Hey Willy!

I use sunflower seeds (the shelled ones & they are cheap) as well and also almonds are a good bet too!

Good luck with the fat fast.... im anxious to see your results!

I would also encourage you to switch to pepsi one to get your soda fix because it has no aspartame.

hey ya'll, i was just searching on the fat fast on the board cause i gotta lose about 20-30 before august 1st. fat fast worked for me in the past and i have 2 weeks off from school/work so i need something to do..so i figure i can cook these interesting recipes for fun, lose weight, etc. it's a win win.

now, where in the world can i find the cheesecake cup recipes and those other recipes at the start of the list? i have often wondered this but was never certain.

sweetestdork, you are so pretty and i love your name! i too am a major dork, i am in law school and always have my head in a book. you have some great results and i must say i love your menu, am especially interested in this low carb ice cream variation...although you say you dont recommend it...i hope they still make low carb ice cream...

also i do not care what any naysayers say about the health consequences, etc. there have never been any for me, i am healthy as a horse, and i have done low carb for years on and off...it is the only thing i lose fat on.

The lack of protein is a lame argument. Hell i did the water fast for 16 days with NO protein and im doing just fine, im still alive!! If it was about lack of protein then why does Dr A say that people who ARE metabolically challenged can do the fat fast safely? arent THEY doing without protein? So YOU tell me what the danger is.

YOU have an issue with everything i post on here from eating the frankfoods to doing the fat fast.... is it because it WORKS FOR ME and that upsets you?
You have lumped to different topics into one but since you ask i will reply toboth issues here
if you go read the OP for the frankenfood topic it clearly asks for explainations of why eating it for induction is wrong. nothing to do with what works for you or doesn't work for you.

what I objected to in this topic is with no knowledge of previous medical history, medications, nor what if any issues this person has had with their atkins food intake to this point ( for all we know the 300+ pounder has been overeating their induction resulting in slower weight loss) telling them

In fact on the modified fat fast you can do it longer than the 3-5 days recommended for the regular fat fast. Youre gonna do just fine!
when Dr Atkins a trained cardiologist who created the plan and used it on his patients for over 10 yrs in medical practice has said unless they meet the quailfications he laid out they are not going to do just fine on the fat fast.

if you want to discuss glucogenesis which is the process folk who low carb use to generate the glucose the human body needs regardless of what eating plan they are on I will be happy to discuss those sources of protein organ and muscle that bodies not getting it through diet use.

Actually MsBlondeGRIT nobody here is disputing low carb dieting as it is very healthy especailly the Atkins plan.

congrats I wasn't sure if you were 300 pounds before or after you lost the 16 pounds. As a former 300+ pounder I know the expectation you are feeling wating to see twoterville again.

Since you are insulin resistant did you read in DANDR that continuing to eat induction will assit your metabolism to heal your resistance?

perhaps right there in that innocuous little post, lies your problem.

Hey MsBlonde!! Good luck with the law school!! And thank you for the kind comment, youre very pretty yourself

As for the low carb ice cream i could only find them at safeway under the lucerne brand and they have 3 carbs per bar. They are vanilla with the chocolate shell on the outside and they are soooooo yummy!! I dont see why you couldnt incorporate them into the fat fast considering the fat content.

And thank you for understanding where im coming from, its nice to feel understood! Good luck with your fat fast!!

2big, YOU say its wrong for induction and then you guys criticize the website because it goes against what YOU believe.

Isnt this entire message board about people exchaning ideas of what works and doesnt work for each of us?? You need to have medical background and science background to share this information now? I dont need to be a trained cardiologist to share what happens with me.

And yet again I ask you..... what about the "approved" metabolic resistant people who are "OK" to do the fat fast..... arent THEY going without protein themselves??

1. A normal, healthy person with a normal, healthy metabolism is going to be able to lose weight safely and simply through induction, followed in due time by OWL, pre-maintenance, and maintenance.

2. A metabolically resistant person is NOT going to lose weight through induction. FOR THESE PEOPLE ONLY, Dr. A gives the option of the Fat Fast. He clearly states that it is DANGEROUS for people who do NOT fit in this group.

Personally, when someone I trust and respect tells me to do one thing and someone on a random message board with no credentials tells me to do the opposite, I'm gonna go with the guy with the proven track record.

I'm just nutty like that.

I really don't think anyone is telling anyone what program to do. I understood this to be the thread before the fat fast challenge and I'm in here because I needed ideas. Not someone to tell me what I should eat and what I shouldn't.

I'm going to do the program that works FOR me.

None of us have the power to stop anyone here from eating any way they want.

What you are seeing is people of strong opinion posting said opinion with whatever facts, ideas, theories, or beliefs they can produce to back up such opinions.

Everyone reading this is free to look at what's posted and do what seems most sensible to them.

One thing, you are not SHARING you are RECOMMENDING, huge difference especially when you know nothing about the people who want to do it. You do not know they are in fact metabolically resistant, they could very well be just fine and can do some real damage to their bodies and weight loss plans if they do take your advice.

No one here is telling you NOT to do it, but past experiences with people who have done dangerous things in their search for dramatic weight loss makes a lot of the knowledgeable people here VERY uneasy.

We are all adults and perfectly capable of making our own decision about our own bodies, but I would NOT want someone to follow your advice or meal plans without being warned about the dangers of it... when THAT happens, people are free to make an EDUCATED decision.

So be prepared, if you tout Atkins in your profile, maybe you should be clear and change it to ANA so people who DO want to follow the Dr's Plan and not ANA's will not be confused and end up messing up by following your 'I did it and lived' advice you are so free with.

it what makes it UNSAFE for "normal" people is the lack of protein then what makes it "SAFE" for ANYONE?? Can you please answer that question?

I am in NO WAY telling anyone what to eat, just offering ideas and suggestions as everyone else does on this board!

Sure.

If I am doing Atkins and losing weight at a reasonable rate, doing a fat fast is going to be a "crash diet" for me - it's going to cause my weight loss to increase to levels that are not safe.

If a metabolically resistant person does Atkins, they won't lose weight. Their metabolism has been damaged and this is the "fix" Dr. A. found works.

Another example is that a non-diabetic can shoot insulin into themselves if they really want to, but it's extremely dangerous because they are NOT diabetic.

A non-metabolically resistant person can do a fat fast (or two or three) if they want to, but it's dangerous because they are NOT metabolically resistant.

This is an Atkins induction forum. As such, nuts are never allowed. I'd be leery of folks trying to sell nuts in induction.

The approved metobolic resistant people are a very very small percent of the population and they are coming off doing 14 days of eating induction so they have an adequate protein storage supply for the first 3 days in their organs, then the body moves to the protein stores in muscles which should last a few more days. After that they too ( no where in DR ATKINS writing does he say do the fat fast for a long period of time) will be using up their organ and muscle tissues as the location for the amino acids needed for glucogenesis to supply glucose for those body parts like redblood cells that can not metabolize fatty acids nor ketones and to maintain the blood sugar levels in tolerable ranges. Since this cannabalism is going on the body will also produce chemicals to slow down the metabolism to lessen the amount of glucose energy needed.

if you read Dr Atkins writings on the fat fast he felt this was okay for those patients who could not lose ANY other way. And those folk who are about to start if you read chapter 20 of DANDR have just tried induction WITH the additional supplement recomended for insulin resistant folk, seen their doctors for tests to determine that they do not have a medical condition, are on medications that inhibit weight loss, nor suffering from candida infestation and have not lost weight, so they truely are the 1% of the population who are so ressitant Atkins will not work for them, not somebody wanting quicker weight loss then they were already getting. Nor will they be doing for a long period of time.

Diet soda acyually contains .1 carbs for every 8 ounces due to caramel coloring. I've written the Coca- Cola company and have asked them. And really. Who drinks only 8 ounces? I was drinking over a 2 litre of the stuff a day!

As well, aspartame is a known staller of 25% of all people who use the beverage. I am with 2big and others who recommend nixing the stuff. It's a neurotoxin that has caused part of my face to go numb through years of use.

As someone who started out at over 350 pounds, don't worry about slower losses! Atkins works, and it works well. No need to worry about fat fasting. You've just begun your journey and are nowhere near a fat fast realm of necessity!

Hang in ther OP, kick the diet sodapoisons, exercise and be strong! I'm here for you if you need a voice whose been there.

Yes. This is why we low carbers have to defend Dr. Atkins to the death. His original plan has been butchered by all those who choose "to do it their way", and then later proclaim Atkins didn't work for me.
