~ INDUCTION "Jump Start" CHALLENGE ~ May 19 to May 30 (12 days) ~

Please join me in a return to Induction + Weight Loss Jump-Start
BASIC GOALS:

~ Clean Induction (20 carbs or less)

~ Drink 1 gallon of water per day

~ Exercise Daily

~ Weigh & Measure (today) - and then not again until May 30

~ We'll post our daily menu's & daily exercise + offer advice and provide support & encouragement!

~ I'd like to reach 159 by May 30 (45th bday) and 155 by June 6 (Hawaii) !!!!!

~ WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS ??

per Atkins 2002 DANDR ~ Chapter 18; Page 196

The heat is on. You've been invited to a friend's beach house two weeks from now. But you're spilling out of all your bathing suits. Crying won't burn up enough calories to shed those pounds. You need a high-powered solution that will last a lifetime so you never have to repeat this misery.

Your problem is simple. You don't know how to start. So, in this chapter I give you some very specific information, and some very specific meal plans. Follow them to the letter and you will be well on your way to feeling good, looking good and being healthier. And well on your way to fitting into those bathing suits.

As you jump-start your weight loss, remember that carbohydrate intake during Induction should be no more than 20 grams a day in the form of vegetables and other acceptable food choices. In this phase you will be eating no breads, sugars, grains, potatoes, rice, pasta, fruit or nuts. Once your carbohydrate intake goes below a certain threshold, you will primarily burn your body fat for fuel. Be patient and persistent!

1 - Eat 3 meals a day (or 4-6 smaller meals a day). Do not go longer than 6 waking hours without eating.

2 - Eat liberal amounts of eggs; meat; fish - until you are pleasantly full, but do not gorge.

3 - Liberal amounts of fats and oils are permitted. (consume NO hydrogenated or other trans fats)

4 - Sugar-Free Herbs & Spices are permitted.

5 - Aged cheese is limited to 4 oz daily. (no cottage cheese or other fresh cheeses)

6 - Up to 3 cups loosely packed (measured raw) salad veggies each day. (includes leafy greens)

7 - Other low carb veggies limited to 1 cup daily.

8 - Also permitted (include in carb count): up to 20 olives; 1/2 avocado; 2 Tbsp Lemon/Lime juice; 2 Tbsp Heavy Cream

9 - Must drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily.

10 - Drink only decaf coffee and tea.

11 - No alcohol.

12 - Avoid aspartame. (can stall weight loss + bad for your brain ~ see Sweet Misery thread)

13 - Up to 3 packets of Splenda daily. (include in carb count)
(HB's Note: Stevia; Xylitol; Whey Low are good choices too)

14 - Exclude sugar; milk; fruit & fruit juice; flour products; grains; cereals; beans & legumes; starchy/high sugar veggies; sweet condiments; french/thousand island dressing; cottage cheese/farmers cheese/other fresh cheeses; nuts and seeds.

15 - When eating out be careful not to consume hidden carbs.

16 - Exercise every day! This will increase the rate at which you lose weight.

17 - At a minimum, take a good multivitamin w/ minerals including potassium, magnesium, calcium (but without iron).

Atkins also promotes the use of L-Carnitine: 1000-1500mg daily to aid weight loss. He says L-Carnitine can help break up a weight loss logjam (stall) AND help nutritionally deficient overweight people get into lipolysis and ketosis. He also suggests Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) - says he often prescribes to people over 40, usually in a dose of 100 mg per day. Says it works in collaboration with L-Carnitine (& Chromium) to mobilize fat.

HB's Daily Regimen:

* AM
1 capsule Jarro-Dophilus EPS (enhanced probiotic system)
1000mg L-Carnitine
50mg CoQ10
500mcg Chromium
100mg Na-R-ala (R-Lipoic Acid) - advanced glucose disposal agent
1 capsule Cinnamon Extract - for glucose metabolism
Multi-Vitamin
* I recommend taking all of the above in the AM on empty stomach w/ tall glass of warm water flavored w/ 1-2 Tbsp organic lemon juice.

* PM
500mg L-Carnitine
50mg CoQ10
500mcg Chromium
1 capsule Cinnamon Extract
1 capsule containing Flaxseed Oil; Omega 3/6/9
* I take the above in the PM w/ Natural Calm Magnesium Citrate (raspberry-lemon flavor) - the magnesium citrate helps me stay "regular".

Include fresh organic cilantro/parsley in your salads.
Cook with coconut oil, cumin, turmeric.

READY? SET... GO !!!!!

Sounds like a great challenge

how about adding a measure yourself too and don't measure again until the 30th so those who don't have a lot to shed or don't get scale numbers they want cause of fluid issues can see the inches of body fat gone for ever.

I'd like to join the program if possible! I have been back on Induction since 5/12/08, but this will help me stay motivated.

Doggz109 Plan:

B: *missed* Not good....I know....but I overslept and getting to work on time keeps the boss happy!

L: 2 double double burgers from In and Out, protein style, no sauces

D: beef stir fry w onion, brocolli, peppers

S: not sure....maybe some cheese slices

Weight: 351.0

On a side note......what is in an egg cream? That just sounds good to me.

Hey Doggz! Love your name - I have 4 dawgs!

LOL ~ No worries, I missed breakfast today, too - I got busy w/ work this AM and never got to it - I still haven't eaten so I'm heading over to get my Fasting Cholesterol Test done (finally!) - why not, right??

We will BOTH do better tomorrow!

But oh boy I am HUNGRY and cannot wait to get home and eat Lunch!

Here you go, this is my Recipe. I find that I MUST add coconut oil AND protein powder or I just don't stay full on an EC as a meal replacement.

HB's Favorite Breakfast ~ Egg Cream Frappuccino

3 organic free-range/cage-free eggs (fresh!)
8 oz coffee (brewed strong & chilled overnight - or you can make & use coffee ice cubes!)
1 or 2 scoops Jay Robb's whey protein powder (chocolate or vanilla or strawberry)
splash of Torani or DaVinci SF syrup (french vanilla or chocolate or any flavor you like!)
2 Tbsp organic heavy cream
2 Tbsp organic extra virgin coconut oil (melted in microwave)

blend/froth eggs first; add cream and blend/froth again
(makes it fluffy!)
add the rest of the ingredients in the order above; add melted CO last

Enjoy!

There are a ZILLION yummy other recipes posted here:
*Slim & Sexy by Memorial Day* *Egg Cream Challenge*
But stay away from the SF jello & SF diet sodas (aspartame)

Have fun!

Hey gutbgone! I was hoping you'd come over here and join me & Doggz - yay!

Your menu looks good! I love asparagus - it's one of those 'best bang for your buck' veggies! It's on my list of "Best Fiber to Carb Ratio Veggies":

asparagus
cabbage
mustard greens (I sauté w/ bacon drippings & garlic - yum!)
broccoli
lettuce
endive
escarole
cucumbers
pickles
roma tomatoes (less carbs than other tomatoes)

For my sweet tooth, I usually make Coconut Bark or Cream Cheese Clouds. If you want, I will post the recipes later...

Count me in!!! I need to get back with the program! I was down to my signature weight for a couple of days, then we went on our first camping trip for the season and I could not resist the smores...... which lead to a 5 day eating spree I am now back on induction for awhile. Today is day one, I weighed in at 179.0 this morning I am hoping to make it back to 169 quick, I felt much better at that weight.

My menu so far today: 2 scrambled eggs
1 T. one carb ketchup
3 pieces bacon

Lunch
1 chicken breast
cucumber and ranch dressing

snack
2 hb eggs
1t. mayo
1 string cheese

Thanks for the link to recipes, no, I didn't know about them! As I said, I did lc two years ago successfully, and I maintained the loss but I did it very uncreatively! This go-round I need to develop a larger repertoire of foods so that I don't die of boredom! Yes, food is my friend. I work on seeing food as sustanence, not company! The biggest problem for me is that I don't have lots of time for preparation. But I will do whatever I must do to make this work for me. Thanks hummingbird, for starting this today! And for all the suggestions. I will SUCCEED !

Hey Miss HB...it's ME!

alright...i'm using my somersize name...crazymomof3...so fitting for my life...LoL...okay so do we do this like bet c's site and list out our menu's or what?! since i noshed on PIZZA today...i cheated a little but stayed Atkins Induction friendly the rest of the day! Now, for another question...i read your rules through twice...and, after completing my Atkins lessons it looks like i'm a little confused...it says 3 CUPS a day of leafy veggies...i just make sure i get 12-15grams of veggie net carbs a day (within the 20 net allowance)...is it still okay to do it this way? let me know and i'll post my menu after supper...thanks, Lady!

Aloha & Welcome to all of the new Butterflies!!

I look forward to sharing our journey of transformation from caterpillar to butterfly!

Timeless symbols of resurrection and release, butterflies are depicted on ancient Egyptian Tombs and on the walls of Polish concentration camps; live butterflies grace the cells of modern Chinese prisons. All speak to a connection expressed by the Greeks, who chose the same word, psyche, for both butterflies and the soul.

I just got home ~ I need to go get my exercise in NOW ~ then Dinner ~ then I will return to answer all questions and post my menu for the week. You may post daily or weekly ~ your choice. I'm going to start off with posting my weekly menu (so that I have it PLANNED) then I will post daily to stay accountable!

I am soooo excited! I have so many things to share with my Butterflies! And I look forward to hearing all of your ideas & suggestions too! We will journey & learn together and help support & encourage each other.

For those that are truly committed to changing the composition of your body; protecting your metabolism (or revving it back up!); and changing your thoughts & changing your life ~

(and I hope that is ALL of you!)

~ we will continue well past May 30 as we evolve our WOE together, step by step. Atkins will always be at the base of our WOE, but we will learn and do other interesting things too, together!

I'm no expert, not a nutritionist, or gym trainer, nor a doctor or anything like that ~ I'm just another Butterfly that stumbled on to Low Carb Life and discovered amazing & simple ways to make this lifestyle work for me.
So many generous people have shared their knowledge with me ~ I want to share the knowledge + keep on learning! I'm just beginning to synthesize it all...and happy to find some kindred spirits to share the journey!
