Christina - I live in New York. We are nice and cool today as well. No winds yet though. Lots of rain. I hate it when the winds get like that. Makes me nervous. Although I have a tree outside that I do want down but am not willing to pay 1000.00 to get it taken down so if it could fall during a wind storm and avoid any houses as it is falling, it would be great!!!
Can I eat peanut butter? I want to make the Magic Peanutbutter cookies that Paula Dean makes. I have made them a few times for my father who is a diabetic and even the kids love them but I was wondering if I could have peanutbutter or is it too soon yet? Karen |

Hey Karen
If you are on Strict induction I would not do it...but I do my own modified induction and eat about a TSP when I am craving it..funny thou...I ate that yesterday and it turned me sick!! Went away thou...maybe my body dont like it anymore... Would be nice if the winds would take it down for you and not on your house!! I like in a Rural area of VA and we have all kinds of trees and the winds were so hard here last night I thought they were going to take down on big Oak tree in our front yard.. Later..HUGS! |

Hi everyone! Sorry I wasn't on yesterday but we were having some really nasty thunderstorms. Apparently we're going to have some more this afternoon. They had hail in some parts of town but, luckily, that didn't happen in my part. Being that this is our hurricane season I constantly watch the weather to make sure that we don't have any headed our way. Four more months to go. Keep your fingers crossed.
Well, I made another batch of my blueberry muffins. Kept four out and froze the rest while they were still hot. They are soooo good. I hope everyone is having a great day. Right now I'm trying to bribe my scales into dropping from it's present number because it's been on the same number for over a week. Hmmmm, I wonder if I offer it chocolate........... WHY MEN ARE NEVER DEPRESSED: Men Are Just Happier People-- What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character.. Wedding dress $5000. Tux rental-$100. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache. You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes. Hi how is everyone?!?!?! I am soooo happy that I found this site. To start off, my name is Traci and I've been severely depressed about my weight for sooo long. I've been one the Atkins Induction Phase for 3 days and I can say that (aside from the head ache and "loopiness") that I feel lighter, less bloated, and over all better. Prior to the three days I was living primarily 100% carb w/ very little protein and fruit. I can not stop.. I know I can do this... especially with everyone's help. I'm trying to go no carb... is this possible? Please offer any insight that you may have. Thank you sooooo much.
B- Two eggs, 1 chicken sausage pattie, green tea w/splenda L- Cup of chicken Salad on fresh greens, two hard boiled eggs, 3 table spoons of cheddar, one table spoon of blue cheese. I will probrably have eggs for dinner. Oh! Question? I want to lose 15 to 20 lbs by August 9th, 2008.. is this possible? |

Hi Traci
![]() Good to have you here! I hope you stick around for some great, loving, encouraging support! I'm sorry to hear about the depression. I can definately relate to you on that. But I really believe that eating the high carb food has alot to do with feeling that way. Since doing lc, I don't feel depressed or down, well except for the typical PMS!! But the sugar is what makes us feel so awful.I totally think you can do this and meet your goal, but you have to be strict about it. We'll encourage and support you all the way and if we see something that you're eating that may stall your w/l, we will let you know too. FYI--I don't think fruits are allowed yet in the induction phase, not until the OWL phase. You do need to eat at leat 15 to 20% carbs in the form of veggies or salads. That's very important because when you go on OWL, and then add the v/s, you may see a gain only because your body is not used to it. It's important to eat them with protein too. You can do it!! Just hang in there and you'll see some lbs drop before you know it! Also, the foggy feeling is induction flu. That should go away in a few days. ![]() Feel free to chat away here!! We don't bite!! ![]()

Greetings!
I reached goal last May (07) and maintained well until the last couple of months when I think I added in too many carbs. Nothing off plan at all, just too much greek yogurt, nuts, almond butter! So I dragged myself to induction again to clean up my act, and lose the 7-8 lbs I gained before they turn into 70! Bella |

Way to go Bella. I'm 4lbs away from my goal but seem to be stuck. I think it's a conspiracy to keep me here
![]() I loved your pictures. Traci. Nice to have you join our little group. I agree with Christina, you don't want to starve yourself and you need some of the fats to help you lose. Please feel free to talk about anything and everything here. We have lots of opinions (wanted or not ) here and tons of support. You're in a great place.A couple of years ago a friend gave me this little book that is just filled with interesting quotes and other little bits of inspiration. Here is one of the quotes I like.... "Today is the first day of the rest of your life" is a bit ominous. I prefer to wake up to five-card-draw poker. Each morning, a new hand; some days, junk; some days, a full house; and every day, the challenge of playing that hand to win." ![]() |

Thanks everyone re my photos....I think I will look at them again!
After while at goal, an odd thing can happen: you don't always see the progress you have made. Even if I have gained a little, it is in no way comparable to the 210 where I started! My dh says that maybe I will have to do induction a couple times each year to keep my weight in check. I think he may be right, and it doesn't mean I am failing. I am actually still below my original goal, but I reached my low of 131 last Dec. (was sick) and usually am at 135. My scale is not all that reliable but I am guessing I am at 140-142 now. So induction day 3! And, I am presenting workshops on a cruise in 5 weeks (Alaska) and want to be at my lowest by then. When I did induction in 2007, I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks but I weighed alot more. I figure it will be more like 7-8, and then I will add back in slowly over the next 3 weeks until the cruise. Maintenance is work ladies!! Bella

Hi Ladies Tracy and Bella lots of good info here from these ladies you will like it here! Tracy I whole heartedly agree with what the others have said don't starve yourself of carbs or food you mat lose quicker but there is no way you could stay at that level and you will gain it back. This is all about gradual weight loss. It may not be too quick but it will stick and that is the point. It is not a temporary diet it is a WOE. Kate good for you on resisting temptation...fairs are the worst for us lo-carbers! You did great though!Jen I guess you will have some company soon. All us low carbers who love a Margarita on a pontoon boat! Count me in!!!! ![]() Tiff Yeah for you ![]() ![]() ![]() Karen yeah I think you could add a few more like the book says. Slowly add like 5 carbs maybe every other day and see what happens if it stalls you try another carb. ![]() Hi to everyone Christina, Diana, Mary, Darleen, Qgirl(where are you?)Rae(missing you)Everyone else too boy we are getting to be a big group YEAH!!! ![]() Nothing new to report here same weight different day! Going to go to a brazillian steakhouse tonight....all you can eat but tonight is seafood night MMMMMMMMM crab legs. Can't wait. if you ever get a chance to go to one you should. They have these Gauchos that bring out meat cooked on a skewer and you take what you want as much as you want. So good for Atkineers! It is expensive but for what you get it is worth it. I have never been to seafood night I hope it is good!![]() Love ya all !!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Here are some tasty looking recipes that are induction friendly or Atkins friendly.
Chicken with Chile and Lime 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lbs) salt and pepper 6 tblsp unsalted butter 1 jalapeno chile, seeded and chopped fine-- with the recall, I would us canned! 4 garlic cloves 1 (10oz) can Ro-tel tomatoes 1/2 c low sodium chicken broth 1 tblsp grated zest and 2 tblsps juice from 2 limes 1/4 c finely chopped fresh cilantro 1. Pat chicken dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Melt 2 tblsps butter in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken until golden, about 3 min per side. Transfer to plate. 2. Add jalapeno and garlic to skillet and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in tomatoes and broth and bring to boil. Return chicken and any accumlated juices to skillet and simmer, covered, over med heat until chicken is cooked through, about 10 min. 3. Transfer chicken to serving platter and tent with foil. Simmer sauce uncovered, until slightly thickened, about 5 min. Off heat, stir in remaining butter, lime zest and juice, and cilantro. Season with salt and pepper. Pour over chicken. Serve This sounds good! Steak Fiorentina 3 strip steaks (10 to 12 0z each) about 1 inch thick salt and pepper 5 tblsps extra virgin olive oil 1 garlic clove, minced 1 tblsp lemon juice 6 cups Arugula 1/2 shredded parmesan cheese Lemon wedges for serving 1. Pat steaks dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tblsp oil in large skillet over med-high heat until just smoking. Cook steaks until well browned, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Transfer to cutting board and tent with foil. 2. Whisk garlic, lemon juice and 2 tblspns oil in large bowl. Toss agrugula and parmesan with garlice mixture and season with salt and pepper. Slice steaks and drizzle with remaining oil. Serve with arugula and lemon wedges. Baby spinach can be substitued for Arugula. Garlic Shrimp with basil 1 1/2 lbs extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined salt and pepper 2 tblsp olive oil 10 garlic cloves 3/4 cu white wine 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes 1/2 c finely chopped fresh basil 4 tblsps unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces 2 tblsps capers, drained and minced 1 tsp lemon juice 1. Pat shrimp dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tblsp oil in large nonstick skillet over med-high heat until just smoking. Add shrimp and cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute per side. Transfer to plate. 2. Add remaining oil, garlic and 1/2 tsp pepper to empty skillet and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in wine and tomatoes and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Off heat, whisk in basil, butter, capers, and lemon juice. Add shrimp and any accumulated juices to skillet. Cover and let sit until shrimp are heated through, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Sweet, Hot, and Sour Pork Chops 1/4 c cider vinegar 1/4 c sugar---- use Splenda or Stevia, or whatever AS 2 tblsps pineapple juice--- use Davinci sf pineapple syrup 1 tblsp tomato paste 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes 1 bone-in or center cut pork chops, 3/4 to 1 inch thick salt and pepper 1 tblsp veg oil 1. Whisk vinegar, sugar pineapple juice, tomato paste, and pepper flakes in medium bowl until sugar dissolves. 2. Pat chops dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Heat oil in larg skillet over med-high heat until just smoking. Add chops and cook until golden brown, about 3 mintues per side. Add vinegar mixture to pan and simmer, turning chops once or twice to coat, until meat registers 145 degrees and sauce is ver thick, about 5 minutes. Serve I dont' know what the carb counts are, but they can't be too much. I just thought they sounded good. |

Ok everyone, I realize this is off subject but it was sent to me and I just thought I'd pass it along. It's a bit long but well worth the reading....
Never Judge Someone Some people!' snorted a man standing behind me at the long line at the grocery store. ' You would think the manager would pay attention and open another line, 'said a woman. I looked to the front of the line to see what the hold up was and saw a well dressed, young woman, trying to get the machine to accept her credit card. No matter how many times she swiped it, the machine kept rejecting it. 'It's one of them welfare card things. Darn people need to get a job like everyone else,' said the man standing behind me. The young woman turned around to see who had made the comment. 'It was me,' he said, pointing to himself. The young lady's face began to change expression. Almost in tears, she dropped the welfare card onto the counter and quickly walked out of the store. Everyone in the checkout line watched as she began running to her car. Never looking back, she got in and drove away. After developing cancer in 1977 and having had to use food stamps; I had learned never to judge anyone, without knowing the circumstances of their life. This turned out to be the case today. Several minutes later a young man walked into the store. He went up to the cashier and asked if she had seen the woman. After describing her, the cashier told him that she had run out of the store, got into her car, and drove away. 'Why would she do that?' asked the man. Everyone in the line looked around at the fellow who had made the statement. 'I made a stupid comment about the welfare card she was using. Something I shouldn't have said. I'm sorry,' said the man. 'Well, that's bad, real bad, in fact. Her brother was killed in Afghanistan two years ago. He had three young children and she has taken on that responsibility. She's twenty years old, single, and now has three children to support,' he said in a very firm voice. 'I'm really truly sorry. I didn't know,' he replied, shaking both his hands about. The young man asked, 'Are these paid for?' Pointing to the shopping cart full of groceries. 'It wouldn't take her card,' the clerk told him. 'Do you know where she lives?' Asked the man who had made the comment. 'Yes, she goes to our church.' 'Excuse me,' he said as he made his way to the front of the line. He pulled out his wallet, took out his credit card and told the cashier, 'Please use my card. PLEASE!' The clerk took his credit card and began to ring up the young woman's groceries. Hold on,'said the gentleman. He walked back to his shopping cart and began loading his own groceries onto the belt to be included. 'Come on people. We got three kids to help raise!' He told everyone in line. Everyone began to place their groceries onto the fast moving belt. A few customers began bagging the food and placing it into separate carts. 'Go back and get two big turkeys,' yelled a heavyset woman, as she looked at the man. 'NO,' yelled the man. Everyone stopped dead in their tracks. The entire store became quiet for several seconds. 'Four turkeys,' yelled the man. Everyone began laughing and went back to work. When all was said and done, the man paid a total of $1,646.57 for the groceries. He then walked over to the side, pulled out his check book, and began writing a check using the bags of dog food piled near the front of the store for a writing surface. He turned around and handed the check to the young man. 'She will need a freezer and a few other things as well,' he told the man. The young man looked at the check and said, 'This is really very generous of you.' 'No,' said the man. 'Her brother was the generous one.' Everyone in the store had been observing the odd commotion and began to clap. And I drove home that day feeling very American. We live in the Land of the free, because of the Brave!!! Remember our Troops of Yesterday and Today!!! A great example of why we should be kind and patient. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear. May God's many blessings continue to be with you - ALWAYS!!! |

Traci and Bella - This is a great group of people here. They make you feel like you have known them forever! Keep up the good work and we can definitely encourage each other!! The storms are coming. We have had off and one rain all day. Not the winds that they called for but the breeze is starting to pick up a bit right now. I have to take my daughter to her basketball game about 40 minutes away. I HATE driving in this kind of weather. Diana - those recipes sound really good, especially the one for the pork chops. Have you tried any yet? Chris - I don't think they have a place like that near me in New York. The only seafood I eat is shrimp, Tilapia and salmon!. My husband loves it but I'm not big on it. Give me a steak and a baked potato, NOW you're talkin'!!! ![]() Christina - did you get any storms?? Well, I will try to get back on again later. Karen |

Hi Christina,
the pork one does sound good! Yes, Mary told me about that in my journal. I read it but it seems too complicated for me. I know I'm dense!!! ![]() |

Hey everyone. I'm baaack.
My gut problems are continuing. I should fess up to what I did. last week (on Wed) I bought one of those little bags of russell stover sugar free coconut candies. I LOVE coconut (used to gobble mounds bars when I was a kid). ANYhoo. Pig that I am I at all 6 of them. didn't mean to but I was headed home from the store and it was past lunch and I was hungry and 15 minutes later they were gone. Oh did I pay for it. A few hours later my gut started gurgling. then it started CRAMPING. After several visits to the bathroom I was promising myself I would NEVER EAT SUGAR ALCOHOLS AGAIN. Since then my gut has been a mess. I'm constantly bloated and feel like I gained 10 pounds overnight. Much agony later things are starting to move again but the bloat will not go away. grrrrr. I'm also afraid to get on the scale. Last week I was back at 200. DAMNDAMNDAMNDAMN. But I dropped 2 pounds again just before I had the sugar alcohol trauma. sigh. anyway. I'm still reading through Campos's book but have also started Mary Enig's Eat Fat, Lose Fat and after the last week of horrid constipation have decided to add back in a few more carbs. So a 1500 calorie day would be something like 141g fat, 57g protein and 50g carbs. I hate to say it but I already feel better. I did the Zone about 12 years ago and lost 2 pounds a week every week for 8 weeks. Kept it off, too. Don't ask why I quit. I think 40% carbs is still too much but I remember I felt really good while I was doing it and was never hungry even though it's 1200=1300/day diet. Or was. Anyway. Mary recommends taking 1-2 TBS of CO in warm water or tea before every meal. That's ok, was close to doing that anyway. But putting a whole TBS in the cup sure sticks with ya. Breakfast was 4 slices of canadian bacon (paper thin slices), 2 eggs scrambled in CO, a slice of Bohemian whole grain rye (it's been in the fridge forEVER and has gone sour but it was still tasty) with, ready? a TBS of butter on it. Yup. Boy was it good. We went to the gym and I did 25 minutes on the elliptical and 25 on the recumbent bike. Had errands to run and it was after 1 when we got home so I was getting hungry. Made taco salads with 80/20 ground beef, refried beans (just had a tbs), sour cream, fresh salsa, 1/4 sliced avocado, lettuce etc and yes, in a corn tortilla bowl. I ate about 3/4 of the bowl. Been a looooooong time. Anyhoo. Lunch was a whopping 700 calories and I've now topped out my protein at 59G, carbs at 48. So for dinner I'll have a deviled egg (just made some fresh mayo with Enig's 3 oil blend of CO/sesame/olive ... one cup each) and apple cider vinegar. TASTY. And a coconut lime cooler. this is SO good. I had one yesterday. I used 1/2 cup coconut milk, 1/2 cup water and the juice from 4 key limes and a few drops of liquid splenda. WOW it was yummy. and filling. but it'll keep me low on the carbs and protein and the calories but fill me up. I've also ordered Barry Groves's book and am looking forward to reading it. I know Mary would probably frown at my taco salad but it just SOUNDED so good. Well, we all have to have off days, right? Last edited by DarleenMB; 07-23-2008 at 05:47 PM.. |

Hi everybody, well the rain hit, oh wait, there's thunder, oh well. I thought the storm was over, I guess not. My husband took my daughter to her basketball game, 40 minutes away and gets there and they cancelled the game. Do they NOT realize how much gas costs????
Anyway, i was wondering if i am actually taking in enough carbs??? I eat 2-3 eggs in the morning with 2 pieces of bacon, for lunch i will have either a few slices of deli turkey and maybe some salad, today i had 3 left over german meatballs and some zuchinni and for dinner tonight i cooked some chicken cutlets in a little olive oil and had that with brocolli casserole from lindas low carbs it's made with cream cheese and cheddar cheese and baked. it was delicious but I am wondering if I am getting enough carbs in at all. i usually have a meat and a big bowl of salad with olive oil for dressing. i am thinking that I'm not getting enough carbs in. Hmmmm............. I think I might need to start counting carbs, I've been winging it. I'm not overly hungry either so to add more food to my intake makes me grossed out right now. HEEEELLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! You know, everybody is talking about these blueberry muffins and I am really craving something sweet. My husband just got some Jell-o so that might help, I hope or I'm going to go down there and eat one of my daughters Reeses peanutbutter cup, no not really but doesn't that sound good? NO, back away from the Reeses, BACK AWAY FROM THE REESES!!!! Alright, I'm tired, as you can tell. I'm going to go watch Big Brother Good night my "new friends!" Karen |
