Ketosis Sticks

Hey guys! Just curious with those of you who use the sticks to measure if you are in ketosis....are they always accurate? For instance, the stick said I was in Ket. last night, again this morning, and not tonight...but I have had nothing to put me out. I noticed this last week as well.....they may say I was in ket. and than hour later not, than hour later yes....anyone know whats going on??

That has never happened to me. If you had lots and lots of water maybe that could change it. Why are you testing so often?? Either your in ketosis or not. I doubt it could change in an hour if your eating clean.

If you just had lot's of fat, or alcohol, it will show dark.... And once that passes through your system, and you test again and it shows neg, then it's neg.

Other than that, usually you either are or your aren't. Try testing first in the AM

read your stix box all it tells you is the concentration of ketones in that urine which in reality means the amount of excess ketones you had in your blood stream that werespilled out in your urine when that urine was made.

We do not have a steady state amount of ketones in our blood stream ao the concnetration will vary all day long if you are not over eating your Atkins. When our energy levels get low our Atkins eating bodies will ask the liver to make more ketones for export to the blood stream for body parts having mitochondrias to use as fuel. Once the energy levels return to normal the production will slow down until the body again says help I need more fuel.
cells that have mitochondrias can react the fatty acids themselves also and then move the 2 carbob part intot he same energy system that the 2 carbon part of glucose uses. so they do not always need extra fuel from ketonesduring normal use.

Also if you don't drink enough water you can have a higher concentration color on your stix even though you maybe peeing out the same amount of ketones

10,000 ketones in a pint of water will be a different color then 10,000 in a cup even though it is the exact same amount of ketones

I use them on occasion but I do not use them to determine if I am in ketosis or not. I judge that by if I am losing weight or not and how I feel. Also FYI you can cut them in half the long way to double the amount of sticks you have.
