totals?

Of the daily food intake (induction), what per centage should be fats, proteins, and carbs, and what is an appropriate total calorie range?

What does this change to for maintenance?

Hi Ella,

I really don't know. Dr A never gave any ratios in his books (that I'm aware of). I can tell you that my ratios range from 70-80% fat, 20-25% protein, and 5% carbs, and 1300 to 2000 calories in the induction phase from my own tracking. I would think it would really depend on your own appetite and your preferences. When you get to maintenance, those percentages would change b/c of adding carbs. Carb percentages would go up and everything else would go down. Some talk about eating less fat at maintenance, but I'm not about to do that!

back in 2002 Dr Atkins employees were telling folk that called and ask how much protein was too much and how low low fat was that induction should be 65% fats 30% proteins. However it will be tough to hit that exactly with only 20 grams of carbs.

As we move ionto OWL and add more carbs we will be slowly lowering the fat % because your salad or sauted veggie servings will be slightly larger but the proteins always stay 30% so by the time you get to the end of OWL you should be eatting your fats in the 55-60% range.

How low your final fat % will go will depend on your carb total those who can handle carb amounts in the 100s will be able to lower their maintnenace fat% below 50 but those whose have average metabolism and are average exercisers will discover they will be eating over %0 fats at goal.

I read that it is 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs. That might not be right but I am pretty sure it is.
