Hi, guys. I'm new. I'm in my 4th/5th day of Atkins. I'm totally exhausted, I'm ready to quit. Instead of doing that, I'm joining Low Carb Friends and vowing not to be a Debbie Downer. You guys look like a very friendly and supportive bunch.

The short version of my story: My wedding is in 31 days, 3 hours, 28 minutes and 12 seconds (but who's counting?!). I bought my dress in December. I was about the same size then... or so I thought.

I went to the dress fitting last week and realized I was having trouble closing the zipper, and the top hook was not happening at all. I panicked.

My parents have been on Atkins before and they have been very successful. My Mom is currently on it in preparation for the wedding. She's been helpful in the kicking butt portion of getting me on it, but I need that extra supportive boost.

I have never weighed as much as I do now. I am at 158 (I think?!). I would like to be back down to 135. I have weighed as little as 119 in the last 5 years, but that was hard to maintain. The reason I got in this position is that I tried going "vegan" for 1.5 years. That means I was eating all rice, pasta and so on...and no meat. I did eat a lot of veggies, though. I realized this diet wasn't working for my body, even if it was good for the earth and animals, and quit after going to the doctors office and hearing I had gained over 20 pounds during that time.

Some things I think I'm doing right so far:

The only cheat I have done was I had some wine with dinner last night. Before that, I have been totally good. I hope it isn't too bad of a cheat.

I'm riding my bike to work 3 times a week and doing a 2 mile power walk/run with my dog at least 1 time a day, 7 days a week. I sometimes do it at night, too. Its more often a leisurely walk. He's a big dog, so he needs at least 2 miles in the morning and night. This is saving my butt.

I am part of a CSA, which means we get lots of organic veggies delivered to our house 2 times a month from a farm near here.

My fiance is a chef and is on board. We are both talented cooks.

Some things I'm worried about right now:

Friday is my bachelorette party. Any suggestions on how not to totally mess this up?

I haven't really even read Atkins. I'm just doing the "don't eat over 20 carbs" thing. I didn't even know you could subtract fiber until yesterday. I just got some books the other day from the library but haven't had time to read them.

I think I will stay on Induction for the whole time I leading up to my wedding. Any recipes you could give me would be great, we eat every meal at home anyway and have a well-stocked kitchen. I am also really good at inventing recipes.

Please help, Atkins forum! I'm a noob!

BoomChick,

Congrats on the big day! and deciding to change your lifestyle, it will make you feel great! As for your bachelorette party, when it comes to alcohol, it is not something you typically wanna consume on induction BUT most spirits, vodka, whiskey, tequila (the ones without extra flavorings) dont have carbs, you can also find baja bobs no carb drink mixes for margaritas and the like. one thing i did because screwdrivers are one of my favorite mixed drinks is using the vodka and making the screwdriver with orange flavored crystal light and ice in a blender. it was pretty good. i have been doing this diet for a while off and on, its the only one that works for me if you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask me id be more than happy to help you!

Boom! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

This is a fantastic group. I'm pretty new myself, but you won't find a more supportive group. Weigh-ins are on Monday. Just copy the last weigh-in that was posted, and then add your weight to the list and post it again.

Sounds like you are on the right track, you'll be down to your goal weight in no time. Hang in there, and welcome aboard!

Hi,

I am following the 72' plan and have the book. I use fitday and dont subtract the fiber. I dont count calories or fat just the carbs. I seem to lose at under 15 carbs a day. 20 or more carbs a day wont cut it for me at this weight. I will follow the other stages as I get closer to my goal and become more fit. I completed a marathon (25 pounds lighter) last year and understand as I am more active my body will need and tolorate more carbs. But for now as I have 70 pounds to lose I am sticking with this as I know my body feels best doing it.

It is not too bad..I drink black coffee, a ton of water, and get carbs from allowed veggies not from fake sugar or fake foods. I dont have room for them lol

I may add the occasional half packet of splenda in iced black coffee when I am feeling a little crazy

I have heard of couch to 5 k...I hate running, but may give it a shot after I have lost enough weight. I find the bouncing painful.

The weight in chart thingy that is growing is the goal weight right? OR is that the current weight?

Its the current weight. Weigh ins are on monday, and that number will follow the original number.

So that it would look like

Wyte.....265.2......263.2

and at each following weigh in is appended thereafter.

Boom

You should read those books. If you dont have time then read everything you can here.

Anyone can lose weight on this plan if they follow it (unless they have a medical reason), but they have to know the reasons why they follow it. You must have an understanding of why your not eating carbs and why fat is ok and how to put it on your plate.

I think you will be looking fine in that dress and your in the right place for the info.

EveryBODY if different in the way they metabolize.

I like to keep stuff handy like tuna, egg and chicken salad in the fridge ready to thow on a salad or eat plain. Boiled eggs and cooked meats to grab when hungry (instead of fruit).

Keep legal snacks ready incase you have a snack attack

I always have a legal salad made and some legal veggies cooked and ready to go.

My fridge has tupperware with stuff all over, but worth it so I dont grab the kid cheezits or the bad stuff when I am short on time. I am only one with the weight problem in my house.

Today I took to work some ham and cheese with a little mustard rolled up and in a zip lock bag. One piece of cheese to four sliced of ham. No time for anything else, but the key is be prepared and know the foods to eat and you will be the hottest bride in 31 days. Being a cook your halfway there!

If your planning on alcohol be careful. Many people find they dont tolorate it when lowcarbing esp. if in ketosis. You dont want to forget your night! Also the hangovers are worse!

You can do this!

After a few days of doing this right you will get a surge in energy.....keep it up your almost there

Hey guys. to all the new folks, it's really great and refreshing to see new faces... erm.. names.. whatever. I'm sick of these old farts that normally hang out here! J/k (Or am I?) I totally am.... aren't I? OK, I'll stop.... (or will I?) OK, really now I will.

I personally cannot seem to channel my inner Stella to get my groove back. I did that one mile WATP, and 2 days later I can still barely walk cause my calves are so sore from it. WTH? I can't get DH back on board. He tried LC with me a few weeks ago, but the dumb sh*t was sneaking crap like fast food at work, then at home eating all the high fat stuff I was having, so of course he gained like 5 pounds. So he blamed the LC diet He keeps buying crap for him and the kids and it's friggen hard to resist. It's hard to get up the energy to do the grocery shopping, so I send him a lot. I'll be soooo glad when the baby starts sleeping through the night.

(Trying to smack some sense into myself)

Thats awful Riot...My DH isnt on the diet either...but he is supportive of me...he is eating what I make at home and then eating whatever he wants at work. He is pretty good at his portion control though and I dont think it is affecting his weight.

You need to tell your DH to stop sabotaging you. If he doesnt want to be on it, fine, but he needs to support you being on it. If he doesnt want to eat what you prepare, then let him make his own dinner (and clean up!!!)

Sounds like he is in major denial regarding how the diet works.

I used to drink 2 dirty martinis and a bottle of wine or so a day, wouldnt get drunk, no hangover in the morning.

Now i have a couple glasses of wine and i cant stand in my stilettos, lol. Then the next morning i feel lik ei have been hit by a truck -yuck!

OK BIG DEAL!!!!
, i need to tell everyone. I eat an atkins bar everyday, i have major issues staying away from them, and beyond that i know they make me regular... otherwise i have trouble going. But tomorrow i am not going to eat one. Nope, not going to do it. But what should i take to make sure i go?
otherwise i know i will cave and eat one. I am going out with friends on friday, and if i am constipated i will be no fun to be around, i need a BM everyday if not twice. Sorry if TMI

RiotGirl, my husband does the same thing with sneaking food while at work. All I ask is that when he is HOME he is good!!! And it is sooo hard with kids in the house! All their food, so yummy, just sitting there taunting me!! Not even junk, just nice juicy fruit, soft bread . . . . must stop thinking about it!
Hang in there!

So i finished most of my packing, i had been putting it off. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Still, sad though I have decided to only take one luggage and a carry on. Im just leaving most of my clothes here.

I woke up about 2 times each hour last night. I am so sleepy today. I think i am goin gto go take a quick nap

Hey kids. Just checking in.

Welcome to all our new members!

Riot I feel your pain. I think the fact that DH has been out of town this week has really helped me stay on plan. He doesn't eat junk but he buys it for my DD and once it's in the house I have no willpower.

Hi to all of you! Thanks for the support.

We are at 30 days, 5 hours, 18 minutes and 44 seconds til 3:00 PM on July 4th (my wedding).

I have a counter on my desktop at work, if anyone's wondering how I'm doing that! ha!

Things are going well today! I found out that my work, which gives away free soda, coffee and etc. also has boxes of Crystal Light packages hidden in the kitchen. I'm drinking those now. They say 0 carbs, so I'm sticking with it, right? SO SWEET!

Last night I didn't cheat! I wanted to cheat, but we went to Walgreens and bought some Atkin's bars and I ate one of those...very slowly!

I also worked out a crazy amount.

Walked dog: 2 miles for 45 minutes at 8 AM
Rode bike to work: 3.5 miles for 30 minutes at 9 AM
Rode bike to friends' house: 1 mile for 10 minutes at 5 PM
Rode bike home: 4 miles for 35 minutes (beat my fiance home on his motorcycle!! That felt good.) at 6:30 PM
Walked dog: 2 miles, but much slower than my morning power walk, because my fiance went along and we were chatting. 7 PM for 50 minutes

I'm hoping all this exercise will keep me burning throughout the day. That way if I slip up even a tiny amount, I'll burn through it. I think I had 20 carbs yesterday. I slept like a baby for the first time since starting Atkins. Before I was having nightmares and waking up a lot.

I also ate a lot of snacks, but they were all carb conscious. Jello, nuts (raw pecans and peanuts), celery and radishes. And the crystal light.

I do one cup of tea in the morning with eggs and bacon almost every day so far. I have been drinking a ton of water.

Today the menu is:

Lunch: Vegetable soup (handmade) with kale, celery, cauliflower, etc.
Dinner: Going out for the first time that I'm on Atkins, but luckily the fiance used to work at the restaurant. We made a game plan this morning. I'm going to have their California Chicken sandwich without the bread. It is unbreaded and grilled. The rest of the toppings are OK as far as Atkins goes...(mayo, cheese, tomato) and then for a side I'm going to have cottage cheese. I know it has about 7 carbs per serving but I am not going to get fries! He is being really supportive.

I know he's probably cheating a bit at work, too, but he's a chef. He also is as skinny as a rail. Its pretty hard for him not to have a taste of a sauce or try this or that. Last night we made Ahi Tuna with a spinach/kale cheese bake and that was amazing! I got it from an Atkins book I borrowed from the library.

I did get a book on Monday for how to start Atkins, its a shortened version called, "Atkins Essentials." Has anyone read it? I will read the full Atkins once this crazy day has come and gone.

I need to get a scale. I don't have one. That, or use my Wii Fit. I haven't weighed myself since going to the doctor a month ago. That was so depressing. I did take my measurements to see if I notice a change.

Thanks, ladies! Hang in there and get back on track. Its hard, but at least it is SPRING! And you can get out and enjoy the nice weather.

Couch to 5 K ladies: Have you seen this?

Podrunner: Intervals - Free Workout Music from dj steve boyett

Try it! My Mom and I love it. You download these music mixes to your Ipod or any MP3 player, and it takes the guesswork right out of it. You can also build up to 8K and 10K after you get to 5. There is a beep when you are supposed to run and a beep when you are supposed to slow down.

Sorry for the extra long post!
