eventually gained the weight back. I am now committed to a lifestyle rather than a "diet" and keeping a food journal, not hiding the fact that I am changing the way I eat, and ensuring that my carbs come from a variety of vegetables. I just joined this forum for additional support to keep me motivated and inspired to continue down this path for my health and self-esteem! I am very excited to begin seeing results. Any tips from experienced low-carbers would be very much appreciated!!! Well, off to the gym! |

Nice to meet you too! Do you have any ideas for induction snacks or meals to keep things interesting? Boredom has always been a huge problem for me on this diet so I am trying to stay focused on keeping a variety of meals on my menu!

I don't know if you like soups, but I make this egg drop chicken soup and it is 0 or 1 carb. Its great but I love soups and can eat them every day. Do you like jalapenos? I make these stuffed jalapenos that are so good and low in carbs. Also, I eat a lot of deviled eggs for snacks, but that can get pretty boring. Lol. Or there's meat sandwiches. I make this cream cheese mixture with garlic and chives and spices and spread it on some lunch meat and roll it up for a snack. It is sooooo good. It is hard though, because so many people like different things. I think snack time is the hardest part for me too because it is a little hard to get snacks on Atkins. I wold like to get some snack ideas too. What do you eat for snacks?

Thanks for the tips Annie! I love jalapenos, what do you stuff them with? I can't do deviled eggs anymore, ate too many of them last time I was on induction and they no longer sound appetizing! Hence the reason I need to find variety so I don't get sick of all my low carb foods!

So I take cream cheese and add garlic, chives, garlic salt, and pepper and mix it together. I stuff the jalapenos and close the tops of them with toothpicks. You can either bake them or grill them on the grill. They're sooooo good. You should definitely try it sometime!! I have made them for bbqs and found that they're Atkins friendly so I eat them now too. If you like jalapenos, you will probably really like them. O.k. now I am hungry. Lol. What kinds of stuff do you eat?

That's great!! 25lbs is a lot for me seeing as I have never been able to stick to a diet so if I hit the 25lb mark at some point I will freak out! In a good way, of course. Lol. How long did it take you to lose the 25lbs? And how long did you do the induction phase?

Oooh, that sounds easy and delicious! For breakfasts I have been eating spinach, mushroom, red pepper, and goat cheese frittatas. I also eat stuffed mini bell peppers with goat cheese, basil, and chives, chicken breast pounded out flat and then rolled up with the same mixture....can you tell I love goat cheese!?! Also caprese salads with no sugar added to the balsamic reduction. Later when you get out of induction there is a recipe for low carb peanut butter cookies that just mixes one cup of peanut butter, one egg, and a cup of splenda--I think those are the measurements it has been a while. They are soo good and completely fill a cookie craving! That recipe makes about 12.

I was on atkins 7 years ago and lost 50 lbs in about 4 months. the past couple of years i have gained quite a bit of weight so i am doing it again. i am on day 6 of induction.
I by fresh jalapeonos and cut them into halves. Then make a mixture of real bacon bits, cheddar cheese, and cream cheese. Stuff the pepper halves and bake at 350 until golden brown. Delicious !!! i also made meatballs last night with hamburger, ground pork, a few crushed pork rinds to hold them together, cheddar cheese, red hot, and spices of choice. They were pretty good. |
