Fat and protein grams per day? Percentages?

I'm curious if there is a certain amount of fat and protein that should be a minimum and maximum per day?

I'm using Fitday, which is such a great tool - I'd like to watch my percentages a bit more and want to make sure that I'm on the right track.

Thanks for your help!!

I will be watching this thread with interest because I don't think my fat is high enough.

On my menu critique thread, I asked about fat percentages and this was the response:

I use Lifeform to log my food. It tells me that over the past week I've eaten 70% fat, 6% carb and 24% protein. Average daily carbs is 22 not counting fiber.

well this is actually a 2 part question. First according to Dr Atkins staf abck in 2002 the %s were fats 65% proteins 30 % and for induction stay under 20 grams for the carbs.

that said you can come up with an infinite number of senerios that will do that for radically different total cals too.

How do we determine the total amount of foods we should eat. Well assuming we do not have any eating disorders we should listen to our body and eat to satisfy our hunger when it tells us it is hungry. With Appetite suppression of ketosis that isn't always possible so we need to pay attention to the signals our body uses like tiredness, crankiness, irritation, dizziness, light headed, mental confusion, etc.
once you learn how your body tells you it needs fuel you can begin to figure out how much you really need to eat. Some days it will be less then others and some days it will be a large amount too. If you have ever seen a picky toddler eat some days you swear they are doing to die of stravation and then other days they are packing away the foods and you wonder where they are putting it. that is feeding hunger. Get in touch with the toddler in you and respond to those hunger siginals.

If you are an over eater learn how little it really takes to satisfy your hunger by following Dr Atkins lesson in DANDR 2002. eat 1/2 the food on your plate and stop ask yourself am I still hungry? if not put it up if yes eat a few more bites and repeat until you see how little you rally need. Knowing on Atkins we can eat again as soon as we are hungry allows us to give up that last meal don't know when the next one will be attitiutde that causes us to pack away the food cause it is there now and might not be later.

Now you have figured out your ratios figured out your hunger and you are listening to your body and you got that ketosis going on so how do you keep from undereating cause you are not hungry? well that is hwere Dr Atkins 6 hr rule comes in. We are not supposed to go more then 6 waking hours without eating and it 6 hrs arrives and we are not hungry then we should have a small protein/fat snack with some of our carbs so make it a nutriant dense snack as you are with all your other foods and you will discover when you check your foods in one of those free counters that you have gotten all the vits and minerals you are needing from your healthy low glycemic veggies and healthy fats and proteins.

Now if you have an ED you should be talking with your doc and counselors to figure out an eating plan for you so you don't use ketosi appetite suppression to become anorexic.

Happy low carbing
