another way to know youre losing fat!!

Just for those who didnt already know, another way to know that youre losing fat even if it doesnt show on the scale is if your bowel movements float. Floating stools are a GOOD thing. It means there is fat in your poop and NOT in your body. Isnt that GREAT news!!!!

Just to update... research on the internet as well as Dr. Oz on Oprah said that it is in fact body fat that is broken down through metabolic processes and then excreted through urine and feces.

can you site one of those places you found body fat was being excreted in feces? I know some fatty acids can be passed in urine but I love to see a study that showed the intestines work backwards sending food back out.

snipped from the above article:

Quote:
Definition

Stools that float are generally associated with some degree of malabsorption of nutrients or excessive flatus (gas).

Alternative Names
Floating stools

Considerations

Floating stools are seen in a variety of different situations. Most are diet-related, or caused by episodes of diarrhea that accompany an acute gastrointestinal infection. A change in dietary habits can lead to an increase in the amount of gas produced by bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.

Similarly, acute gastrointestinal (GI) infections can result in increased gas content in the intestines, due to rapid movement of food through the GI tract. One wrong idea is that floating stools are caused by an increase in the fat content of the stool. In fact, it is increased gas levels in the stool that make it less dense and allow it to float.

I've lost 60lbs in three months and my poo never floats.
Sorry if that was too much information.

some of the posts here made me think of the South Park episode where people started eating with their butts and crapping out of their mouths.

yuck

Hey sweetestdork have you found those supporting articles from your reserch you mentioned in your second post about body fat being shed through feces yet? As I said I'd love to see them and the Dr OZ quote to as I have yet to find anything supporting this concept.

Google also says its fat that could have been stored in your liver that is being excreted. FAT IS FAT IS FAT!!! Its not inside you, its now in the toilet! Why dont you go look for some other posts i put up and see if you can find fault with those too!!!

And i would be more than happy to forward you the email i sent atkins that is time stamped!! Thank you very much!

I found this article on poopreport.com, did a google search on "bm floats".

Jennifer B asks:
Hi! I'm a female teenager. I have always had nice floating BMs. Recently, I have been noticing a change. They are all sinking, and are a dark green in color instead of my normal brown. What does this mean?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Adams responds:
For the most part, it has to do with diet. A diet high in fats and oils will create BM's that float. The BM's from a high fat diet also may be bubbly or sudsy. On the other hand, a diet high in vegetables and soluable fiber will create heavy BM's that will sink.
What else can play a role in sinking or floating BM's? Certain diseases certainly can. Any disease that prevents the absorption of fat will create fatty floating BM's. A few that come to my mind are cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, biliary cirrhosis or stricture, and also after removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy)

-- Dr. Adams

actually you are crediting me with SweetestDork's words. I said it wasn't body fat

here is the post where the OP not me said it was body fat when I ask what this concept of floating stools had to do with weight loss.

another way to know youre losing fat!!

I did a Yahoo search on "floating stools" and what I find is the opposite of this. Gas and fiber make them float which makes sense if you think about it. You put gas in a balloon and put it in water it will float. You put fat in a balloon and put it in water and it will sink.

the oil balloon actually should float as oil is less dense then water so it will float not sink.

Actually fiber and gas trapped could make floaters as could excessive undigested fat

I just pictured when I put olive oil in the water when I boil stuff! It floats.
I must be so used to looking at CO, that I was thinking of a solid fat.

again!
I now just pictured when I put my CO in my coffee! It floats before it melts!
Sorry, i'm tired and the sun got to my brain today.

Either way, I do not think the floaters are an indicator of weightloss...
unless you find that you weigh less after a big poo

I'd like for this board to keep it's reputation as supportive and encouraging and informational. I am not sure what is going on with some of these posts, but they seem to be emotionally charged and quite negative. Let's try to assume that we are all honestly trying to assist and learn from one another. The immediate assumption of dishonesty and deception between posters has got to stop. This is a place that many of us look forward to coming to in order to share concerns and celebrate victories large and small. Let us all try to think before we post... like momma always said... if you don't have nothing nice to say, then don't say nothing at all Peace & Love

lol. OMG. are we serious!? geez. lol. all this talk about doo-doo is killin me over here.

i am a nurse (on unknown amount of leave due to dx of fibromyalgia). now, I don't claim to know everything medical...FAR from it. my last 4 years practicing have been in the office.

however...about doodies....

3/4 of ur stinky is made up of water for the most part.
1/3 is dead bacteria
1/3 is indigestible matter and a mixture of fats, salts, dead cells and mucus.

so, for any of you that were about to have a weak moment and cheat, i bet your cravings went out the window just now. haha.

POOP will float depending on what is in it and it's density. Fiber makes it float as does fat.

A change in diet can cause a change in your excrements appearence. It is only logical that with all the increase in fats and change in diet as a whole would change our doodie. Just like ketones spilling over in our urine, it is not unlikely that fat and the sort would show in our feces.

If YOUR poop is floating, be happy, I have diarrhea LMAO...so, now that I have finished with all the FYIs and TMIs I will let you all go so you can examine your toliet kids.
