fasting and ketosis

I went from 189 to 179, fell off the wagon in a big way, and am back to 186 or so. Today as an experiment I'm kick-starting with a fast -- this morning I had an Atkins shake, and I won't eat again until tomorrow morning. I know it's not the best thing to do, but I wanted to see how I feel. Has anyone else ever started this way?

can't say that I have. I love food too much to fast! But do be careful, you should really eat when you are hungry. If you don't your body may betray you and hang on to some weight in protest.

That just doesnt not sound very safe, try doing M & E's (eating only Meat and Eggs) for 3-5 days. At least this way your getting something in your body, you really dont want your body going into starvation mode.

I got through my 24-hour fast, but I wouldn't recommend it. I went to bed with a bad headache and couldn't wait for my eggs and sausage in the morning. But it did help me kick-start my induction period, losing 3.5 pounds in water weight and ridding my body of the bad things I had put in it. Today at a meeting I was presented with free bagels, muffins, sandwiches, chips, cookies, and beer and had no problem passing up on all of them.

actually you also used your protein stores for the protein needs of your body yesterday too so you have shed not just water weight but lean body tissues too.

Enjoy your Induction foods and you will shed your body fat in a safe manner.

what you doing for that mandatory exercise part of your Atkins?

mmiller, Question. When you went back to normal eating did you maintain the 3.5 loss or did you gain some back?
