I started my Induction yesterday...

Hi everyone! I stumbled on this place when I was searching for some low carb advice. I started the Induction Phase yesterday with my mom and boyfriend.

When I was 15, I went on Atkins and lost about 50 lbs. I started at 225 and got down to 175, so I was doing good. I feel pretty horrible that I've gained all that back, but I had some stuff go on in my life and I found out what a bad emotional eater I am. Well, since I know that Atkins was successful for me, I'm going to try it again. Will it be any less effective because I've done it before?

Also, I was just curious to see what you guys had/have to eat on a typical day during the Induction period. Today I had 3 pieces of chicken and a salad for breakfast, a salad for lunch and a couple cheeseburger patties with broccoli and cauliflower for dinner.

I've also decided to give up diet sodas and caffeine. I think that's why I've have such a huge headache all day. But anyways, I'll probably be hanging out here for support often, so it's nice to meet you all!

Congrats on your decision to come back Krystle! I, too, lost a lot of weight LCing a few years ago and slowly regained. Today is my first full week back and I am down 12 lbs. !!! The first 2 days I suffered BAD withdrawal symptoms- but I think the loss will be a great motivator and has cured my blues. This woe definitely agrees with my body.

A typical day for me this week was-
B- 2 boiled eggs w/ lots of pepper
L- Large chef salad with FF ranch dressing
D- 2 chkn breasts with broc & caulif w/ melted cheese
S- Pork rinds and sour cream for dipping
I drink nothing but water-- at least 100 oz per day

Here's to being older and wiser! Good luck, keep us posted.

Hi.

I started induction a couple of weeks ago and immediately lost 4 lbs and have been gaining and losing that same four pounds ever since (down 2 right now). I have been having a small cup of coffee in the am and a very light scotch and water in the evening and I think those have to go. Its terrible. I gave up caffeine years and years ago when I first tried Atkins and just started drinking coffee a couple of months ago. Now I have to get that rotten headache again! Think that's why I've been a little bad with my morning cuppa! Just goes to show that what works for one person will not work for another. I'm also coming to realize that when you repeat Atkins, you might not get the same results you got before.

The wonderful thing about this WOE is that even if the weight loss is slower than before, I know it will happen eventually, and that's OK with me and I feel so much better.

I'm going to get ANOTHER book (have all of them at home but not here) and make sure I'm doing other things right. I also enjoy the Atkins web site for advice.

Good luck to all of us - actually that should be happy eating!

Kris- I agree that the coffee and scotch should be gone-- for now. Also make sure that your not having any hidden sugar like in sauces, condiments, etc.

My loss is pretty quick (as was my first time around) because I have so much more to lose than you and I would like to think that I help it by staying VERY strict and drinking water constantly. I have already noticed increased energy and NO back pains!

I hope that you see some loss after you make your changes. Keep me posted. Good luck!

Skoolmarm:

Cut out the scotch and was down a half pound this morning, for a total loss of 3 lbs and I feel like I'm going in the right direction. Still having a cup of coffee in the am. Have to plan on a couple of quiet days to deal with the headache.

It's so funny. A friend of mine assured me that a cup of coffee and a wee little drink in the evening didn't hinder her weight loss at all. Guess I have to go by the book. I also have to up my water. The last couple of days have been so crazy that I haven't been good with water (not a lot of pit stops possible) so I have to drink and drink tomorrow. I'm also trying to eat mini meals throughout the day. I'm one of those people who can't eat breakfast until about 11. The thought of food makes me squeemish but once I start to eat.....

Thanks for being there for me. I've met the nicest people on this site!

Kris-
Congrats on the loss! Doesn't it feel good to see results of better choices made? I think once you're ready to give up coffee you'll see another loss. I was a Crystal Light and diet soda addict until I started. I only drink water, water, water- at least 100 oz per day. I do notice that I'm not really hungry when I eat LC- but I eat because I know I should. I'm also pretty full because I am constantly drinking water- it has made my 1 hour commute each way pretty challenging!

Have fun & keep me posted!

Hi, Schoolmarm:

I'm down a little tiny bit again this morning. Love to see the scale going in the right direction. I'm trying to drink lots of water but proximity to a bathroom becomes critical. If I know I have to go out, I have to cool it a little. I've never been very big on soda of sweet drinks. Aspertame gives me vicious headaches and short term memory loss. I know the FDA says its safe, but I don't believe it. I remember seeing Richard Simmons on TV one day talking about diet soda, which he drank all the time, and as an experiment he stopped drinking it and lost 5 lbs! He recommended drinking only water. You know, he comes off as such a kook on TV but I took an excersise with him in person at a convention I was attending. The man is absolutely charming in person! He made everyone in the class feel special and cared about and I've absolutely loved him ever since. Not enough to exercise to the oldies with him every day but I would if I could. My knees have gotten so bad I have to stick with gentler exercises, like sitting in a chair reading. Do you think that could be another one of my problems?

Have a wonderful day!

Aside from walking my lazy English bulldog Sofia, I don't exercise as much as I should either. It has also been cold and snowy and cold- you get it. I keep telling myself that once the weather gets nicer or once I lose the weight I'll exercise more. Time will tell.

As a classroom teacher, I know all about the problems that occur when I try to get all my water in! I feel sorry for my neighbor teachers lately since I am asking them to watch my class so I can run out for a minute!

Have you tried the McDonald's Southwest grilled chkn salad?! It's my fave meal. I think the dressing is high in carbs (11), but it's not bad if you use half the packet and add extra lime juice. I have had it several times already and it's delicious. I drank my 100 oz of water again today -- wooooohooooo!!!

nite'

Good morning.

I haven't tried the McDonalds chicken salad. I'm not sure where the nearest Micky D's is. Take that back. It's about six miles from here and my husband and I had many happy dates there about 40 years ago! LOL.

I visited the Atkins site today and they had a great sounding recipe for Gingery Grilled Chicken with Rosemary and Peaches. Lots of my favorite things in there. I'm going to try it as soon as I can.

When I'm working and doing low carb, it's just a quick run to the grocery store where they make me a great sandwich, no bread, with a quarter LB of meat, cheese, tomato and lettuce. All that for under $2.00! I don't know if their prices have gone up, they probably have because everything at the grocery store is going sky high, but what a deal it was, and fresh and tasty and healthy! Now that I'm here taking care of mom, I just grab a hard boiled egg and whatever looks good in the fridge. I do miss having someone do some of the cooking for me. I never realized that, as much as I love cooking, that making three meals a day can get to be a real drag!

Talk to you tomorrow. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Oh, by the way, down a little over half a pound this morning. It had to be that demon scotch!.

Congrats on the loss again. I am also happy to report another 3 lbs. gone- that's a total of 17 lbs in just about 2 weeks! I am hoping to beat my record of 27 lbs in 4 weeks that I achieved a few years back when I did LC. It took me just under a year to lose 100 lbs.--- and then about 3 years to gain it all back That is a nightmare that will NOT happen again.

That sandwich sounds great and a reasonable price too. I don't know of any deli that would fix that--- wish I did. Aside from the loss, I think I'm sneaking in one too many carbs because I have been feeling hungry and craving sweets bad. I'm thinking it's the dressing, or bits of beans and corn (not much) in the Mickey D's salad. I think I'll lay off for a few days. I also have been having salads twice a day for the last week and I think I'm also craving some meat and fat. DH and I are going out tomorrow night, maybe I'll go out for a thick steak and green beans with sour cream.

It's going to be hard not having a drink when I go out- luckily hubby doesn't drink.

Take care.

Oh, I was so naughty with bacon yesterday. Way too much salt so I'm up a lb this morning. Also didn't drink enough water. ALSO had one tiny glass of wine! Maybe I should take this WOE seriously and FOLLOW THE RULES! At least I haven't gone over the number on the scale that I'd never seen before that rushed me into doing Atkins again THAT DAY!

Your dinner plans sound wonderful. Maybe I'll deforst a steak and have that for dinner, too!

Corn and beans are loaded with carbs. Don't have a count, but lots and lots, although they have lots of fiber, too.

My dad was having quite a time with his diabetes when I first arrived in CT and I learned tons of stuff about carbs, fiber and blood sugar in very short order. Had to. I got his diabetes under control with his normal medications and changes in his diet. I was really proud of myself and I know that he was proud of the results. Made both of us happy. I'm sliding off track again. My mind gets wanderlust sometimes when I'm at the computer.

Have a wonderful day and a great evening!

You're right about the corn n beans- i think i should avoid that salad until im off of induction in a few months. i don't think i have a bad reaction with salt- maybe because i drink tons of water?? aside from the corn n beans- i have managed to stay strict! i set a new goal of not weighin in everyday- that is going to be tough for me. I am not going to weigh in until next Saturday--- I'm scared just thinking about it!!!

We did go out to eat and i had a HUGE double cheese steak burger with mushrooms and salsa (tomatoes!!! oh well, it was Friday after all). I also had a small garden salad w ranch dressing. Great dinner. We also went to the movies and it was my first time going since starting this woe. it was crazy not to eat popcorn and reese's pieces- my usual movie fare. i sat in the theater with my bottled water?!?! what is this world coming to???

OOOHHHH! Your dinner sounds sooooo goooood! I've started my corned been for tonights dinner and it's starting to smell pretty good in here!

I sympathize with you going to the movies without popcorn. I love the movie popcorn with extra butter! Wonder if they'd just give me a cup with butter and salt next time I go! Don't go to the movies very often. We live in a very rural area with very very severe winters and it's so much cozier to snuggle in front of the woodstove with the critters than drive an hour each way to a theater! Plus, the price you have pay for popcorn and a soda! Last time we went, I couldn't believe it!

This weekend was very busy for me so I didn't have time to even turn my computer on!
Glad you had awonderful weekend and Happy St. Patty's Day to you!

Dear Skool:

I'm so discouraged! My weight is just sitting there. Fluctuating by a few pounds up and down day after day. Made a giant discovery this morning, though. I was in ketosis first thing in the morning and tested after my one cup of coffee. No ketosis! POOP! That gets to go. As I said before, I've been off caffeine for years and years and just started drinking coffee again a couple of months ago when a freind visited and decided I spent too much time bumping into walls in the morning.

Well, off to the laundry. Lots of stuff to do today.

Hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for letting me vent!

P.S.

Did I mention that my cousin started WW about the same time I started lo carbing and she's lost about 15 lbs!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I used ketostix the first time I lo-carbed and it turned into one more thing to obsess about. I refuse to use them this time around. I did manage to lose another pound over the weekend-- I'm jumping for joy in my head. The only sad thing about it is that at my weight, losses are not noticable until about 30-40 lbs oh well...

Your weight is going to come off more slowly than me because you have sooooo much less to lose than me. However, the only advice I can offer is to be sure you're eating "clean" during the first few weeks. I eat only meat, acceptable veggies, fats like oil and cream, and drink gallons of water. I drink no coffee, diet soda, or Crystal Light. I have had NO cheats during this time- not even gum, cough drops, etc. So, check your menu AGAIN and make sure it is "clean" as a whistle.

It WILL happen for you and when it does, you're going to leave me in the dust!!!
