Dang! We're a lively bunch! Too much Holiday Celebrating, Ladies? Thank you to Bella for getting us started with a new thread.

I'm bloated from too much eating over the holiday and munching at the lake. But the fellowship with family and friends was exceptional!

What about everyone else? Who saw some fireworks? Who set off some fireworks? Who just had fireworks while they were dealing with "family"?

Time to check in chicks....especially Connie and Vi. We're thinking about you two and hoping you're doing okay. Heck, even if you're not doing ok, drop in here for a comforting hug and a shoulder to cry on.

MITZ, Rita, Michelle, Jilly, Stevie (how were the NYC fireworks?), Bella and whoever else I missed............where are you?

Marla

I ate alot of sodium filled food over the holiday and I drank some wine so now I need to go back to clean eating to get back on track. I hope alot more people join b/c it makes this fun.

I'm in - REstarting today after a disasterous low cal, low fat "balanced" diet - I put ON 8 pounds in less than two weeks! Booooooooooooooooooo!

I continually let someone or some new book tell me there's a better way - but the bottom line is the only thing I've ever had ANY luck with is low carb!

So in the last couple months, I've dropped from 198 to 182, and now popped right back up to 190 eating way too many carbs, even staying at 1200 calories and 44 grams of fat!

So todays food was:
B=Egg Salad
L=Chicken Ceasar Salad
D=Grilled chicken drumsticks

May sound boring - but those are actually some of my favs!

Working on 8th glass of water now...will resume exercise routine in a couple days!

Good luck all!

Sandy

Hey guys!

-Okay - so I've been slumming somewhat over the weekend, and am back to being where I need to be...here!!!

Bella- thanks for starting the new thread!

Marla - I'm here as you can see..dragging my feet, but here, and at least not kicking and screaming!

Okay, guys...time to get back on track and ride upon the wagon (heck no...how about holding the reins???? ). I had a long talk with DA tonight, after we discussed our meal and what we ate. We actually did good. I had an interview that was about a 40 minute drive away (Exec. Assistant to an attorney VP at Verizon Corp.) and I realized tonight that it is not my ideal job. I'm a good EA, however, I think I would prefer to hold out for a position that is a little bit closer to where I live. Of course, that is the one that will probably come back to me with an offer. I found out this afternoon that the interview I went on last Thursday didn't pan out...apparently the HR person "liked me" but the attorney that I met with was worried about "personality conflict"....but I gotta tell ya...it was the HR person that I didn't "spark" with so I have to wonder. Doesn't matter now - water under the bridge - but still....it's really disconcerting to be out there interviewing and, even worse, having to be tested..that REALLY sux!!! Haven't done too badly at it, considering I've had no formal training, and it gives you a good perspective on the skills that you need to brush up on so it's not a bad thing...or at least I keep telling myself.

I was so stressed out on Saturday afternoon that I turned off my computer and decided to not go back online. It helped tremendously with the stress level. DA and I celebrated our 4th anniversary on Sat. nite at the restaurant across the street and it was nice. Had lobster & shrimp spring rolls for appetizer and a broiled lobster tail for dinner (mind you, I did eat the scallion mashed potatoes that came with it but had green beans too ). We had a small "disagreement" on Saturday night, though...something stupid- not important - and got it worked out by morning.

I got home this afternoon and started cooking dinner and it was "right"...ya know? Made the cauli potato salad, and we had coleslaw from the market down the street (made with Hellman’s mayo and no sugar ) and had baked chicken thighs with Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Yum!!! So getting back on track.

Anyway (Bella....you'll take an interest in this part) I had a long talk with DA...he needed to get back to work tonight and was hesitating in doing so, after our dinner together and an hour of Friends.. So I had a long talk about "crutches"...I told him that I had been using him as a crutch and didn't want him doing so for me either. When he wanted to protest, I told him to face facts..whenever we get together, I always give the visit with him as an excuse and eat whatever I want and throw caution to the wind. KWIM? Have a "vacay" like (at the risk of sounding like a Valley Girl). And it's because I am able recognize this that I needed to bring it up. So DA and I have come to an agreement as to our schedules...if I'm ready to go to bed, I'm doing so...but he's not to interrupt his workflow just because I'm going to bed. And I agree to let him know if there's something I want to get into, like an Excel Tutorial, for instance.

It's all about Harmony and getting used to each other. Dang, I love this guy!

Okay -so I've been trying to post this message all night and been interrupted several times. No biggie - DA and I have been working in harmony for awhile and then I got a call from my realtor - there's a contract on my house...for full price..and the gal wants it - even asked the Realtor t o"hold it" (which she refused). Almost sounds too good to be true so keep your fingers crossed. She had inquired as to internet services a couple of weeks ago and UI told my rep to tell her to check into satellite services and hadn't heard back. She told her agent that she wanted the house anyway, and if she had to change jobs she would...sounds promising....we shall see. Sure would take a load off, since my savings are now woefully depleted.

Sorry I’ve been bending your ears. but I've needed this time tonight to post this, let you know I'm getting the mind sight to getting back on track, and need to vent. Would you believe I started a blog but can't keep up with it? So like me...

Marla - Sounds like you had a great 4th! We went to friends in Marlboro, NJ and stayed the day there. Their son did a fireworks show (illegal in NJ) and stopped when the cops came by and (very nicely) said "it’s time to call it a night"...and they say that Texans are nice! These guys were SUPER! (Even after we spent about 8 minutes with the last of the fireworks when we thought they had left!).hink they didn't wanna bug us, since we weren't being idiots about it. Far cry from Texas....we buy the fireworks on the street corner (legally!).

to Sandy and KJ - we're nosy - tell us about yourselves! We are a good support group, some have come and gone, but there's a core group that is always here, and are always willing to welcome any newcomers to the world of lc'ing.

I'll start - I'm Stevie - newly engaged to Darling Alan (DA for short) whom I've been dating long distance for 4 years. I had gotten down to a 100 pounds weight loss...but gained in the past year - mostly my ignorance and cockiness and "I don't give a s**t" that caused it. I know,. like my dear friends here, that lc is the only way to go for me. But mine has to be in conjunction with exercise or it doesn't work. Have been rolling along now for 3 months, and I have had to recently remember that this is not only a WOE, but a WOL.

Must run - it's getting late, and time for bed. Big day tomorrow....recruiter phone interview at 11am, tests starting at 1:30pm in Hoboken, and then home to cook dinner...lc of course!

Ciao!

Dang!

Hey Ms. Babyphat (Can I please have your name? Something about having to call you that bugs me....)

Today I'm hitting the job search once more, and then that's that for the week, unless something really good comes through. I need to start looking at the paperwork I sent to myself from Texas in a huge box prior to the probate hearing next week. Might have to take some stuff with me. Not allowed to really do anything until I have the Letters Testamentary issued, but it might give me a headsup prior to the Hearing as to what I need to do after the Letters are issued. Need to do laundry too, again...it seems like that's all I do nowadays. I never knew a man that could go through so many clothes like DA does!

No clue for dinner tonight - will see what my local market has on the hot and cold bar and bring it home, since I'll be out until who knows when. I'm finding out that DA doesn't really care - he just loves the fact that I prepare it. Typical ex-bachelor... He just told me that so far he's liked whatever I've fixed (except the cauli could have been cooked a little more for that faux-po salad yesterday). I told him that of course he likes what I fix.....he usually always eats the same thing every week (has it delivered from his fave restaurants) because it's a no-brainer. Like the SHepherd's Pie. I told him just now "did you know that I can make a Shepherd's Pie using a cauli mash on top? He looked stunned and hten said "Interesting"...I think I'm gonna do that when I get back.

Just realized that I'm actually leaving on Saturday and I haven't booked a rental car yet so better get to that and other things. Will see ya'll later.

Good Morning everyone!
Well I am finally feeling better. I went to the chiropractors yesterday afternoon and my headache is disapating finally after a week! You should have heard me cracking and popping.....a few more times ought to do the trick.
Stevie~ it's good to hear you happy and settling in to your new routine. You will find the job that is just right for you, it's out there! You will find it, you are a persistent person and you will continue until you find just the right one. Hopefully your house will sell quick and that will be a huge blessing for you.......things will fall into place just as they should be, you'll see! My dr. did have my surgery all scheduled for the second time and I asked her for a second opinion, when she couldn't confer with the 2nd dr (he was out of town) she canceled it 2 days before and totally took her hands off. She had been doing more research, 0.03% is the ratio of people that have this kind of tumor. She said she'd rather just turn me over to him for my benefit....she is really good about that. It was a rough patch though with the waiting in between, oh my gosh!! I have heard really good thiings about dr. Byrd. He specializes in breast cancer it sounds like he is really outstanding. Denny is going down with me and that makes me feel so much better about everything. He wouldn't let me go down there alone....THANK GOD!!

Bella~ I see that you are going on an Alaska cruise....where are you going?

Mitz~ How is Pete doing? I'm sorry to hear about that job.......things will be great for you. How are you doing? Back on the wagon? Hop on!! Grab my hand.........that is so cute that Pete took Jake for a ride, I can just imagine that little boy in a big old helmet! I love it!

Patt~ how was your trip to the lake? Hope you had a great time!

Marla~ that puppy is so stinking cute! makes me want a puppy!! My dog is almost 12...he thinks he's a puppy sometimes!

Well, gotta run and get in the shower and ready for work. I made my cream cheese muffins and boy do they smell good! DSH has been taking 2 to work with him every morning. We both have them they are very satisfying. He has lost 10 lbs, I've lost 6. He is very excited and has not been tempted to fudge at all. I am going to start walking with my boss on our lunch hours when we can. I am taking shoes to keep at work so that we can do it spur of the moment when the weather is nice. It's raining today again, but if it stops maybe we can jet out for a bit.
Hi to anyone I may have missed, and welcome to all the newbies! I hope you all have a great day!!

intro for the newbies:
My name is Jill I am 46 I live in Ketchikan Alaska. I have been married to my DSH Denny for almost 27 years, and I have a DS who has given me 4 beautiful grandaughters.
BYE!!

Tuesday accountablity!

B = Bacon (I was in a hurry, ran out of time to make the eggs)
L = Chicken Ceasar Salad
D = Best shrimp in the world! Recipe below

Have a couple more cups of water to choke down yet - but I promise to do so - even if it means I'll be up several times tonight!

Shrimp with Ginger Sauce (think of the thick ginger sauce at Bennihana's)

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup onion
2 tbslpn vinegar
2 tblspn ginger root (knotty looking thing in the produce dept.) trim outter skin and dice into small pieces

Place all of the above in blender, and, well, BLEND! I usually hold the lid a little off and pour out any excess fluid. Split sauce between two small cups/bowls for dipping.

Heat up a little olive oil, stir fry one pound of raw shrimp until pink, throw in a little sesame seeds and seasoned pepper at the end - and wha-la!

Makes enough two generous helpings at 6.75 carbs each! Oh hell - eat the whole thing!

Yummmmmmmmmmm - I can't wait to get home!

Sandy

Hey everyone!

Well, went and did some personnel testing this afternoon. It was so stupid too! They actually tested me on WORD 2000 (everybody uses 2003 now, and I have 2007 on my laptop.). Before going, I asked them if they had a split keyboard and they said they didn't think so, so I told them I"d bring my own - it's the only kind Iill type on. They said "what if the job you get doesn't have split keyboards?". So I said "then I'll bring my own"...Duh! I've been using a split (ergonomic) keyboard for 10 years now, ever since they came out, and not going back to the old ones. Besides, it might just be what's prevented me from getting carpal tunnel after all these years. Anyway, took mine and their computers were too old to handle the hookup, so they found one (their President uses one) and it was old too, and the keys kept getting stuck. I complained about it...probably shouldn't have, but hell....get with the program! The only reason I went to this one is that they have a client that is in the next town (accessible via light rail so wouldn't have to drive hopefully) and is this side of the Hudson. Money wouldn't be as good, however, it's more convenient. We'll see. If they want to interview me before I leave for Texas, then that is the only interview I'll be going on this week after the one from yesterday. Tomorrow it's laundry, cooking something for dinner, etc. which reminds me. I need to look up something for either ground beef or chicken breasts for tomorrow night, which is what I have in the freezer. Tonight it's "smorgasbord" night - I went to the Hot Bar at the local market down the street and got a little bit of different entrees for DA to try. There is very little lc on that bar, I noticed, but made out with a little pork tenderloin (hoping the sauce isn't sweet), a stuffed green pepper and a stuffed cabbage roll (doesn't appear to be too much rice in it).

Sandy - that shrimp sounds divine. I happen to absolutely LOVE ginger and use it as much as possible. The onions that you put into the blender for the sauce - did you use green onions or regular ones?

Tanana - Not a hard name at all actually. Sorry to hear about your fibro - my cousin has it.

Patt - Those laptops DO take some getting used to, don't they? Their keyboards are a lot smaller than a regular computer. I have ATT Wi FI which I prepay for, just in case I'm in a place where I can't get service. It works pretty well. DA hooked my laptop up to a router in the apartment so I can sit on the counch and type away and not have to be hooked up with a wire (there are wires everywhere here anyway, since he's in the computer business, and they drive me nuts!). Glad you had fun at the lake. Looks like I'm starting to get back on track as well.

Jilly - I would expect that Denny would be going with you. You've been married for so long that he must be worried about you. Glad to hear that the 2nd doctor has such a good rep though.

Wendy!!!! Hey Hey GF!!! Those little girls are growing up SOOOOO fast! You'll always find us in the Induction room. THe Admin people have never given us the boot which is cool! You ready to rock???

Foxy - A challenge can be different things. Some challenges are for who has lost hte most weight, others are more for supporting. This group you've landed in is for support. Some of us have been here for years and we've become great friends!

I am getting back into the habit of not eating during the day which is not a good thing for me since I'm hypoglycemic. I do fine and then suddenly....WHAM! I am about to faint. Got home a bit ago and realized that that was happening and quickly threw a bit of sharp cheese into a Toufayan wrap and nuked it. Very nice! Those wraps are higher in net carbs but they hold up so nicely! We often don't eat til around 7:30pm (another thing I have had to get used to) so it will hold me til supper.

Okay - gotta run and look up recipes for tomorrow. If DA wants to come home earlier tomorrow, then I'll get some fish and let him cook it. I have no clue about how to go about it, since only starting eating fins a couple of years ago. Actually, now that I think about it, I think I was PM'd a good fish recipe by Mitz one day since she knew I'm not a big fan. Should look that up.

Will talk to ya'll tomorrow though. Ciao!

Stevie, that's terrific about your coming clean with Alan about what is necessary for you and your woe. I am really glad! Now what is your plan to put it into action?

I'm on a shopping diet I found a cute pair of Dansko shoes, copper/brown, sandals
with 3 inch heels. 50% off, to match my new outfit I have been putting together. It all started with a pair of Eileen Fisher clove colored linen pants- very nice (and size small!). Then I needed brown shoes as I had none at all. Finally, I thought what am I going to wear for a jacket so I searched to see if I could find the matching jacket on sale which I couldn't. (finally ordered it)
And this is all cause I had my colors done and learned I am a "summer" or "soft blended"
(65%) instead of a winter (I am 20%). Rest is rich and animated balanced. And, while I can wear black, my new rule of thumb is that I am blending not contrasting. So with deep brown pants I match the shirt such as deep rose, teal, medium blue etc and it looks fantastic. The other thing is that as I now got rid of the things that were not ok in my closet (not too much actually) it's a matter of mixing things up and buying a few staple pieces which will serve as the base. That's all good- but my budget is maxed out until August and my dh and I discussed it and I put a note on my computer!

Discipline!

Hope everyone is well,
Bella

hey everyone...needing support! re-started induction 7/7!

hi there...another repeater....last time I did Atkins was in March and did fairly well over a 3 week induction.....Then I went beserk on vacation....and threw it away until now! I faced a few small personal issues...and now feel committed and determined. I only have about 20 to lose...but boy, they are stubborn! I've lost and regained the same 10 or so for almost 3 years now...(since my third (and final!) son was born! A few yrs ago, I lost 15 on Atkins quite quickly and kept it off until pregnancy....That made me a believer in low carb...it works for my dh too. We are doing it together which is so...helpful.. Well, I'll enjoy getting to know you all in this challenge...best of luck and thanks for the support! Beth

Stevie -

Use half of a medium sized yellow onion - and feel free to cut the vinegar down by a tablespoon if you don't like a vinegar-y taste.

Just got done eating it! I'm satisfied for the evening!

I didn't really eat off plan for the forth but I had too much wine and sodium and I tell you my weight shot up. I been eating clean and exercising my bottom off and it seems the scale is not being friendly. I am so mad b/c I was doing so well and now having to start over. I really need lcf's to keep me encouraged so I can get back where I am in control.

Good morning all!
Well it is another dreary and cold day, although it is still very early it looks like it is going to be rainy again.
I did start walking yesterday during lunch. One of my bosses and I walked and stopped off at Subway and got a salad on the way back. Only bad thing about it, we are almost shoulder to shoulder with all of the tourists, makes it hard to get around and walk at a good pace. We are talking about driving down and walking the bike path......I just got off the scales and it has me up a few lbs, don't get it, but I'm not going to stress about it. I haven't been naughty, I've been eating clean and I can feel it working.
Stevie~ I like my split keyboard too. I find I mess up more when typing on other keyboards now after getting used to mine at work. We also have 07 at work and on our new computers at home. Don't like
