hungry often

One of the benefits of low carb (and I'm counting on this one) is decreased hunger.

I've always had wonky blood sugar (hypoglycemia as a child, borderline high blood sugar as an adult), so that may have something to do with it.

When doing low-fat high-carb diets (like weight watchers or the ADA diet) I would be hungry constantly (like every 2 hours), I think because of all the white carby stuff.

Today is my second full day on induction. I've pretty much been hungry every 2-3 hours (mostly 3 though). I am eating to satisfaction and don't want to stuff myself.

I guess I thought the fat and protein would be more satiating.

I'm guessing that I have to wait until my body switches over to fat burning before the reduction in hunger kicks in. Is this right? (I'm already showing a color change on ketostix to somewhere between "trace" and "small".

What has the difference been for you between hunger levels prior to low carb dieting and after?

Thanks,

Dawna

Hi!

I was hungry for three days, already in ketosis, when the hunger stopped and I sometimes had to remind myself to eat..

I hope it works out for you, too!

Best regards

Induction is such a big change for your body that it takes a while to adjust. If you're hungry, eat - enough to satisfy the hunger, not gorging yourself - from the legal foods list, fatty things especially.

Don't worry about calories at this stage, only carbs. Remember, it's a period of adjustment. Induction is like doing a thorough detox at the same time as going to boot camp.

You'll likely go from hungry to having to remind yourself to eat, as the ketosis kicks in. Then after a few days of that, things will probably even out again and you'll have a normal appetite for normal sized meals (which may be a lot smaller than before!) and little or no hunger between meals.

Remember, adjustment. Listen to your body and let it tell you what's working.

since we don't know what you are eating to satisfy your hunger we can't tell if you are on track and waiting for your glycogen reserves to get used up and induction appetite suppression ketosis to kick in or not.

Remember too atkins is moderate protein high fat low carbs so if you eat too much protein you will not get the appetite suppression cause in the human body that extra protein will be converted to glucose for most of the amino acids and that glucose will evoke insulin which will swing your blood sugar levles and cause hunger.

so what you eating and how much?

Here is yesterday's menu.

2 cups coffee w/splenda (3)

1 small can tuna w/ 2tsp mayo and 1 tsp mustard

10 pieces pepperoni

Salmon with 1 tsp butter, 1 tsp coconut oil

6 slices hard salami, cream cheese

Easy cheesy chili chicken (3)
lettuce and dressing (4)

Instone pudding (2) (I know this isn't actually legal on induction)

10 slices salami

What version of Atkins are you doing?
where are your 3 cups of induction veggies?

looks like you had a lot of processed foods but not a lot. how big is your salami and pepperoni serving sizes on the packages since they make small and large pepperonies and salamis? try having a bit more protein at each eating since your "meat" choices are pretty high fat already

I had 2.5 cups of lettuce, and the chicken had a small amount of onion, red pepper, and tomato on it for my vegetables.

I was looking back at my day, with times, and realized the snacks just weren't working for me. I was trying to stick to the portion sizes listed on the packages of pepperoni and sausage which are very small. I bought them specifically for their high fat content (trying really hard to trust the whole concept of eating fat).

Thanks,

Dawna

good so now you know why you are hungry and can fix better snacks.

it would be better if you spread your veggies out more so you don't get a bolus of carbs at one meal.

remeber 1/2 your days allotment of carbs is supposed to come from your veggies too during induction so if you are eating the majority of them as lettuce that leaves you very little carbs for your cheese, meats, and sweetners.
