Hi All,
Diana, thanks for the advice on the candy and gum. Yesssss, they are soooo good, but like I said, I'm really committed....so they're out!

Thanks for the welcome! Everyone here seems really nice!

Well, I spent 10 years of my life really overweight...and one day I just clicked! I knew I had to do something about myself and I started the Atkins diet. A friend of mine told me about the diet and I would just shrug her advice aside because it didn't make sense to me....you know, eating steak and eggs, and still losing weight. It sounded ridiculous! Then, out of desperation, I thought, geez, I'll just try it. And, about 2 mos. later I lost most of my excess weight. It was fantastic! That was back in 2001...and now, I've put back about 13 lbs from my lowest weight, but I do want to lose an extra 7.

I also treadmill each day for 1/2 an hour, which is super important! So, if anyone wants any advice from me...I'd be happy to help! And, thanks to all of you for the support!

Julia,

Congrats on keeping off most of your weight! I also have lost before, and in 1998
went from my high of 230 to 165 where I stayed for quite a while. However I was not
protective of my loss the way I am now! I did regain in 2001 (family event) and got back to 210, but then in 2007 Jan. 16th I started Atkins 72 again and lost this time to
131! I reached my first goal of 150 and decided it wasn't low enough so I kept losing until my weight loss evened out and stopped. I recently gained 8 pounds, so I started induction on Monday and am down 5. I also decided to go for my lowest weight of 130
as we are going on a cruise to Alaska in 5 weeks. I think I can do it!

Bella

Hi Julia,
I don't have a treadmill, but I have an elliptical that I do about 4 times a week, sometimes 5, for only 1 mile. That's awesome that you do that!!
I wanted a tread, but the elliptical was cheaper.

Hi Bella, I bet you could totally make your goal!!!

hello everybody. Sorry didn't check in until now but have been really busy today. This morning hubby and I started our training for a 5K that we want to do in October. we downloaded this podcast to our MP3 players and we went to the school track. we had to walk for 5 minutes at a decent pace, run for 60 seconds, walk for 90 seconds. that lasted about a half an hour with on and off running. We actually finished it. Never had to walk when we were supposed to run. It was great. We do that 3 times a week and go onto week 2. it's a 10 week program that should have us ready for a 5K in that amount of time. I'm hoping that we can do it. We are doing the Susan G. Koman 5K in October. I felt good after the run. I wasn't hurting or exhausted. Actually, I was really proud of myself. Haven't been able to say something like that in a long time.

So it still says that all I lost in 2 weeks was 1.5 pounds. I don't know what to do. I know I cheated yesterday with the Chinese food but I had been so good for 2 weeks. I'm not sure if this is for me anymore. Years ago when I did this I lost 13 pounds the first 2 weeks and then I was about the same weight I am now. Go figure.

Christina - my nephew has asthma and when he takes his inhaler medications he itches. It's just a reaction that he has to the medications. It's his stomach that he scratches all the time. As soon as he uses the inhaler you see him scratching his stomach. Since he was a little boy and he is almost 19 now and still does it. It's the best medicine for him so he just deals with the itching. He only itches for a few minutes and then it goes away. How old is Brandon??

I hope everybody had a great day.

Yesterday was obnoxious. Well, part was fun, part was tough.

I got too hot...I mean on the verge of heat stroke too hot. I was visiting a friend at his ranch and had a blast until I started to overheat. We got me cooled off, not to mention lunch - did I mention I let my bloodsugar get WAY too low as well? Geeze, the LC gave me fits yesterday.

Then on the way home, sunburned and pretty tired, I had to stop at the grocery store to pick up some eggs and flax since I'm having a couple of problems flax can fix and I felt the lure of LC ice cream. OMG, I didn't think I could resist. I went so far as to take the box off the shelf and look at it - then wanted scream at the net carb count - SO not worth it.

I got some SF rasberry and SF hazelnut instead and treated myself to a chocolate rasberry egg cream instead. Pretty satisfying.

The real satisfaction came this morning when the scale showed me at 239.6 - I've left the 240's behind for ever!!

I was in the 230s when I was 21, and had jaw surgery. Not eating for 6 weeks put me at 225 so I'm within 15 pounds of my lowest adult weight!

Good morning low carb friends,
To all new comers and those coming back to this woe. I've been busy studying for my prenursing test and I really think I will pass it this time, second time taking it. Funny story when I took it the first time I was on such a low calorie diet that I got sick that morning and passed out. Come to find out a couple weeks later I was pregnant and not getting enough nutrition. But thats the story of what happened the first time I took the test. But know I'm am so ready thanks to the lord blessing me with the knowledge of Atkins and this woe. Well good news I've went down 2 pounds (again) from 138 to 136. Hope this time I can keep it! Been eating at 20 full carbs, no net carbs until I reach 130. Then I will start back counting net. Its easy when you stick to the plan because the only carbs come from eggs and coffee and cream. I am a coffee addict and I like to much to give it up right now. Maybe one day. Well todays menu is as following:B-2eggs w/ a lil cream cheese, 2 slices of bacon and coffee w/cream.
L-2 small porkchops drenched in blue cheese dressing
D-2 small chopped steaks w/2 poached eggs on top of them, got this idea from I-Hop. It was so good to me, decided to try it myself.
This is alot of calories but that is not my issue at hand right now, just carbs.
I ate the same amount yesterday and woke up with loss so not really worried till I reach goal then I will slow down. Oh, good for you Wenb for not giving in to ice cream, thats one of the reasons I haven't hit goal yet. Too many lc goodies, that and dipping in the peanut butter. Thats why I've found an aternative to that, Carb Not Beanut Butter.

I think part of the trick is that I've been keeping it under 10g carbs total - averaging 7g. I'm trying to get it lower, but I'm having serious difficulties since I drink egg creams for breakfast.

I did find out that EVOC is addictive and I don't have any problems with it other than portion control.

Good morning everyone!

Im up early as today I am presenting my annual workshop to my students, it's on Relationships and Intimacy.

Im on day 7 and have lost 5 this week. So that's good.

Yesterday I had a near meltdown though after starting off really well. I decided to go shopping to pick up some more of my colors (recently had them redone, am a Summer
or Subtle Blended type) and first stop was Chicos to exchange a shirt. Got this salesperson who started bossing me around...? At one point I said "I guess we have a difference of opinion" and she said "Well, I am entitled to that!". Needless to say I didn't buy anything from her. Then I went to Macys and picked up a nice deep purple tencel shirt and a forest green tank, knit. Finally, and it was 4pm and I hadn't eaten since noon, I stopped by Nordstroms to look around and found a couple of things, went into the dressing room and they have a 360 mirror! The light were glaring and I saw only the fat around my middle! I am 53 and ladies, once you are past post menopause your middle region changes! I have never had much of the above the navel fat, and this time I saw that I really do! And we are talking in need of spanx! So I was really upset and discouraged.....I did buy the top I loved, brought in home in tears, put on my spanx and it looks fine. In fact really great. So.....my dh was loving and supportive
as he could see that I have deep pain about my body after many years of self hatred.
I need to keep working on this.

Thanks for listening.....

Bella

Good morning all. I have some info from Mary Enig's book I wanted to share. It might help some of you.

If you are not using coconut oil you need to get some. NOW. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT buy the LouAnna brand from wallyworld. It will only add calories to your diet and nothing more.

CO, I just read a couple of days ago, bypasses your liver and gall bladder because it's composed of medium chain fatty acids. Your body doesn't have to break them down with bile before it can use it. Also, CO requires more calories to utilize than it contains and THAT'S why it revs your metabolism up.

Start SLOW. The problems I had a week and a half ago were from taking in too much of the GOOD stuff too soon. (I had been using the LouAnna, duh, and when I switched to the Spectrum all hell broke loose). If you aren't using it now I'd start with a TSP 3 x's a day. Mary suggests this guideline:

if you're 90-130 pounds take 1TBS CO 20 minutes before each meal (total of 3TBS a day)

If you 131-180 pounds, take 1.5 TBS 20 min before each meal (total of 4.5 TBS a day)

Over 180 pounds take 2TBS 20 min before each mean (total of 6 TBS a day).

I'm already feeling much much better. I've had short bouts of actual energy (not the zany caffeine fueled kind but just wanting to get up and DO things), am sleeping better and as a result am not so cranky.

I just ordered a gallon of the gold label from tropical traditions. Can hardly wait for it to get here.

Geesh Bella, you think that someone who worked at Chico's would have a better attitude than this salesperson. Especially since that's a high end store!!! I don't get that!!

I guess that's why I never go out and shop, I do mine online, lol!! I always shop at Nordstrom for my shoes and certain things. I love it too, because if I have to take something back that I have ordered online, then it's no problem, no matter how long it's been.

Looks to me like your doing great. You don't need to lower carbs anymore, as long as they are coming from the right foods your fine.

I've actually made mine into a chocolate protein bark - coconut oil, cocoa powder, protein powder and sugar sub. It's too nummy for words.

If you get the book, you'll learn all about how wonderful this stuff is. I'm sorry I just can't type out the whole thing, LOL. This little primer might help some:

The Skinny on Fats

Here's a short paragraph that may tempt you to read the whole page:

Quote:
Coconut oil is 92% saturated with over two-thirds of the saturated fat in the form of medium-chain fatty acids (often called medium-chain triglycerides). Of particular interest is lauric acid, found in large quantities in both coconut oil and in mother's milk. This fatty acid has strong antifungal and antimicrobial properties. Coconut oil protects tropical populations from bacteria and fungus so prevalent in their food supply; as third-world nations in tropical areas have switched to polyunsaturated vegetable oils, the incidence of intestinal disorders and immune deficiency diseases has increased dramatically. Because coconut oil contains lauric acid, it is often used in baby formulas.
