trish-
my only advice for a good induction is to stay clean. I eat only whole, natural fats, meat, and induction-friendly veggies. I drink only water- no coffee or diet soda. You should probably avoid any shakes or bars during induction. I have A LOT of weight to lose and plan on inducting for 6 mos. Some of my fave induction foods: 1. eggs- LOTS of them! 2. full fat cream cheese/sour cream/ dressings 3. home made salsa and guacamole 4. beef, chicken, pork,fish- NO imitation 5. pork rinds 6. beef jerky 7. sausage/ bacon 8. real butter 9. cucumbers, romaine lettuce, carrots, celery, asparagus, green beans That's my entire diet in a nutshell You're going to amaze yourself-- good luck and have fun ![]()

Trish, check out Linda Sue's site, it's got a lot of DELICIOUS induction-friendly recipes (I think the induction friendly ones are marked with an asterisk).

I'm using Dana Carpender's and Sharron Long's cookbooks. Almost all the recipes in them are induction-safe!
I was on induction a loooong time 6 years ago. I was getting pretty bored, and had stalled due to using products with soy (I'm very estrogen-sensitive). And now I have 3 kids in all kinds of activities, so I kept trying Atkins recently and falling out before 3 days because I just couldn't figure out what to eat and how to get it cooked when we weren't gettting home until 8 or 9 o'clock! So now I plan it out a week in advance, and bought a programmable slow cooker for our latest nights (Dana has a low-carb slowcooker book) . It's been 3.5 weeks, and it's finally working! And I feel like I could keep this up for the rest of my life. And I plan to. HTH, Tracey

Linda's is a great web site...there are a lot of great recipes to trick your taste buds.
I am careful with carrots, but depending on the Atkins plan that you follow, they're not necessarily illegal. Good Luck! ![]() Emitch...we miss ya! |

But if you're doing Atkins ~ during induction tortillas and spaghetti sauce aren't allowed, and you need way more vitamin rich veggies, good fats (that's what keeps you full longer) and not-so-salty meat. I had a shake almost every morning and it didn't negatively affect me, but many people have said that it stalls them. I'd recommend that you read the book on whichever WOE you choose so that you'll know what is allowed during the induction phase, stock up on those ingredients, and check Linda Sue's site for induction-friendly recipes and do a search for induction recipes on the recipe board on this site as well. Check out the threads on the Oopsie Rolls and the cauliflower pizza crust (just use alfredo sauce in lieu of the spaghetti sauce) ~ those will make your life so much easier and more delicious! Cleochatra (who also posts here) has an awesome site as well ~ The Lighter Side of Low-Carb: The Many Faces of the Oopsie Roll This site has SO much information that if you do a search for anything you're thinking of in regards to (IRT) low carb, you'll most likely find it's been talked about before. Good luck and have fun!

You're not following Atkins Induction. And you're not getting enough Carbs from Veggies. Here's the List of Acceptable Foods: Atkins - Acceptable Foods If it's not on the list. Don't eat it. And that includes the shakes. XO, HB Last edited by hummingbird11 : 04-25-2008 at 01:36 AM. |

I have a question about Linda's recipes though - why do so many of them require splenda? Is it just her personal taste for sweets, or do recipes really require sugar that frequently? I'm not much of a cook, so I don't know. But, 80% of her recipes all contain Splenda, and I thought the point of Atkins was to eat healthy, not cram up on AS.

Atkins actually endorsed Splenda as being perfectly safe. The only issue with it is the filler in the packets and bulk variety. If you get the liquid Splenda, then there are absolutely NO carbs to deal with. Otherwise, Dr. A recommended limiting yourself to 3 packets a day.
My advice? splurge on the liquid stuff. It tastes way better anyway. |
