Goodmorning ladies, can I join your group? I've been a long time lurker on your thread. This is a very supportive fun group.

Let me intruduce myself. I'm a 47 yearold mother of three(ages 20, 14 and 11) I lost 50 to 60 lbs 5yrs ago on Atkins, fell off and never got back on the wagon and regained all the weight plus a lot more. I started low carb again this past august and have lost about 42lbs. I was mortified when I stepped on the scale and weighed almost 300lbs(285lbs to be exact), this is an alltime high for me. I've been over weight all my adult life the biggest been prior to this was 250lbs.

I'm a very shy poster, not internet savvy and English is my second language so if I don't post a lot or post something that violates posting etiquette please forgive me, it is not intentional or lack of interest.

Lets all stay motivated and focused, we can do it.

Hi Blaze! Welcome.

This is a great thread... you're right, it's very supportive. It has been IMMENSELY helpful for me, and keeps me accountable. I hope it can do the same for you! And thanks for the laugh... "long time lurker". Ha!
Reminds me of the people that call into radio stations for the first time...
"Long time lurker, first time poster!"

What is your first language?

Hahaha... so, I gave one of my co-workers a recipe for that spinach/broccoli bake, and he made it last night. This morning he brought a piece in and was talking about how good it is, and mentioned that it's probably because of all of the butter... he couldn't believe how much the recipe called for. So I asked him how much he used, since for 12 servings the recipe only calls for 2 tablespoons. His response: "Yeah, I used 2 tablespoons. 2 sticks of butter is a LOT, though, don't you think?"

...um, what?

Come to find out, he saw the word "tablespoon" on the back of the stick of butter, and didn't realize that those little notch marks indicated where to cut... don't ask me how, but he thought ONE STICK of butter equals one TABLESPOON! I laughed and asked him how on earth he figured that one stick could fit onto a large kitchen spoon, and he said, "Hmmm. Maybe if you melt it? Whoooops."

HAHAHA!

(Admission: I had a tiny bite of it, and it was DELICIOUS.)

(And then my arteries clogged up and I dropped dead.)

Hi Blaze, welcome!!
I hope everyone had a great day today. I'm doing induction level veggies today, so back to my 2 cup salad for lunch and 1 cup steamed broc. and cauliflower for dinner. I cant wait to get off work, just a couple more hours. Although I might leave early, my neck is killing me still.

Maybe I should just go back to just having salad a few times a week. I dont get bloated feeling with that. I dunno....Im just not looking forward to weighing in tomorrow.
I know, Sorry, me to. I increased my carbs by a lot to try to get the 12-15 net carbs a day. Which I think shocked my system. Instead we should have just done the 5 gram increments, everyother day to start with, and then everyday after that. I know that our ACE is not 20, but the amount that we have lost previously. According to the little metebolic resistance chart in the DANDR book my resistance is low, which means I can lose up until I hit about 50-60 carbs a day. Then why arent I losing?? Weird. My brain hurts from thinking about it all the time! LOL and if I say the word Veggie one more time i'm going to turn into one!

Also, just realized that now for my goal to be met, I have to lose 8 freaking pounds by next Friday. Not gonna' happen! However, I'm going to drink a TON of water today, I have packed 2 deviled eggs for lunch and I made an even lower carb version of that spinach bake for dinner. (Will also be eating that for lunches on Saturday and Sunday, and lunch/dinner on Monday and Tuesday. Boring, I know, but it's necessary! Plus, I looooove it, so it should be alright.)

I'm really kicking myself for cheating now, lemme tell ya'. !
Well, I completely understand the whole Halloween Haunting thing...

Hey Jami!
Sorry to hear your neck is bugging you... yuck. Necks and backs are NOT comfortable problems to have.

About that spinach bake - YES! I made a lower fat/lower carb version... I'm going to eat mostly that for the next few days and see what the results are. It helps get some of those veggies in. Also, I found something that you'll love: an online RECIPE CALCULATOR!

Go to the Spark Recipes site, and then click on the green tab that says "Recipe Calculator". From there, you can add your ingredients and at the end it gives you a complete nutritional breakdown. SO HANDY.

Here's how I made the latest Spinach/Broccoli Bake - best yet, and really easy!

3/4 hwc
7 eggs
8 oz cream cheese
1 cup cheddar cheese
1 cup romano, parmesan or asiago
1 cup chopped onion
3-5 cloves garlic
2 tbsp butter
1 package frozen broccoli (10 oz, thaw and drain)
2 packages frozen spinach (20 oz, thaw and drain)
lots of pepper, little bit of salt

Heat up the butter, add in garlic and onion; cook until onions are translucent. Add hwc and cream cheese, stir until cream cheese is completely melted. Add the parmesan (or romano or asiago), stir until blended, put aside. Beat eggs in a large bowl, add salt/pepper, spinach and broccoli. Slowly add cheese/cream mixture, mix together completely, pour into a casserole dish (make sure to lightly Pam it). Sprinkle the cup of cheddar on top, bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.

Makes 12 servings.
(Nutritional breakdown below... only 4 net carbs and 250 calories!)

How do you ladies with kids stay on-track (carb free)? I've done this before with great results, but this time with older kids, post-Halloween candy coming out the wAzOO, it seems unbearable

One new rule which will help, I know, is NO entering the kitchen after 8/9pm. Seems almost to be a witching (binging) hour for me.

ANY other tips would be appreciated...
This is a very hard question to answer because I struggle here as well. Both of my kids and husband are tiny and the idea of a diet is foreign to them...of course, I remember a time when it was foreign to me as well. I have learned to just try to modify the things that they eat so that I can have a LC version. For instance, when I make enchiladas -- I use the LC tortillas. If they want pizza I get it for them and then make a LC version using the LC tortillas or flatbread. It satisfies my cravings. The hardest things for me are the breads, cereals, and snacks. I have had to just really think hard about my reasons for wanting to stick with this. For me, the straw that broke the camel's back was some wedding photos that I was in ... Now I think about how mortified I was when I saw those flashed across the big screen at the reception ... to me I looked more like Barney than a bridesmaid! Now, the motto is "Is eating this worth looking like that?" That answer is ALMOST always no.

all of the Jaws
Urban Cowboy
Grease (both)
Twilight (already have tix for New Moon)
Momma Mia! (my current fav)

have so many others, but will stop there
I love all of thos movies ... especially Urban Cowboy, the Grease Movies and Twilight. When I was very small my mom convinced me that if I would learn how to 2-step she would take me to Gilley's to ride the bull... That was my dream --- at that time I thought I was going to grow up to be a country music singer (long before I realized I was tone deaf!). Needless to say, my little brother and I learned to dance and we can proudly say we rode the bull and two-stepped on the floor... We lived in Pasadena where the movie was shot and I almost cried when the club burned down ... I had dreamed of growing up and going to that club to dance the night away!

Hi there. I do not really like the taste of alcohol -- so I am not much help. I do like an occasional mixed drink now and then. I have had a margarita since I started and it was not my friend.... For now I am avoiding all alchohol until I am closer to goal .... but I will have an occasional celebratory drink now and then once goal is reached.

LegalLady are you in the legal field? I noticed another member's profile name was LawMom and wondered the same thing. I only ask because I was a family law attorney prior to the kiddos arriving. With us moving so often (military), I thought it would be easier to just "stay home." Then I got suckered into homeschooling because we moved so much and because we like to travel... I am satisfied with my decision MOST of the time. Sometimes... well, let's just say I can understand the species that eat their young

Top movies of all time
1. Weekend at Bernie's
2. Princess Bride
3. Finding Elmo

My absolute favorite Christmas movie of all time, and we start watching it this time of year...
Christmas Vacation

because of yesterday's fubr, i'm not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh-in
Hi there. I am an attorney as well. I practice mostly civil defense work -- which means billable hours count and I am so stressed that I have blown mine the last couple of months due to injuries and illnesses. I am very grateful my bosses have been very supportive though. I can't imagine not practicing -- though my boss' wife made the same decision you did. For me I had my first child really young and then worked my butt off trying to put myself through school -- I am really proud of my accomplishment -- but I worry about the fact that I may not be able to hold up long term physically. That being said, I am also LMAO at the eating the young comment ... I had a fight with my 19 year old this afternoon -- in some ways I wish that she would hurry up and move out so that all the tension will ease up (hypothetically at least)... However, in other ways I am not ready and I don't think she is either. The problem is that she wants to be an "adult" at least when it is convenient for her ... but I am just not OK with some of her choices, and I can not just stand by and let her make those mistakes without saying something. It makes me sad and frustrated all at the same time!

Jake was SOOO HOTTT! I don't know if he was in any other movies though. I so wanted to be Molly Ringwald back in those days ... I was in love with Blaine in Pretty in Pink and will never forget the Duckie dance. And yes, BOTH! I admit it -- there must be a floozy side lurking underneath somewhere... In addition to my dreams of being a country singer -- b/c i wanted the cool dresses and big hair --- I also wanted to be a romance novelist ... still haven't entirely given up on that one yet either. And yes, I love trashy romance novels -- right now especially those of the paranormal variety.

Things That Make AJ Happy

Sleepy puppies, Painting on giant canvases, Christmastime in general, small collections, giant scarves, the smell of laundry and freshly cut grass, the end of a good workout, the way my dogs sit on my feet and rest their heads on my knees, 9pm (I LOVE that time of night), scouring my font library in the beginning stages of a new design project, autumn, and designing interior spaces.

This one needs it's own paragraph:
You know those days when it's been snowing all day, and it's so cold that the snow looks like glitter? I love it when that happens on a Friday or Saturday... the roads are all empty and the streetlights are on, and it seems almost eerily quiet - just sparkly snow and silence. I am the HAPPIEST on those nights... I could just sit inside my house, start up a fire, watch the snow and smile all night. *sigh*
Graphic -- this is such a beautiful post .... I know there are so many things that make me happy. Seeing my kids excited and laughing always makes my day. A cold day, with the Christmas tree lights on, and my family around me makes me happy... A peaceful Sunday morning communing with the Lord makes me happy. Winning a case that I believe in makes me happy and finallythough I am ashamed to admit it laying on the couch reading one of my romance novels makes me happy... Unfortunately, food was also something that makes me happy -- and I am trying so hard to cure myself of that because on days like today when I am miserable and sad -- I want to comfort myself by pigging out on all the wrong food choices....

I felt the same mortification when I saw the pictures mentioned above. I think until that moment I had been in a type of denial. That is one of the reasons that I am obsessive about the scale now --- when I threw my old one away it was like the weight ceased to exist in my "reality" even though it was obvious in the mirror and the fit of my clothes which kept getting bigger and bigger. By the way, your English appears excellent and please post as much as you want. Everyone on this site is extremely supportive and it has helped me stay accountable as well. Also, noticed you were in Texas -- do you mind my asking what part. I am in East Texas now.

Thanks MissG for your concern. Went to my family practice doctor today and he thinks it is just viral but gave me a shot and a Z-pack "just in case" since the weekend is upon us. Whatever it is it has kicked my butt and zapped me of ALL energy. I feel like my whole body hurts from my head to my toes.

You will find what works for you best ... and you will start losing again. I know you can do this. I do think that you were probably not eating enough for a while and that contributed to your stall. So while you may not want to do your veggies (and I for one cannot do them either) maybe you could try keeping your food intake at least 1200 cals a day and your carbs between 15-20 and see if that helps. We are about the same size and weight although you are a couple of inches taller -- while I am not losing as quickly as I would like it seems like after that first stall that I have been losing at least a little each week. Of course, this is just a suggestion -- you are a much better judge at what is best for your body -- and I know I am not an expert by any means.

OK I have finished my "novel" for the night ... If I left anyone out I apologize... here's to a better day tomorrow!

MissG, Have you ever considered food intolerances? Maybe your allergic to something that your eating? Im surprised that you would gain that much in a few days by eating an extra serving of veggies?? So far what I have learned about this diet. Is that you will lose a bunch of weight really fast. Stop, and then slowly gain it back. While continuing to eat induction levels.? Im frustrated as he$$ but, I am going to stick it out, hoepfully until christmas.

Hi-la-ri-ous!!

I've been trying to get the bf to let me put the christmas tree up early. He's not budging--yet. The lights make me happy. You know what, my little avatar makes me happy too. That's Juanita from David and Goliath Tee's. They have fun stuff. Like "Boys are stupid, throw rocks at 'em" t-shirts. No, I don't work for them. Just saying what makes me happy.

OK, new convo everybody. Let's think of the little things in life: What makes you happy?
MissG and I were talking about christmas trees recently. I usually put mine up after thanksgiving. Last year it was up the day after Halloween. My fav part about the movie is when eddie was dumping his sewer tank in the city sewer. LOL Typical!

*sigh*
What makes me happy?? Yes, going to bed early makes me happy. Doing something special for someone to make them happy. Kitties. I know what your talking about AJ. I'm from Fargo, ND and when you wake up in the moring in the winter and see a fresh blanket of snow, that glisens in the snow, putting on your snow suit and being the first to trample through it! LOL. I loved that. Now, I just like as a fresh blanket of snow..
The first cup of coffee in the morning. Holidays, especially christmas. Days off work. Getting a package in the mail.

i still havent weighed in... im scared im not eating bad... and yesterday was my *one month anniversary on my diet!!* but, i can tell my clothes are much bigger... yesterday breakfast/lunch was: 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and 2 sausage patties
dinner was: tuna salad (albacore with diced celery, green onions and mayo) on lettuce, with shredded cheese and cucumber. I also had a cheddar bratwurst (i think 0-5 net carbs, dont remember how many). SO my point is im doing really good!

Good morning everyone. Still feeling a little puny this morning but better than yesterday anyway. Have got to get out and go to the grocery store this morning despite the fact that I really don't feel like it. I absolutely HATE grocery shopping -- but it is a necessary evil I guess. Weight was down a couple of ounces this morning. Tomorrow is my official weigh in date and monday will mark my 3 month period. I am not going to make my "goal" of 30 lbs in 3 months but it seems like I will be closer than I thought if I can stay strong over the weekend. I also will do my measurements and take another photo to chronicle the progress I guess. Hope everyone has a great LC day. Sobby, we missed you!

I have that first book (red one) and second book(carb counter). I love that carbohydrate counter, its small and I take it everywhere with me. Yes, you are doing good! The only thing I would suggest is to make sure you are getting the 3 cups of salad veggies, a day) for induction. It will make the transition to owl easier. The book will help you alot, if you follow the rules you will get success. It has all the tools you need to get you through. The only thing I wish I would have done is to not have done the extended induction. I wish that after the initial 2 weeks that I would have moved on to OWL sooner, and started all the rungs appropriately. Now I'm paying for it with this stall. I had intentions to move on initially, I dont know why I didnt. Anyways, I'm rambling...

Hi Lawmom, Im sorry you feel puny again today. I hope whatever you has goes away. Fun, Grocery shopping. I dont mind it to much really. I have a thing about finding new products and reading labels. It takes me forever. I go during the week in the morning so its not to busy when I get there. I just hate spending all that money. Even though you havent made your 30 pound goal, you are still doing a great job! Make sure you post you lost inches, Im excited to see that.
Have a great day!! Talk to you later

hey girl! im going to get the dandr book today - i already have a great carb counter (dana carpender) so i dont think i need to upgrade yet... idk? but i would say with my salad last night, it was about 2 cups of shredded lettuce and about 1 cup to 1/2 cup of cucumbers. plus the celery and green onion in tuna. i think im going to hit the gym after work for 30-45 minutes. i have to be ready by 5:30 to leave to go somewhere, so by the time i get off at 3, home around 3:30, grab gym bag and get there, 3:45... about 45-1hr actually. i did everything i was supposed to. I just added some nuts, and small things... a tea or tablespoon of ketchup or bbq with chicken... ummm... soy flour. (im making sliced yellow squash breaded in egg and soy flour tonight) the soy flour only has 4net carbs per serving, and im just using it to lightly dust.

OK - Truth time for everyone else!! DO YOU DEEP FRY?? like - the 0 carb cheese that i posted about - the queso frier or whatever?? all you do is slice it and drop it in. i use canola oil. Am i doing something awfully horrible there??

ALSO - I want to hear everyones opinion on CarbQuik. I really want to try some of the recipes with carbuick, but use my soy flour instead... would that work??? idk who it was... but someone said that they thought they GAINED weight from carb quick?? i know a carb quik biscuit only has 2 net carbs in it... i mean as long as you dont eat TEN... does it really cause weight gain???

I havent tried the fryer cheese yet but I would If i could find it. Canola oil is really good for you. Excellent for frying. I really dont fry other foods though, although, I was wanting to make fried chicken by using parm cheese as the coating. I heard its pretty good that way.
I tried carb quick one time, I made a 2 carb brownie and it knocked me out of Ketosis for 4 days. I think I was obsessed about it for a week! LOL I know that some people do ok with it, but for now its something that I wont add into my diet unitl I hit my goal weight. I just dont trust LC products at all. I do splurge on SF candies sometimes but thats about it. I eat nuts and peanut butter sometimes too, I love peanut butter! Its so good. I found "Parkers natural peanutbutter" it has 2 net carbs per 2 Tbls.. I have those emerald 100 calorie packets, each packet has 2 net carbs. SOmetimes I'll have one as a snack or something.

Hey Ladies! Well, I'm officially in a cheat phase. Officially. Had McDonald's--won't tell you or you may start to consider what you can do from there. Just know, I'll be back on top of things come Monday morning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll have to start over but I'm a little busted and disgusted right now.

I hope everyone else is doing well and keeping it together. I'll tune back in soon. Miss talking to you guys.
