Help!!!

Hi everybody, I'm new here. My name is Karen. It's nice to meet you all. I need to lose at least 25 pounds. I would love to lose 30 so I have that fluctuation. I weigh 164.5 and I am 5'4.5 and a medium frame. I'm 41 years old. I have 3 children ages 22, 19 and 16. I work at a computer all day long so my life style is pretty sedentary. I work from 5 in the morning to about 4 in the afternoon. I am TRYING to get some exercise into my life by walking.

I have been doing the Atkin's induction for one week today. I have been so good with it. Unfortunately, I got on the scale and GAINED HALF A POUND! Why, why, why!!!!! Now, I started it the week before my TOM. So now I am on it since yesterday. Does this have something to do with it? Will it show a weight loss after my TOM? I have been so good with what I have been eating. I eat eggs for breakfast, 2 slices of bacon, for lunch I will have either a salad or some low sodium low fat deli turkey and a string cheese, not big on lunch and for dinner I have some kind of protein, salad and a cup of vegies. What is going with this? Can someone please give me some insight!! Thanks so much.

Welcome Karen!
With my expereince the scale will go up and down until it decides to settle at one number. Your menu sounds okay, except for the low fat turkey. Eating fat can help during induction. Just stay on plan and don't give up!

Thank you for the welcome. I am not feeling totally discouraged as of yet. I "feel" a lot better not eating all the carbs. I'm not as tired as I normally would be, but, I would love to have seen the numbers change on the scale. I'm going to keep on trucking along. So, do you think the low fat turkey is not good to eat? should I eat just a regular turkey?

Hi Karen!
Welcome!! Im Christina..so nice to meet you! Baby is right..the scale will go up and down and if TOM is close by about a week to 10 days it will go up because of that and will start coming down some when its about over...

Low Sodium Turkey has more carbs that regular..there is hidden sugar in it..eat regular or if you can find the natural in your local grocery store deli most of them have 0 carbs in them. Your menu look pretty good...Watch the kind of bacon you get too...I try to buy the Oscar Mayer Natural if you can find it...that has O carbs in it too...cannot find it at my local Walmart but my food lion carries it.

I turn 40 in December and have 1 boy named Brandon..if you can get at least 30 min in of some kind of walking it will help speed your weight loss.

Know we are here to answer most of your question..Also..if you have time start posting what you eat on here so we can help you out more.

Once again Welcome
HUGS
Christina

Ok gang
I just got on my scale a few min ago and I was wrong...I lost 1/2 pound!! With TOM I think is around the corner..think its going to be early for me again I cannot believe that!! I am REALLY craving my green tea as it going to be hot and humid today..I seen where someone on here broke her stall buy doing 3 things..Drinking 18 oz of COLD water right when you get up..make sure you eat 1 hour after you get up and drink 3 to 6 cups of green tea daily..I might just have to try that.

Mary..I just made those muffins with a cup of blueberries..They are great!! I did take and used 1/4 cup of Flax Meal and 1 3/4 cup of Almond flour instead and still wonderful..I ate 2...lol

My Gosh..Brandon is SO hipper from them breathing treatments...be glad when I can cut them back.

Later all!

Hi Christina, it's nice to meet you. I too have a Brandon, he is 22 and is actually on vacation now to Italy, Ireland, England and Spain. He is actually due back today. He didn't tell me until after it was done but he ran with the bulls in spain last weekend. I'm glad I didn't know he was going to do that. LOL It would have made me crazy. He's my risk taker. He enjoys life.

I'm going to try to post in that fitday but Im not sure how to link it in to show you guys what I'm doing so I will just write it here. This morning I had 2 scrambled eggs and one sausage patty. I've already had 2 cups of coffee with some half and half, I know that has carbs but I need it desperately as I start work early in the a.m. Now I'm on my water. I have at least 64 ounces of water a day. I have not been a water drinker but since I started this a week ago I have been very very thirsty so I guess thats one way of getting my water in. I hate water . Perhaps for lunch I wil have some tuna on some lettuce with a couple of tomatoes diced on that and some red onion chopped into the tuna. how does that sound??

thanks so much!

Karen

Hi!
Wow Karen...I am SO glad he didn't tell you ahead of time. My Brandon is 4 on August 12th...Everything sounds good but just watch how much red onion you put on it...I know you hate water...but..I drink 80 to 100 oz a day..if you can switch to decaf coffee..I know that will be a hard but it might just help you or either buy you some green tea and drink that instead with some splenda in it if you like your tea sweet..

Using fitday its easy to post even thou I have been lazy putting mine in lately... sign up for it and do your profile it will as you if you want to be able to use it for public use..say yes and then it will give you a link when you can copy and paste in here or either put it link in your signature....when you get ready to do it holler and if I can here I can help you when you have time. Hope I didn't confuse you more...

Later and HUGS

Hi Karen!
Good to see another warm body here!!!
Ditto on what was said earlier on the food. Try to eat ful fat foods too and fat in general. You'll feel satisfied and won't get as hungry.

Your son ran with the bulls!! OMG! How scary!! LOL, I'm glad he didn't tell you too until after the fact. At least he can say he did it!

I work in an office too, sitting on my butt all day! I have started exercising again, using my elliptical. I just need to get my eating together, which I know I will.

Well feel free to post about anything you like! We are all open to talk about any issue even if it's not related to low carb. You know, we're women and we have issues!! Okay, I do!!!

Talk to you All later!!!

Love Ya!

WOE: Atkins (DANDR)
Start Date: July 18, 2008
I just started Induction today, I'm using the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) book that I already had on the bookshelf. Several years ago I was living by this book and easily losing weight, but then I got married, got off of the program, and gained it all back, plus an extra 10 pounds. (Such a familiar story, I know!)

I'm just exhausted all the time, I hate the way I feel, and the way I look. I remember how much better I felt when I was following an Atkins lifestyle before, and I want that feeling back! So I dug out the book last night, made an early morning run to the grocery, and I'm BACK!

And this time I'm not leaving. Ever. Period. I've learned my lesson.

Thank you, Lord, for Sr. Dulce, who first insisted that I give Atkins a try.

Thanks Christina! I will try to do that later today. I do like green tea. that's what I will do. I know that's supposed to curb your appetite a bit as well. No sweetner for me though. I gave that up years ago when I did Atkins. I think it was about 10 years ago and I was going on a trip and I ended losing 13 pounds in 2 weeks. I was so excited. I gave up regular soda and switche to diet, i gave up sugar in my coffee and went with just cream. I used to take 2 tsp. sugar. Now I can't stomach regular soda or sugar in my coffee. My taste for really "sweet" stuff left me then. I'm going to try to figure out that fitday. Thanks

Hi Diana. It's nice to meet you. Thanks for the advise. Yes, he ran. it's a funny story. He and his friend decided to do a "guys vacation" and they made these plans. He is also military, which that in itself is a scary in itself) and his friend is military as well. They both got their vacation at the same time so this is where they decided to go. They were in spain for the running of the bulls. he says they were dressed in their white clothes and they were running down this alley-like area and they jumped up on the window sills. until the bulls ran "past" them and then they jumped down to run "behind" the bulls. Smart right??? Well, they weren't running fast enough I guess, someone told them that they were not running behind the bulls, they were running behind the COWS that the bulls chase. The bulls were only a few people behind them. He said he was sooo scared. LOL. I could just see his face. My other son and daughter want to do it now. Lord help me!!!! Anyway, Brandon is in the military, Army. He enlisted while he was in college, without me or my husbands knowledge. (of course) he graduated college as a history teacher but he leaves in March to Alabama for flight school. He is also going to be a helicopter pilot. so he has to be there to train. Unfortunately, he is going to have to go to Iraq after he is done but it looks (please God) that this war will be over and it's just going to be clean up. Needless to say, I will be going out of my mind!!!!

I better get back to work. Ha-ha!! Thanks Christina and Diana. I will talk to you later.

Hi Ann - it's nice to meet you!! We can do this!!!!

Ann Good to see you decided to come back to low carbing!
Diana, went to the website and found some pretty good low carb recipes. I'm doing the parm chicken for lunch with leg quarter. Breakfast was 2 eggs 3 slices of thick bacon, 2 cups of coffee w/cream. I'm also cooking extra chicken in case I get hungry between meals. No
Pb cups today! Eating fat is a good! Also cooking low carb parm. meat loaf w/Italien dressing for DH dinner. He can have more carbs than me at the moment. I hope to get there soon. He eats low carb wraps everyday and still loses. MEN, so not fair! Anyway hope everyone is losing and eating good, and don't get discouraged. It will come off in time, slowly but surely with Atkins. Good morning everyone.

Christina, I do hope that Brandon gets better and you get some much needed sleep. You even "read" (since we can't see you) tired.

Had two of my blueberry muffins for breakfast and will probably have a salad for lunch. Haven't got a clue what I'm having for dinner yet. DH won't be home until Saturday so I'll only get one day with him...

Hope everyone is having a truly blessed day! Later my friends

Diana, those muffins sound unbelievable. I'm sure that those aren't on induction. As soon as I get to where I want to be I am definitely going to try those low carb dessers. Linda's low carb site is fantastic. There is a dessert on there thats a cheesecake dessert and it's induction friendly. Can I have that or should I wait until after induction.

Karen,
I don't know about having that for induction, technically, I don't think cream cheese is allowed in the first 2 weeks. But, others may have different opinions on that.
I know that LindaSue has IF on it, but according to Dr Atkins, I think cream cheese is not allowed until after the 2 weeks.

Can ya wait that long!! To be on the safe side and to lose as much as you can right now, I think I would wait.

Diana, I always thought cream cheese was allowed on induction. I'll definitely hold off on this for now. I would really love so see some weight loss. I think I'm going to try to go for a walk this evening. It's so hot though. Even if I walk 15 minutes, I guess its better than nothing. Tonight I am making grilled chicken with some pesto on top and mozarella cheese over the pesto with a side salad. I use olive oil as my dressing. That is fine isn't it?? Its not drenched in oil but its about a tablespoon full. I had those eggs for breakfast and I don't want any lunch so I think I'm fine until dinner.

Hi Karen, gosh you know what, cream cheese may be allowable, it's just been so long since I've read the book. Maybe Christina knows, she has alot of info on that.
But yes you can have olive oil. (slather it on, lol!) Oh your chicken sounds good!! Yum!!

15 min is good!! Any amount of walking is good as far as I'm concerned.
