Aktkins Newbies? Any Freshly Started Inductions?
I just registered today and on day 3 of low carb induction. It hasn't been too hard seeing that this is my 2nd time around doing this. I lost about 60lbs in 2004. I started at 250 and lost down to 190. I kind of maintained the weight for a year and then went up to 220 in 2007 then I got pg with my little girl. Post Pg I was at 250, lost the weight but am still stuck at about 220-228 (fluxuates) ick! So I am here to make it happen again. I am just trying to deal with sugar cravings right now. It actually was hard the first day and not so bad yesterday. I guess the whole dessert after dinner is hard to kick! On to the reason I am starting....I am tired of being tired, Sick of being Sick with this weight that Is breaking me down! I need to start anew and move on towards goals and acheivements of well bieng! Next on my agenda is to join a kick boxing class!! woohoooo....I love using my legs! So ladies....Tell me where you are on this self improvement road? What are your goals and what made you decide to embrace your self worth? What does your meal planning day look like? Routines? At anyrate....Nice to meet you guys! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Aug. 11th 2009---Start 227 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Mini Mini Goal -----210--------->By October 1st ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Next Determined Mini Goal ---------180-------> By February 1st 2010 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I will make it happen! Hi! I'm restarting. I love your hair!
I really hope I can stick with it now. I write for a blog for work so I can't tell if being home working will make it easier. I think it might. My last pregnancy was in 2002. In around 2005, my jerky ex left me partially because I didn't get back to where I was (being less chubby) beforehand. While I want someone to love me for me, it still makes me mad he did that. I have been involved with a guy I really am crazy about since 2006, but he lives abroad and a part of me I'd not care to acknowledge thinks maybe he'd commit to me more if I were a bit more show-off-able. ![]() One thing I can't do yet is weigh myself. I went to fat camp as a kid and I'm still terrified of scales. Does anyone here not weigh themselves? ![]()

I'm getting ready to restart too. I think all the recipes I'm finding from Cleochatra will definitely help me stay on track this time around!

Well you had that right about the Jerk part! He sounded like a real #*%! That right there is never good for self esteem. You need to love yourself before all else. Of course our children are the first prioritys as well as jobs but when we loose focus on ourselves, we lose alot more which ends up bieng harder to reclaim. I say that cause your story about your ex hit home. I was there too. Such a #*%^! He broke me down so far, I really thought I was exactly what he made me feel. I left, eventually but it took me a very long time to realize I am so much better then any man could ever make me feel. I left him in 2000 and it took til 2004 to get my butt in gear. I did the low carb thing, I walked almost 6 miles a day (2miles in the morning, afternoon,2 at nite). It came off real quick and easy. Maintained it for awhile then had my little one. It's all about focusing on yourself and what is going to make you happy. The one thing I have learned in life is that you need to want change for yourself and yourself only. If someone is changing just to please another or to get the attention of another If will ultimately backfire. Love,Love,Love........Yourself! Oh yah the weighing part! Yah im kinda like that too. I was always told I was fat when I was a kid, that I needed to lose weight, that If I didnt lose weight that I would be very sick when I got older...oh and the best one was "you dont want to get cellulite"...This all being said by my 2 aunts who would force me to get on the scale to criticize me more. It was hard. Now I weigh myself at least once a week and when I dont really care because Im noticing the clothes are fitting looser then I dont even weigh myself at all. I will be weighing my self once a week now that Ive started this , just to keep tabs, also pictures. I havent took one recently but I will take one later. and thank you on the compliment!!!! |

Hello, new ladies! I hope you all have great success with Atkins, and I hope you get the support you need from this forum.
As you can see, I am not a newbie, but I would like to answer MissGEE's questions. Quote:
But you can't be ready for facing the truth until you gather up the inner strength and self-esteem to take action. So congratulations to all of you for being ready. Quote:
Health concerns, turning 40, and feeling like I was NOT going to continue dragging around a body that felt like it didn't belong to me. I couldn't wear the clothes I liked. I didn't want to exercise because my body felt so bulky and awkward. I didn't hardly recognize my face anymore. Pretty much, it just sucked, all the way around. I got sick of putting up with the suckage and got stubborn, and MAN, does it feel good to be back to where I was before all this nonsense. Every day is its own reward, I'll tell you that. Quote:
COMMITMENT. Everything starts there. Because I am committed, I take a few minutes a day to plan out my meals on Fitday (it's free, and it's super-helpful). Because I am committed, I read and re-read the book and familiarize myself with ALL phases of Atkins, not just Induction. Because I am committed, I don't cheat. Because I am committed, I follow the steps of OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss) and introduce new foods in an orderly manner. Because I am committed, I plan ahead and shop wisely and cook food ahead of time to make my life easier. Last time I did Atkins, I pretty much stayed on Induction for a few months and then began flailing around and cheating, and then I'd try to start Induction again, and then I'd go off-plan again, and I never held on to the focus and discipline I have found this time around. Because I am committed, I have passed my first goal of reaching 150 pounds, and am still going strong. You CAN do this if you want it enough and if you know you deserve it! Who knows where you all will be in six months? You'd be surprised! So do it by the book, be serious about it, and GOOD LUCK to you! |

Thank you its nice hearing from someone who has been through the ups and downs of this madness! Regarding what you wrote that's exactly how I feel. I did lose some weight eating properly but would slack and believe me carbs stick to me like like concrete. I eat a few carbs and I bloat up so bad, just swollen. I would fluxuate so greatly it is ridiculous. As for the real true reason I jumped back on this Is I had a rough last weekend....dang who am I kidding I've had a rough last month. Business is a bit hectic, no time to do this that and the other and like you said...it was just easier to think that, "yah that stuff should be ok", "its Freshly made". RIGHT!!!!! I just realized on monday that I am either gonna do it or just keep making excuses for myself. I've done this once ....it worked for me...and I will do it again. I know I can do this! I hold myself accountable! Start...8/11------227 Today...8/14-----222.8 It must be working! |

Congrats on your 4.2 pounds!
I really do urge you to re-read the book. It's like what they say about road maps. You can probably get where you're going without one, but if you don't want to deal with unexpected detours and you want to get there faster, it's good to have that road map. (I guess these days it would be a GPS, but whatever. The point still stands!) |

Well I had an OK day...I suppose. Going through a bit of rough edges at home but trying to maintain sanity as well as staying determined to drop this weight. I kept myself busy enough today. House Cleaned...Oh so fun and went on a very brisk walk for 30mins. I havent walked in awhile so doing just that was crazy. It felt so awesome towards the end of it though. Had a nice lil sweat going on..lol. I gave myself the day off today
, from work well minus emails and whatnot . It was nice.Well here was my day in a nutshell....... B: 2 Fried egs...4pcs of bacon...2 mazzo balls Coffee...2splenda.....a drizzle of sugarfree/fatfree creamer S: string cheese L: ooooops I seriously just forgot to eat..... Hence the reason I snuck 2 of my daughter black seedless grapes.....YIKES! D: grilled rib eye steak....Oh so good...marinated in a bit of oliveoil and mccormicks steak seasoning. (2 carbs) Yummm Yummmm and Romain salad with cucc, mushrooo a bit of shredded colby and blue cheese dressing. and water throughout the day. I dont know how many carbs black seedless grapes are but I know that any sugars/fruits/sweets are not allowed during induction....and I promise myself I wont be that busy to forget to each lunch again. Well .......til tomorrow! I found a new featured costume from one of my companys I cant wait to fit into this sexy costume for halloween....teehee! I sell costumes, cosplay and lingerie. I just started on a low carb diet last Sunday. I was at 216 and yesterday the scale said 210.8 lbs ... so at least it is going in the right direction!
Your original post struck a chord in me. I was actually thin growing up but have steadily gained weight especially over the last several years after I had to undergo a back surgery. Unfortunately, it took being a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding last weekend (and seeing the photos immediately after) that made me realize just how much weight I had gained. I felt like my being in the pictures made them ugly... I also realized that I have avoided being in many photos (i.e. my daughters prom pictures, grad pictures, etc.,) with limited exceptions -- for the same reason. I just don't like the way I look now. My 20th annivesary is coming up in February, and while I don't expect to ever be back down to my original weight when I got married ... I would love to be able to take a photo at our annivesary and think ... "You look good in that"... I am determined to remain strong and have decided to adopt a new "motto" ... Everytime I am tempted to eat something that does not fit the diet I think "Is my eating this worth looking/feeling like I do in these photos..." So far, it is working and I have not had any major cheats yet! |

Today is the end of week one for me. Starting weight was 216. Today's weight 210.4. I am pretty proud since it has been a long time since I have stuck with a diet for even a week without cheating.
I had to cook for the family today -- they had tacos. I had the taco meet and toppings with no shell. I have managed to stay on track... but it is hard when I have all the "bad" foods in the house! Today, I haven't really been all that hungry. Still have a little bit of a headache though! Tomorrow, I am going back to the gym. I live in a tiny town and the gym isn't open on Sundays -- so I took a day of rest and read a book! |

Oh look at you!! Good going! It makes the world of difference when you see progress and it makes you determined to stay on track. I noticed that I may be going through ketosis. I have the awful metallic taste in my mouth as well as the breath thing. Ick! I also felt a bit naseaus and tired. I looked up the symptoms of ketosis last niteand those were all some of the symptoms of it. As well as headaches. That maybe where yours is coming from. Today has been good. I dont have much of an appetite but I know at this point you do need to eat to lose. It's hard though when you dont want to eat. Its going on 5pm here and I am going to attempt to make oopsie rolls. They look deeelish! So oopsie cheeseburgers for dinner. Hopefully. If they come out right. I had some chicken roll ups earlier. water. and I think Im going to make a pot of coffee. Hubby is wanting some. So I think Ill make a cup for me too. Also plan to take a walk around 7 get these legs moving. I will post later and let you guys know how the rolls came out. weighed myself this morning . 218.4 1.2lbs down from yesterday. TOM is due by tuesday so we will see how the week goes. No Pre Mens. Cravings though. which is good. K...talk to yall later.! |

The weight seems to really be falling off for you. I made it to the gym tonight. Because of a back injury, (had surgery 2 years ago but have continued to have problems since) I can't do very much... walked 15 min. on treadmill and did 20 minutes on the bike. Tried the eliptical machine -- but it hurt -- so I had to quit. I have been reading the 3 ingredient recipe thread on here and made a variation of the chicken and broccoli and used shrimp instead. It was really good and quick ... Took less than 10 minutes to fix. I definitely have the ketosis thing going. I have all of the same symptoms. I am having some cravings though. Really, I am a carb addict! After the first 2 weeks is done, I will have to start pushing myself to drink more water... |

Actually had a bad day today. Went to a lunch meeting with my boss and the only thing being served was fried catfish and ham (which had sugar in it) along with all of the regular starchy sides. I ended up having 2 small pieces of catfish, a small piece of ham, and then eating a small side salad. Entered it all in fitday and I am still under my carbs for the day... but still ... was hoping not to "cheat" during the induction phase. Oh well, tomorrow is another day...

Hi there ladies!!! Only read through the first few posts (gotta get going) bUT wanted to join in.. I ssooooo HEAR you about exes! I give credit to Atkins and LC for helping me to finally leave mine after 10 years (started as a teen) in 2006 I kicked him out after I lost about 30lb. It wasn't the weight loss itself, but I finally realized I COULD lose weight, and wasn't all of the things that a$$ said I was!! Good job to all of you!! Oh and after I dumped him I lost about another 80 lbs (20 have come back -thus I am here)
Just dropping a line.. I will chime in more later! have great morning/day everyone!!![]()

New here too
I've been jumping around on different threads, and like this one. I too tried Atkins in 2007 and did extremely well for 6 months, then I got pregnant, had a boy and before my 8 week checkup I was pregnant again!!! (now I have 10mnt old girl, 22 mnt old boy). I was trying Weight Watcher's, basically counting points without going to meetings, but haven't lost in a month now, needed to jump start weight loss again. (lost 26 lbs since 5/22). I started induction 8/16 and am down 4 lbs!!!! Just the motivation I needed.
I have my 20 year high school reunion in 2010, that's sorta my long term goal!! 180 lbs by then. But right now just doing it one day at a time.

My 20 year class reunion is actually this year, so I am too late to get where I would like to be. Regardless, I would like to be in the "1" numbers instead of "2" numbers. That's approximately 1 1/2 months to lose 10 punds which should be doable! Guess I will make that my "mini-goal". Sour peach -- Can't personally relate to the "ex" because I have been married for almost 20 years to a wonderful man who I love more everyday! BUT, I have seen my sister go through the same stuff and she has never even needed to lose weight. Regardless, her ex constantly hounded her about her appearance to the point she got down to a size 0 and had a breast enlargment before she finally stopped trying to please him and left. She seems much happier now (though she still has a complex about her weight which I think is sad) That being said I think that it is important for us all to be happy with ourselves. Right now, I hate the way I look and feel. It has been a long time coming but I realize that I need to make a change -- not really for anyone else -- just for me. |

Traveling was okay. Stayed on plan. Had the shake for breakfast and then a chicken salad for lunch. Weight didn't go up even though I technically "cheated" yesterday... but it didn't come down either. Everything is good on my end today!

oh those are so good. Well I followed a receipe I found online. preheat oven to 320 3 eggs 3oz cream cheese a pinch of cream of tarter (1/8tsp) You seperate the yolks from the whites add the cream of tarter into the egg whites and wisk vigorously til it turns very stiff. If it is still foamy or runny it will not come out right . They have to be absolutely white and stiff. like a merangue( dont know how to spell that.lol). Then once you finished the whites move onto the egg yolk. mix 3oz of cream cheese into the yolks. wisk that untl mixed and lumpy. dont break it down to much. it should look lumpy. you slowly pour the egg/cream cheese mixture over the eggwhites and with a spoon slowly turn in the egg yolks. folding it in slowly to not break down the egg whites. then spray or grease a cookie sheet and gently scoop out enough to make to the size you desire. They will basically stay the size you pour them they may spread out a bit. cook at 320 for about 10-15 minutes or until the tops are abit golden. I know it sound overwelming but it is sooooooooooo easy. the next time i do them I will leave them in just a bit more cause they werent as golden on the top. Hubby also grabbed whipped cream cheese so the mix wasnt as lumpy as it should of been but they still came out good. give it a try and post a picture of them. good luck! |
