i feel like i am eating more than everyone on here too.
[/quote]I'm very curious --- For those of you counting calories: how many calories do you get in average per day? I started using Fitday, and seems to be very helpful. Especially if I enter the food before I plan to eat it. In the past two weeks I started doing South Beach, but modified it towards Atkins, and it did not work out at all! Bad bad idea. I think I had too much protein and too little fat, in addition to getting about 30 carbs per day. Now I'm doing pure Atkins. Today I have even been able to stay away from nuts. |

At the risk of getting yelled out, I found for the past week I have been @ 800 - 1000 calories...but that is because my appetite is absolutely GONE. I went to dinner tonight with the man and had some antipasti (seriously...like 1.5 rolls of prosciutto, two thin slices of roasted red pepper, two thin slices of marinated eggplant, a little bit of cheese)...then a seafood salad with chilled calamari and shrimp and felt just about ready to burst. And I was really hungry because I forgot my snack today.

I can't believe I was able to resist spaghetti and yummy chocolate cake (two of my favorites!). I feel so proud haha. Knowing that I've lost weight these past couple of days (even if it's water weight) helped me resist these. Anyone else having some type of temptations around? I am so excited to weigh myself tomorrow lol. It'll be my 5th day.
It seems like everyone is doing well. Good job ladies! |

chinese food cream cheese wonton
i found my new fave snack today!
I crumbled up some regular pork rinds and then took about a tablespoon or more of cream cheese and mixed it together. i swear it tastes like those fried cream cheese wontons or rangoons, whatever you call them at the chinese restaurant. mm mm. might try somethhing to fry them up or something. but, i thought they were delish as is. I weighed in today (the start of my 3rd day) and only lost .6 lbs.
It sounds like you all have lost a lot at least in the first couple days. Could I be doing something wrong? I lost 2 lbs the first day, which was good. I've been tracking my carbs and did have 20.5 (according to my probably inaccurate calculations) as opposed to 16 the first day. My only carbs have been veggies (mushrooms, yellow/red peppers, onions, spinach, lettuce, celery), cheese, and dressings. I know I'm probably worried over nothing, but it just seems weird to not lose much the first days when everyone one else seems to. |

are you drinking enough water? Also, remember the first few days are just water weight loss, the real fat loss starts after that. And, the old hands will be along soon to help you out further. So, if you want to get a quicker response once they do, you should go ahead post what you have been eating in a menu form. list what you had and how much for:
breakfast: lunch: snacks: dinner: and what you have been drinking and how much. they can tell you if you are eating right for induction. Annnnd, if you lost 2 pounds already, WOO HOO. also, be sure to measure yoruself. I am only on day 2 of induction...however, i have been stalking these forums for 2 weeks getting ready for this new lifestyle change. And, what I have read so far is to not get SOOOO caught up with the scales (especially daily, most encourage once a week or once every 5 days), but, to also keep up with your measurements. Because sometiems the inches fall of but not the weight. Progress is progress! Also, weight loss during induction is mostly up to how much overall weightloss you have to lose. If you only have 20 pounds to lose, you may only lose 2 pounds during induction. If you have more to lose, you will probably lose more during induction. It is all relative. You can check out you tube for 'living la vida low carb'. it is a married couple that have great episodes all abotu eating low carb. Best of luck to you!!!! ![]() |

wow, thanks for such a great response and encouragement mamaguck! all that you said makes complete sense. i know i shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but i couldn't help it.
i am drinking more water than usual, but i haven't been able to keep track very well down to the oz, b/c i just fill a glass up with the Brita every so often. i'll try to do better with that. you're right, i should have posted my menus, but i felt a little self-conscious of it before. stupid, i guess. ok, here goes - 1st day: b: 3 eggs scrambled with 2 tbsp salsa s: 3/4oz cheddar cheese, 5 turkey pepperonis l: 2 cup greens w/1 cup mushrooms/onions and 2tbsp Ken's Lite Italian** s: 1 c celery w/ 2 tbsp cream cheese, 1 oz gouda d: 8 oz corned beef and 1 cup cabbage (cooked with the beef) (yikes, that looks like a lot) **Thanks Megadon! (i think) 2nd day: b: 2 eggs scrambed w/1 tbsp mayo, 1 cup spinach/mushroom/onion, 2 tbsp salsa s: 1 oz gouda l: 2 cup greens, 1/2 cup mushroom/onion/tomato, 2 tbsp cheese, 2 tbsp ranch, 4 oz chicken s: 10 turkey pepperonis, 1 cup red/yellow peppers w/ 2 tbsp cream cheese d: 5 oz ahi tuna steak w/ 2 tbsp horseradish&mayo, 1 cup mushrooms sauted in safflower oil s: 1/2 cup SF jello w/heavy whipping cream I don't know how many calories that all adds up to, but could I be eating too much or just the wrong things? |

i could be wrong, but by the looks of your menu, you may be eating more than 20g of carbs. i would check it out on fitday. |

I love Fitday.com, and have created Splenda as a custom food with 1 carb. Also for cheese I would have to add 2 oz to get 1 carb, while Atkins says 1 oz = 1 carb. So you might have to round up the carbs on Fitday. I haven't compared the Carb Calculator (which I don't have) and Fitday, but would be curious to do so soon. |

this is all new to me, but our doctor suggested low-carb for my 10 year old who is overweight, but it wouldn't hurt the rest of us either. how do i get my boy to stop eating the junk and start eating low- carb. we are big pasta and bread eaters. please help, especially with snacks for my boy.

ilumikate-
that sounds like a lot of veggies. like the others said, just check it on fit day and see...haha did you think you would ever be on a diet that LIMITS your veggies. ![]() and to the one speaking of her 10 year old son... about the only thing you can do with him is the same ALL of us have had to do for 'ourselves'... you gotta remove the problem. empty your pantries and fridge of all the bad and start from there. Best of luck with him!! ![]() |

illumikate
if you can fine a SF Jello made with Splenda. However, it stalls some ppl and also has shown to ignite cravings in others....leading to dieting failures. so, i think it is a personal decision. But, if you have to have something sweet it would be better than donuts or french fries. lol
There is a link on here somewhere about some induction friendly sweet snacks. I don't recall the link right off the bat. i will look for it for you tho. ******************************************** Tryin not to look at the scales as it is my TOM. However, DH measured me tonight, lost an inch and a half total over my body. YAYAYAYAYAYA. lol. End of day 3. ******************************************** |

Hi Penny!
Welcome and good luck girl! Listen, just a reminder that processed foods are not really allowed on Induction. Try to stay away from Atkins bars and fast foods while you're on Induction - it's just 2 weeks, you can do it! Try to prepare whole foods yourself so you know exactly what's in it and also to teach you how to shop and cook in a healthy way. I stick to clean meat and low-carb induction veggies while I'm on Induction. Read the book again and try really hard to stick to only the foods on the Induction list - makes ALL the difference!! Good luck to you, you're on the right track! Love, Hanlie |

Alrighty...miss two days and miss A LOT. I survived the wedding, drank wine, stuck to no carbs - drank TONS of water...no hangover, and got into one of my favorite pair of slacks this morning!!!
Ichel and Pennyann...WELCOME! Illumikate...a not too salty, not too sweet snack I go to when I want something to snack on is some celery with some cream cheese and a sprinkle of paprika...it is pretty, delish, and makes you feel like you are having a treat! I noticed in your menu that you are eating a bit of onions - I would completely stay away from them until you experience you "whoosh" because they are positively PACKED with sugar and may be stalling you. Josiejo - some good snacks are SF jello, celery sticks with cream cheese (see above), hardboiled eggs, and I know Kari microwaves pepperoni slices and makes "chips" - she said they are pretty good! LET'S KICK SOME POUNDAGE BUTT THIS WEEK! |

Wow- I missed a lot over the weekend!
Welcome to all of the new posters and congrats to everyone that lost weight and stayed on plan this weeked. MY in-laws were in this weekend, but I just adjusted and ate OP! I still eat SF jello as a snack with redi-whip on top. If you can knock the cravings associated with artificial then omre power to you. They just don't seem to bother me right now...i may have to switch that up later. another snack i like is ham wrapped around a string cheese stick and popped in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Yummy. Also crush up pork grinds and cut string cheese into tiny cubes. Roll the cheese in egg and dip them in the pork grinds .Fry them in canola oil. Just like mozz. sticks. Yum! Menu for the day.. B- Bacon and Eggs S- Oopsie with Cinnamon and Splenda L- Salad with Pepperoni S- Cheese Stick D- Cheeseburger- no bun and celery and cream cheese Lots of water Good luck ladies. I have lost 6 pounds in 7 days. We can do this!! |
