Start Induction 3/22/08

I did atkins back in 2001 and lost 60 lbs in 4 months. I got fairly sick, non eating related and went back to my old way of eating.

There have been numerous things I have done in the span of the last 7 years, but I"m back to atkins. Mainly because my husband has lost over 100 lbs becuase he has celiacs, and follows a low carb diet. Since both my husband and daughter has celiacs, it will be a little easier to not have crap in the house.

I'm an emotional eater, and I know this. My genetics have a lot of predisposed addictive behaviors, mine just happens to be food. I will never cure it, but I hope to keep it in check.

So, Saturday I started induction. Sunday, I weeped for Chocolate. I wanted my old friend and refused to play with her. I pretty much weeped off and on all day long. Today, wow, I felt much better. I still had the weakness and off feeling but not near as bad. I'm hoping tomorrow will be even better.

I made extra dinner so that I could take left overs to work, now I just need to come up with good snacks to keep at work.

Hoping I can meet some new friends to help keep me accountable on my journey.

I am a daily weigher always have been, don't think it will ever change. I started at 262 Sat morning and this morning was 256.8, yep I think induction agrees with me! lol

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Congratulations on seeing the scale move so soon! I'm not much of a snacker, but many people enjoy pork rinds (with or without a dip), deviled eggs, celery sticks, cheese cubes, slices of meat. There's also recipe sections to this board that are wonderful. Welcome!

I couldn't believe it moved so soon. I was expecting at the end of the week, but not this soon! I picked up some Keto sticks last night and they were "Small" and today they are "Large", so I guess I'm doing okay with my food choices.

This is crazy good, and I'll take it while it will move so good! lol

Way to go!!

I've done Atkins off and on for years. Recently, I was put on maintenance Prednisone and keep gaining weight. I was up to 175 on Saturday morning and decided then and there, that I needed to give Atkins a try again. This morning I was at 168, I'm sure the bulk of it was water weight, as I've cut out all drinks but water (that's a big step from 5-6 coke zeros a day to zilch).

So, we started on the same day, let's stick to it!!!

Tracy, I totally relate with the giving up sodas!! What a crazy migraine I got because of the detox too! Ugggh...

Today ended up not being totally wonderful. Last night I didn't plan as well as I normally do. I woke up behind before I even started. So for lunch today I went to subway to pick up a roastbeef salad and asked for ranch. When I got back to work, it was FAT FREE ranch! I had nothing else at work, so I ate it. I can not do dry salad. Then my boss made brocolli salad and was going to be hurt if I didn't try it, well she said she used hellmans so I figured I would be okay, only to find out it was very very sweet tasting. So I'm a little scared I've thrown myself off. However, I'm not going to beat myself up especially if this is about long term change and the rest of my life.

The scale read 254.8 so it will be interesting what tomorrow says.

Definately lets keep updated on each other!

I love those homemade cheese crackers. I eat tuna salad on them and egg salad and also use them for taco salads. You have to be very careful with them because you can easily go over your daly cheese allowance.

Aloha! May I please join you ladies? I just began Induction on 03/24/08!

But not as fortunate as you all to see the scale move yet ...

I would love to see posts of your daily menu's - would you care to share?

(I've been using the Induction Menu's at Linda's Low Carb site)

I'm doing good on 20 carbs a day but I think maybe I'm eating too much cheese and heavy cream. And not getting enough exercise either!

I'd love to give/get support/encouragement with a nice group like you! It looks like we all started around the same time and similar stats too!

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I started induction on Monday, 3/24. So far so good. I feel really good. I am already down 5 lbs on the scale. I am a daily weigher too. It's hard to break old habits.

Usually I get really bad withdrawal headaches when I start induction. So far, I haven't experienced that yet. Hopefully, I will be able to stick to the plan. I lost 40 lbs about 1 year ago by going to a diet doctor and following his plan. I have since put it all back on and haven't been able to get back on his plan. I thought I would try Atkins again since it has worked for me in the past.

Atkins used to be some much easier years ago when they didn't have all of these "low Carb" products on the market. Now, it's hard to distinguish between what is really atkins-friendly and what is not. I just try and stick to the basics and try not to snack at all.

Good Luck to everyone. I hope we all do GREAT!

[quote=hummingbird11;10108950]Aloha! May I please join you ladies? I just began Induction on 03/24/08!

Of Course you can join us! Glad you are here with us on the journey.

Let's see you asked about what we eat.

I get easily discouraged and sick of eggs....lol So for breakfast I will do one of the following.

1. Natrual Choice Lunch Meat (No Gluten, No MSG, No Nitrates) wrapped around celery stuffed with cream cheese.

2. Eggs & Sausage or Beacon

3. An Atkins Shake

Lunch, I try really hard to make enough dinner for leftovers for lunch so I can carry it to work easy. If I don't end up making enough (I have a good size fam) I will go to Subway around the corner from work and get a salad with ranch dressing.

Dinner,

Linda's recipes are awesome. I am a very creative cook...lol So its a little hard to describe what I make. I love taco salads though so that is a weekly thing for sure.

Snacks...String Cheese & Stuffed Green Olives, or occassinally I will eat Pork Rinds, but not normally. I will do pickles with some lunch meat, or I will do the cream cheese stuffed jalepenos..YUMMO!

My ketosis sticks show me varying between Moderate to High levels every day.

Don't know if that will help you any, but there you go.

Look forward to hearing more from you!

Lisa

WooooHOOoooo 5 lbs is awesome!! The scale still said 254.8 this morning, so I'm happy, I might make 10 lbs total this first week and that would be totally awesome! I know that won't happen every week but what a way to start.

Glad you joined us and hope to hear more from you soon!

I agree about all of the convience foods available. When I did this my first time around that stuff just wasn't available. I did well last time simply by eating real, whole food- meats, veggies, fat and drinking only water. I have used that same line of thinking this time around and have manage to lose 25 lbs in just under a month

I did have an imitation crab salad disaster today-- but I am also trying to just "get over it" and move on...we'll see.

The first time I did Atkins I used the imitation crab salad and still lost just fine, so don't sweet it.

Wow, I am down another pound today. That's 6 pounds in just 5 days. I love this diet. I feel great. No sugar withdrawal headaches. I feel so much less bloated.

The only problem is my mind is starting to wander already. I've been thinking "What can I snack on that is legal?" Usually that is the start of my downfall because I will start eating those things that you really shouldn't have during induction. But I am going to try and fight through it. I just need to keep my mind busy. I am going to jump on the elliptical now and turn on the tv. Hopefully these bad thoughts will go away.

Good luck everyone. Have a great weekend.

Gemini,

Good luck. You will do great this time around. Just try to focus as much as you can. Stay busy. I find that when things slow down and you start to relax, your mind starts to wonder and you start thinking about BAD things.

Take care!

Oh wow Joe 6 lbs is awesome!! My first week wrapped up with a loss of 9 lbs! I agree I love this woe too! Let's keep it up!

Gemini, is there something we can do to help you get over the hump? Cuase we are all here to cheer you on! Intead of meals I consider all my "meals" snacks, and definately eat when I'm hungry. Even if it's only been 2 hrs. Now I also have emotional eating issues, so I try and tell myself that food isn't going to solve it and come here and read posts. Are you keeping variety in your meals? Sometimes that holds off the going the wrong direction.

Can I please join in? I was doing great until a week or so ago, I quit coming to the boards and got discouraged, one bite of sugar was all it took!

But, I told my husband tonight that I was going to start over, I felt so much better when doing LC. I never really did induction, but I plan to start induction tomorrow!

I hate to sound needy, but I will require a lot of cheering on! LOL!

Blessings

Give induction a go, the first two days were easy for me, it was day 3 that was hard. Each day since has gotten a little easier.

Thanks Lisa & Joe! I started off today with no breakfast, (I know this is not good, but I slept in til time to get ready for church, and had to miss breakfast) Sundays are no breakfast days. I had pork roast with a slice of cheese and a glass of water for lunch.

I'm thinking ahead. A week from Wed. I will be leaving town, flying to Maryland for a 6 month checkup. I will be a out patient at the hospital. (I am inquiring about local restuarants for LC eating). I know they have a Houstons nearby. Does anyone have any good idea's on snacks that travel well? If I don't plan ahead I will be standing in front of the vending machines at the hotel! I usually have almonds, but they are not allowed on induction.

Thanks and Have a Blessed Day

Induction Week One:

Well ... I did "OK" on Carbs this week ... but next week I'll do even better!!

Plus I'm gonna reduce my cheese & cream intake AND get more exercise! (didn't do so well on Exercise this week)

My Daily Carb Counts for Week 1:
Mon-24 / Tue-22 / Wed-23 / Thu-19 / Fri-53 / Sat-33 / Sun ?? (I’m gonna be Extra GOOD today!!)

I blew it on Friday night cause I drank a beer and a glass of red wine along with our Cauliflower Crust Pizza. And I drank two glasses of red wine on Saturday nite. But NO alcohol allowed for me (during Induction) the rest of the week ~ from now on, only one or two glasses of red wine on Friday/Saturday nights (only) but NO Beer! A girl's gotta have her vices!

BUT ~ I weighed myself yesterday and I have lost 5.5 lbs!! OMG!! I am super excited since it seemed like for so long like I was NOT losing … I Somersized for 3 weeks before starting Atkins Induction on 3/24.

FYI:
I am seeing a Hypnotherapist to help release me from my cravings AND to help me want to drink water and exercise. I never thought I'd say this, but it seems to be working! Now, I did interview 3 hypnotherapists before choosing this one and the first 2 sucked. Honestly. But the 3rd one - wow. She was actually a real therapist at one time AND she has worked in hospitals and at Jenny Craig and is very familiar w/ Atkins. Jackpot! And she is super nice and helping me get to the root of my issues re: food and my emotional eating. I highly recommend hypnotherapy as a wonderful support & motivation mechanism during this process.

INTERESTING: she told me that only 10% of our brain is "conscious" and the other 90% is "subconscious" ~ so no matter what our "conscious" mind decides to DO; there is always this "chatter" from our "subconscious" attempting sabotage our best "conscious" efforts. And as we know, it usually wins. That's where hypnotherapy comes in. The suggestions to do "different" are planted in your "subconscious" where they can truly take hold and be much more powerful. She gave me a CD copy of our session so I can play it every day on my own for reinforcement. It is like having your own little cheerleader and motivational session.

I've only had one session but I booked 6 total and go every 2 weeks ... I know myself and know I cannot do this alone and need professional help to end my food issues once and for all. I am tired of my battle with food. I don’t mind a little friendly sparring; but I want to win the spars in a healthy way!

XO,
HB
