Okay, I'm now sitting here at work with tears in my eyes. Saturday would have been my mom's birthday - I lost her two years ago Thanksgiving.

Hi everyone.

I had my shake for breakfast, and had to skip the midmorning snack - I was at an offsite meeting and they had nothing LC at all. They even brought in lunch...pasta.

So, I picked up a taco salad from my local deli - romain, tomato, cheese, olives, ground beef, and sour cream. Ate about half of it.

And while I'm full - I am *not* satisfied.

I'm wondering if I need to go have an iced coffee w/ hwc early - that's my usual 3:30 pick me up.

Has that every happened to anyone else - you're full, but not satisfied?

Certainly... usually around certain times of the month
the way I see it, three things you can do...

- ignore it and wait for it to pass (it always does)
- take some l-glutamine (but sounds like you are out in the field working, so probably don't have any)
- find a lc substitute for something that is treat-like, pref. something w/ fat

Mary, do you suppose the meat had flour in it (some places use oat flour to soak up the fat in the ground beef and make it look like you have more "meat" rather than drain the fat off)... carbs will also leave you hankering for more??

Hello, I'm Christine and I'm brand new to this board and low-carb. I'm on day five and have lost five pounds A friend of mine handed me the Atkins for Life book when I asked her about what she's doing (she's lost 50lb in the past year or so).

Stats:
Female, 26 years old
Height: 5'5
Starting weight: 180
Current weight: 175
Goal: 140 or a size 8 pair of pants which ever comes first

Menu for today:
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 1 turkey sausage (why turkey? I don't eat pork), 1 oz cheese
Lunch: Salad w/chicken and balsamic vinagrette
Snacks: 1 oz slices of cheese and a single serving tuna cup
Dinner: Unknown, the company potluck/picnic is tonight. Must stay away from all the potato and pasta salads!
Exercise: 20-40 min of Pilates (how long depends on how I feel after I get home tonight)

The first few days I was in a bit of a stupor from caffeine withdraw but now I'm out of that and into a very low energy, ache muscles type of feeling. I hear that's from the transition from burning carbs/sugar to burning fat and that I'll have a ton of energy in a few days.

Everyone here seems to be really great and I've loved reading through some of the recipes and visiting the links to helpful sites. I was kinda worried about variety in my diet but I'm not so worried anymore.

I'm "Wendy", not Mary

I trust this deli, they're a solid local chain, and use real food.

I got a latte, HWC and am sipping it now, savoring the fat.

I'm wondering if it was LF sour cream and lean beef - there was zero fat on the meat.

Hi Christine

Welcome to the group. Two things stick out for me in your diet - first, you need more fat, and second balsamic can be a source of carbs. That's why it's so yummy.

Ohhhh, and have you tried Hebrew National beef breakfast sausage? They're pretty nummy too.

Howdy to all of my LC friends!!! And welcome to you Christine!!! This is such a nice little group that Diana has started and I know that for me, I LOVE this lifestyle. I am feeling much healthier all ready and I am making much better food choices. I need/want (is that the same thing?????) to lose 30# and I am gonna do it!!! The great people on this board are my helpers on this journey!!!
My menu so far-
B-scrambled aggs (x2) and s slices turkey bacon
L- 2 cups lettuce, chicken breast (about 4 ounces), shredded cheddar, 4 cherry tomoaotes and oil and vinegar dressing.
S- will be an Atkins shake
D- breakfast for dinner (good protein pancake recipe!)
I guess I should eat a little more; seems a little light on calories. I also start my callanetics today as well. Will let you all know how it goes.....
I'll be back a little later. See ya then....
PS Mary, thanks for the lovely posts. I miss my Mom and Dad so much (they both died young; he was 63 and she died 15 months later at 57) My kids never got to know them (2 weren't even born yet....)

Thanks for the advice. I had a hamburger with cheese and felt a whole lot better about 30 minutes later. Will be concentration on getting enough fat in the coming days.

And thanks to everyone for being so welcoming. Not all online forums are so nice.

I totally agree... I visited one the other day to view before/after pics for motivation... it was like a meat-market, with lots of inuendos and not in a fun flirty way. Just... ew. And people stating their opinion like it was the ultimate truth and anyone who disagrees is... well anyway, I know what you mean. It is nice here.

Oh yeah, in one of the forums here, it was notorious for being mean and snarky. I don't even go on there anymore. People can be so rude. That's why I love it here too, everyone is so helpful and supportive.

Not to worry Maryposa, I'm the other Mary

I'm afraid I don't come in here as much as everyone else but I try to get here as often as possible.

For all the new people who have been lucky enough to find this wonderful group you are going to really enjoy it. There is nothing that we can't discuss here and nobody is going to judge. We're just one big happy family.

Creamy Seafood Casserole
50 min | 10 min prep

SERVES 4 -6

* 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
* 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
* 1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese
* 3 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
* 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
* 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
* 1/8 teaspoon paprika
* 1 lb fish, cut in bite size pieces (I use tilapia)
* 1 lb shrimp

1. Heat cream in a saucepan, but do not boil.
2. Add all other ingredients, except for fish and shrimp.
3. Melt thoroughly.
4. Put fish in a 9x13-inch baking dish and then shrimp.
5. Pour sauce over top and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, or until done.

This is about 5.3g per serving.

Sounds great!!! Thanks Chica!!!
