Today was my second day of doing Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred (level 1). It's a good little work out, and gets me to the shaky failure point with only 3 pound dumbells. I am defintely getting her metoblism book, although it is probably the same as what we are reading in the Eades and Schwarzbein, etc... books. I had heard she is not into low carb, but apparently that's not the case. Her menu's do not include pastas or other carby items.

I am so tempted to try her online program. She gives you a menu plan and exercises for your body type and goals. It's $4 a week with a 5 week minimum. So I am thinking of going for a 5 week trial. But if I get her book, that's another $18. E-gads, does the spending ever stop?

I took a before picture of my batman arms today. I am going to use Jillian's tips to work specifically on the tri-ceps in addition to the regular workouts. I'm glad I have my husband to help make sure I'm using the right form. I should probably take butt, ab and thigh pictures and put them on the fridge and pantry. Heck, I could put them on the outside fence to scare away burglars.

What do you two use for motivation?

What do you two use for motivation?[/QUOTE]

All I have to do is look in the mirror before hopping in the shower!

I can see the firmness now slowly but surely in those ole thighs of mine and even my butt just by weight lifting and treadmill and that's what has me motivated. There are many machines at the gym that I would not go on at this point like "free weights" but something that I can aspire to. All I see are body builder men in that section but the trainer had me on a chest machine there and I laughed and said this section is for the heavy weights. He said that I will come to a point that I'll feel confident to be in that section.

I browse through Jillian's book you're talking about when I was in WalMart a couple of months ago. I think you take a questionaire and then whatever group you fall into the diet goes accordingly. I think even mine was mostly protein but also had carbs too and so I just put it back on the shelf.

Well today, here is my eats:

B: Egg Beaters and 1 slice of scrapple
L: Breaded cod, dz little neck clams, 2 wings, coleslaw
D: Went out w/GF: 10 oz sirloin infused with garlic butter, coleslaw and broccoli and 1 Manhattan.
Later: don't know yet

Went to gym before meeting friend and did about 45 mins of combo treadmill and leg machines.

Donna is quiet today. What's going on?

What do you think of this recipe? Not low carb - but lower carb.

Veggie Pasta With Italian Chicken Sausage
Ingredients:
2 small zucchini
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1 garlic clove, diced
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 pound cooked Italian chicken sausage, sliced into small pieces
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste
Instructions:
Using a vegetable peeler and turning the zucchini as you go, slice the zucchini into ribbons.
In a skillet, over medium heat, sauté zucchini in 1 tablespoon of oil until it's soft and the edges are clear.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in another pan, over medium heat, and add garlic.
Sauté for a minute, then add the tomatoes and oregano.
Simmer for a few minutes, then stir in the sausage.
Spoon sauce over the zucchini. Sprinkle with Parmesan.
Makes 2 servings

Annette-recipe sounds yummy

Motivation-evidently nothing since I only workout in spurts ...but if anything it is the mirror. I was looking in the mirror as I was going down the escalator the other day and thought I looked really good-just about right; then I looked at myself later naked and realized how much work there is to do on this old body.

Had dinner with Daughter, SIL and sweet GS, so I went WAAAYYY off-delicious salad that was ok, but with it came a sort of flatbread "pizza"-don't know how to explain it. Anyway, it was about the size of a large pita, very thin, with goat cheese and carmelized onions. I left maybe a third of it. Had a small piece of cornbread with butter, and two bites of SIL's apple pie type filling wrapped in egg roll dough, I think, and fried. Vodka and when I got home, I said what the heck and had a healthy helping of B&J's peach cobbler ice cream. I have NO idea how to write this down....

I didn't weigh today, and Sat. is a Red Hat gathering...here we go again on the roller coaster...

Annette: Recipe sounds good and healthy. I would try that.

Donna: ummmm - not so healthy but sounds even more delious.

My 2 restaurant meals gained me a lb to 141 this morning. Made myself a magnesium coffee tonic to blow it out. TMI..

After work, boss is taking DH and I to the new Casino in Bethlehem PA near Allentown - about 50 miles from home and 20 miles from work. Not bringing alot of money but it would be nice to win. I haven't been at Atlantic City casino for many years. I tend to get disgusted and quit. Like my diets....see a pattern?

Boss and I were practicing poker the past 2 days. I beat him badly yesterday. The day before he bet me by 2 chips. We did a little Blackjack (21) but I never liked that game as much. Boring.

Anyway, we will be eating at their buffet there. Can you imagine how "bad" I could get there? Plus, while you're gambling, the drinks are free. WooHoo!
So, tonight will probably be my splurge day.

I think you just gotta have one now and then. It's too bad with Atkins that it takes 3 days to get back in ketosis - not that I even know if I'm in it now.

Ketosis??? Hah! What's that??

Linda, I think its' great that you're seeing a difference already with your workouts!

I don't "get" gambling. We are only 40 minutes from the casinos here in CT and we go once in a while to a show. Fun to people watch, and to eat dinner, but what fun is putting money into a slot?? I have a friend who does it all the time and says he comes out ahead and gets perks, etc. but it is just boring, and you might as well flush your money down the toilet!! Black Jack, poker and craps take some skill, of course, but they don't build these beautiful casinos on the backs of winners!! Just my opinion. Lots of folks consider it their hobby or vacation. Not me...

We just found out that my daughter's baby has a very rare congenital heart defect called corrected transposition of the great vessels-basically the heart is backwards. Quite a blow, but they are told that he can live a good, healthy life-often this isn't diagnosed till middle age!

There may be some slight learning disability and a possible anomaly of the structure of the ear. Nothing is for sure till he is born in Oct. They are told the heart appears strong and healthy. There is an operation to correct it, which they will probably do, but it has been a long couple weeks for them.

He will be born at Boston Children's Hospital-about 2 hours from here-where they are well set up to take care of anything that might come up. So I guess all things considered, we are lucky. I don't feel like I've been hit by a bus anymore, and they are doing well, but you never think it will happen to you...
My little Maxwell is so sweet and loving, I just had to go over there and get and give hugs..

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that about your grandson. Luckily, medical science can correct this nowadays. It's better they caught it now rather than later.

Yeah, I know what you mean about gambling but if I win, I will think differently.

Thanks, friends. It's pretty devastating but I know they will do a great job.

I just did the best I could on ****** and this is what I came up with for yesterday.

cals 1995 ---would have been a lot less without the vodka, but I needed it
fat 38% ---isn't that funny?? Well, high carbs, low (er) fat
carbs 24% 119.9 ---hmmm, most people have more than that in an average day, don't they...
protein 12% ---wow that's practically unheard of for me!
alcohol 26%---

Where's the thing to change colors???

I ordered two of Jilian's books, the metabolism book and one on weight loss. I should have ordered just one, but I spent more money in order to get free shipping. Will I ever learn? But I am looking forward to reading both books. I watched the season finale of this year's biggest loser on Hulu.com (love free TV!). It was inspirational, but I wanted the 18 year old young man to win. The woman who won, won by less than one percentage point. And she used personal trainers to help her at home for the final weight loss.

yeah, like what my daughter thinks.

Your measurements look good. Especially your butt being only "3".

My measurements are so much bigger than both of yours... I measure my hips 8" below my waist. What do you do? I also measure my "belly", fully let out... (my habit of a lifetime is to hold it in, but it is NOT pretty let out)

You daughter can see your results, can't she??

I'd love a "3" butt, too!

Somebody brought in Girl Scout cookies. HELP!!!

Yuck! I never liked pre-packaged cookies. If I wanted a cookie, I'd make it myself. They are stale and full of preservatives.

I went to the doctor today, and sure enough, the weight is up a few pounds. That's what I get for playing around with my menu. The DVD I'm doing says I could lose 20 pounds in 30 days. But that assumes I am not fooling around with the calories and sugar.

Finished for the day, with tastes of cooky and mashed potato and vodka (well, not exactly a taste...)
cals 1902 uh, oh
fat 45%
carb 4% 18.6 gross
protein 24%
alcohol 28%

Well, I know how this is going to be tomorrow, so I won't weigh. I am just so tired of it....

Annette, you look great but you just don't see it.

Thanks, it's not the weight, it's stamina and muscle tone that I'm really after. And it's the handful of thigh and ab I can grab. I'd love to keep up with my DH when he goes on his walks, and go on hikes with our friends. I assume the weight will come down to match the muscle ratio - but if not - that's fine.

Maybe more than that is the apprehension that I will once again allow myself to eat donuts and skip meals and find myself back at 170 pounds. Maybe I'm overcompensating right now.

I took the quiz on Jillian's website, and the recommended WOE is 40 percent carbs, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat. I don't think this is a good fit for me. Maybe because the lower carb percentages are so much easier on the stomach and sugar levels. (I'm one of those sugar junkies that can't have just one Jolly Rancher - I eat the whole bag.)

Now if I could only get up early and exercise before work! I am so not a morning person. It was hard enough getting up early enough to make sure I ate breakfast and had a proper lunch prepared.

It's finally looking like summer here. Tomorrow should be 100.

Annette, you look athletic! From what I can tell, you do have stamina and strength. Your thighs can't be that big and I bet they have muscle tone from all your exercising. I love your quote from Jillian - made me laugh yep, that's her. With those ratio's of carbs, protein and fat - that sounds like the Zone diet. Sounds like she is a proponent of higher carb, lower fat. If you have an insulin issue, it may not work but you could try it. With her workouts, perhaps, carbs are really needed to start out with. Maybe I'll take the test too online just to see. Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, DH and I had a fun time at the casinos. Came out $160 ahead.

I won $100 on 5 cent machine after 3 tries and then $37 on penny machine after 4 tries. DH won on the virtual reality dealer on the 3 card poker table and he loves it. He feels confident that he could win more. The key is to know when to quit. I tend to quit and say that's it sooner than DH but he listened to me when at the end of the night I asked how we stood and he said $160 and I said that's it! He wants him and I to go on July 4th -

Now, for the good girl I was gambling, I made up for it with the food and drink and I am up to 143! This is how it went:

Got there and ate at Emeril's bar/restaurant - at the bar. Had large veal chop and Lobster Bisque soup. Everything is ala carte and way overpriced but it was good. My DH even drank a Kalula and Cream and a Comi Cozi on the rocks (he rarely drinks due to sinus allergy migraines). I had a Tangeray and club soda (so far so good, right?). Then I spotted the Sandman Port and had a glass with my meal. Carbs are climbing at this point.

When you gamble, the drinks keep coming and free so then I had a regular gin and tonic (more carbs). BTW, the drinks are so watered down - I didn't taste the gin so that was a waste of carbs).

After we were done gambling and hours later, we went into the food court and I ordered a slice of Pepperoni Pizza which I ate on 3/4 - the crust tasted like the frozen variety - definitely not worth the carbs. I've been hungry for pizza for 4 months now so I learned my lesson last night. At least if I'm going to splurge on pizza - get the pizza from Pizza Hut - known to please my palate and be done with it.

My DH had a petite filet mignon and lyonaise potatoes which he loved and I had a bite. They were good but I stopped myself at that point.

Earlier that day, I had a spinach salad w/broiled shrimp and Italian Wedding Soup - lite but there are little dough balls in the soup - more carbs!

Declaring yesterday a splurge day - nothing I ate or drank carby was worth the splurge. Lesson learned. Now to hit the gym some time today and drink lots of water and take magnesium.

Linda, where in the world did you get that I have a sister in Russia??/ Ohhhh, she's in Moscow, PA!!! It's now call Roaring Brook Township...

I caved to a pumpernickel bagel this morning. Not even a big one-50 carbs!

i agree about the carbs needing to be worth it. One of my favorite foods in all the world is French fries, and I remember giving a big helping of fries at a fair away, because they weren't crisp, delicious, and worth it. I was so proud...I'm pretty disciplined that way, but the bagels were still warm...worth it? almost...

Annette: I took the Jillian online test and it came out:

20% carbs
50% protein
30% fat

Since I crave salty and meaty foods, she says I am a fast oxidizer. Being a pear shape is about genetics of women bearing children and storing fat in the lower half and this being most common; though, hard to lose but not impossible of course with her plan. She recommends speed walking (4 mph) - 1 do 3.8 now and swimming (which I plan on doing more of). I signed up for her free newsletters just to see what she suggests.

Donna: That was funny about your sister. At the time, you didn't mention Moscow "PA" I bet

Making baked eggs w/parm cheese for breakfast, going w/daughter to see the wedding dress she bought and then take her to lunch. I have a day off today.

Sun is finally out here in PA. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Is it the "free weight loss plan?" Don't see a test as such. Found it-have to sign up. Not much of a test...

WAIT!!It has my reasonable weight as 229-289!! I'll take it!!

Since I 'crave" all the stuff, she has me at 40 carbs, 30 fat, 30 protein
