THANK YOU BOOMCKICK!!!!!! That link for couch to 5k download is awesome!!! I really needed something like that!!

I am doing better today! Not as tired. According to the scales I have lost 6lbs since Mon, but I KNOW lots of that is due to hormones/TOM. But hey, I'll still take it!

LOVE Couch to 5k - I did it last winter!

But besides that....I was kind of moping this morning since I haven't lost anything since Monday (I know, only a few days not really a STALL) so I started rechecking the labels of the few things I eat w/ Artificial Sweeteners and found out my "sugar-free" fudgicles have 5 grams of sugar (for 2) and 19 grams total!! Holy crap! I had misread & entered them in as 5 CARBS for 2!! So...away they go...DH can eat them

So...since my favorite "treat" is not as benign as I thought, anyone care to share their favorite LC (or non-food) ways to treat themselves?

I love a cup of tea (esp. Tazo Passion - very sweet tasting on it's own) or a sugar-free pudding. I am trying to really limit artificial sweetners to one serving a day (i.e. if I have splenda in my coffee - that's it for the day; if I'm going to have a sugar-free pudding - I skip any diet soda/crystal lite) and would love to cut them out or just use stevia. But...the occasional sugar free sweet does a lot for my morale

I have liquid splenda, and was under the impression that it has no carbs.

Is liquid stevia better? I saw some at the grocery store, but it was expensive. I cant remember if I have tried it before..probably have.

I can taste an aftertaste with splenda just as I can with the other artificial sweetners, though splenda is a bit better.

Hi you guys

I joined on 6/2, ollamo added my name but other people has joined so I am adding my name again to the updated list. I am on my quest to losing the battle of the bulge. I've been going back on forth if I should follow Atkins strictly or just low carb. I've been eating eggs, sausage, onion and cheese for breakfast the lat 3 days, lunch has been tuna fish and dinner has been chicken cooked in cream of chicken soup. I also had cashews last night. My exercise has included Tae bo, walking/jogging thru the park and jump rope. Last night, my boyfriend and I actually completed 60 minutes of Tae Boe, usually we only do approx 40 minuts. We both took a break during the dvd but we did finished the entire 60 min. It made us feel great. However, my scale just won't go down. I've been at 235 since last Friday. I feel bloated and next week I think I'm going to do a colon cleanse. I know that this is an earful.

Splenda (except for the splenda tablets) has .5 carbs per tsp or packet because maltodextrin is added. It's low enough for them able to put zero carbs on the label - but if you are adding it to everything it will add up! I count each packet/tsp as one carb to be on the safe side.

Stevia is a plant and there are teas that include stevia in with the other leaves to give it a sweet taste. That has not cals/carbs. HOWEVER - most stevia products (I'm talking to YOU TRUVIA) have erythritol (another naturally derived sweetner) added and have 3 carbs per serving

Mighty, I had the same revelation today. Well, sort of. I went out and bough my ketostix and they didn't show any change in color. I've been back on atkins since Sunday and usually by this time I'm in the deep purple color. The only thing I've had other than meat and cheese (and a few veggies towards the beginning of the week) were my tic tacs. So clearly they were keeping me from entering ketosis.

I'm mad at myself that I wasted this many days because of my stupid tic tacs. But lets hope that now that I realize it I can get into ketosis in the next few days and the pounds will finally start dropping off.

So Tic Tacs can really bring you down? I have got to get the sticks, I guess. I may be cheating and I don't even know it! That stinks!

I love Rhubarb, and I'm getting it right now in my CSA. I am going to start developing a rhubarb pie and share it on here. I haven't gotten the CSA yet, so you'll have to wait til Sunday or so. This is my first plan of action...

I'm going to make a crust out of almond flour, stevia (I use the liquid kind), vanilla extract and butter. Just a small hint of a crust to keep me satisfied... Not going to overdo it. I still miss the breads/crust/etc.

Then, after that I'm going to put down a layer of cheesecake stuff... likely just cream cheese, eggs and heavy cream. Refrigerate. Go to step 3.

Last step is to first soak the rhubarb, which in the past I just did with water and sugar, but now I'm thinking just water. I may sweeten the mix with a little stevia. After a while, put the water and rhubarb in to a pot on the stove and dump one whole package of jello in it. Simmer that without completely boiling for 10 minutes, then dump over the product of steps 1 and 2. Refrigerate. I am tempted to put blueberries or something in there, but know its a big no no. I'm calculating that this will have only a few carbs per serving.

If I can get some of those cream chargers, I will put whipped cream on the whole thing.

I'm such a sweets monster. I can't get over it. I came back right now to check this thread because I'm feeling SO ready to cheat. But I'm not going to!

Something I mentioned to my fiance yesterday is that after being vegan for over a year, and now doing Atkins, we can both really cook the entire spectrum of foods...especially veggies. I said I should be a personal chef! ha!

I roasted a chicken and i have been munching on that, for lunch i had cesear salad with chicken, and for dinner tonight i am having more chicken and a breyers splenda fuge bar. Late night snack will more than likely be more chicken and some roasted veggies. It is 1:56 and i have done very well today, no atkins bars! (although its coming up on 3:00 which is my trouble time). But i have told myself no snacking/grazing today!

And i did my exercise!

Boom, I googled tic tacs and it turns out it has less than one carb per serving which is 3 tic tacs. Less than one carb could be .9 carbs! Arg! I totally sabotaged myself. Oh well, at least I know now.

Ok, just checked on calorie king and it looks like EACH tic tac has .5 carbs.

I'm an idiot. What a waste of 4 days. lol

Eggs won't hurt you or keep you out of ketosis. Dr. A says you can eat as many as you wish.

The veggie carbs, and especially the sweets carbs, are another story.

Hey all - just checking in really quick. My 10 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow and we are headed to vegas. My husband has no idea where we are going. He only knows that we are going somewhere tomorrow for the day. I've packed a bag for him and hid it in the house. He's going to be so surprised because he's never been there before ! Anyway, it will be 12 dollars per day for wi fi so I won't be taking my computer. I'll try to check in with his blackberry but have never tried to access the site that way so it may not work. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll check in Monday night when we get back !

Belle, have fun in Vegas!!!!!

Ollamo, it totally sucks that you have to leave your boyfriend tomorrow.
I know it's no consolation, but we'll be here to take your mind off of things once you get home. Hopefully the time will fly until the next time you get to see him.

hershortness, congrats on the 4 pounds! That's awesome.

As for me, I'm not eating cheese for the next 3 days. I'm hoping that will get things moving quickly and make up for the wasted week I had *thinking* I was on plan. lol

I'm making a nice big steak in a little while and I'm going to cut it into thirds and have a little bit at each meal.

Menu:
B: steak
L: steak
D: steak

I also had some decaf coffee this morning with non dairy cream. The cream has 1 carb per teaspoon so I have to count a few carbs from that. I can't give up my coffee yet since it's the only sweet treat I get to have now. One small step at a time. lol

haha, you know me too well. I've fallen (into a box of cookies) and I can't get up!

So, here's my rant- I've taken to working ChaCha at nights now because it's so much easier to sit and get it done while everyone's asleep. So I usually work from like 10pm-ish to like 3 0r 4 in the morning. Then I go to sleep and get up around 10. So I went to sleep at 5 am this morning (actually went to bed at 4, but the baby fussed until 5) and at 7:45 DS's freaking teacher called wanting allergy medicine for DS cause they're having field day outside. He doesn't take anything regularly, so I was like What, Benadryl? Why? Apparently he sneezed twice Cause ya know, we all need to pop a pill everytime we sneeze. But she said he'll have to stay inside and miss field day if I don't bring some, so I have to drag myself out of bed, wake both DD's up, get them up and ready and drive over to school to give DS some Benadryl. UGH! So now I'm like, all up & stuff. And I don't wanna be. The baby had a meltdown in the car on the way home, so I'm letting her take a nap and then since I'm up I'm going to do the grocery shopping. Making my list now, trying to figure out a menu.

I need some too, AAAAAchoooooooo! lol, you poor thing, hopefully you get a good nap in today!

Hi, coaches and inspirational goddesses!

I made it 98 pages through the book I got yesterday. I'm finding out that my nut snacks aren't kosher, so I've laid off those. Went and got a single-serving whey powder thing that I'm going to formulate in to a shake. I miss chocolate, but I promise I won't over do it.

I made it through eating out at the restaurant with no problems last night! I am so proud. I had one drink (whiskey water) and then stuck to water the rest of the night. I can do this! The dinner I had I will probably try to make at home. It was a leaf of lettuce, two small slices of tomato, a grilled chicken breast, a slice of cheese, two cute little round bacon pieces (wonder how they made those round?) and mayo. I didn't use very much mayo. I got cottage cheese as a side. I know, it has some carbs, but less than fries or cheating and gorging, right?! I think it has 7 carbs per serving.

I'm going to cut down on the crystal light today after reading what you're saying here. I can't believe even a tic tac can screw you up. But you all are my coaches here and have done this before, so I'm going to take your word for it.

Today is my other big temptation day. My work brings in pizza for everyone on Fridays. I'm going to just eat the cheese and meat off a piece or so, then eat the leftover veggie soup from yesterday. Then, tonight's my bachelorette party. Big temptation to drink and be merry. I will try to keep it to a minimum and drink a lot of water. I have looked at the menu of the restaurant online and have found a few things that I can eat there (my best friend picked a PASTA restaurant...what are you doing to me, girl?!) I will either have the salad with grilled calamari or the Salmon with cream sauce. I had my Mom look too (she's also a low carb gal) and she agreed.

I'm looking at this week as kind of my pre-induction Atkins phase. I know there isn't anything like that in the books, but I was so addicted to sugar that this has been super hard for me. Also, its the week right before my period, when I normally crave sweets bad. I haven't cheated per se. The thing is, I have had a lot of things that I now know aren't OK, like nuts and too much of the crystal light. So I'm using this time as my kind of introduction to this lifestyle. I begin completely in earnest after weighing myself this weekend...probably Sunday (*exactly one week after starting the diet). I can already feel my clothing feeling better, so maybe I am losing weight. I have to keep better track of that.

I'm still doing the walks but have fallen down on riding my bike to work. Its just not convenient for me if I need to get home quick or leave quick in the morning. I will try to pick it up again next week when I have less going on.

Keep up the good work guys!

Also: a note about moving, ollamo. I have moved 6 times in major moves to different cities/states/countries. Its hard to see this now, but happiness is not a place on the map. When I moved to Germany from the States, I thought my life would end. I was so sad, I just cried and moped. Funny thing was, when I got back many years later, I never wanted to be anywhere but Germany! Now that I've grown up a little bit, I figured out that life is what you make it. I don't know you, but it sounds like you are seizing an opportunity with a job or something. Don't just see this as the job opportunity, see it as a life opportunity. Make friends! Join something! A club, a team, anything. Experience life! Live in the city like a local. Find out stuff even the locals don't know. I think that you will do fine. Mourn your old life, but don't forget that you can also go for a visit and don't let it get the best of you. Time will make all things right. I wouldn't say anything if I hadn't been right there with you in my own past.
