Weighing...

I'm new to these forums. I've always been a daily "weigher" as when not dieting, it helps me to keep a handle on what is going on. But, is it true that when on a plan, to only weigh once a week? I can see the benefit as we won't sweat a bad day, only see the big weekly picture. What do you ladies find helps?

I weigh every day, but I pick only one day a week to write the weight down on the calendar so that I can keep track of how I am doing.

This way, the daily fluctuations really mean nothing in the successes and progress over the weeks!

I think it's especially unhelpful to weigh every day while on Induction, while your body is still adjusting to the new regime. So once a week for that. I was a weigh every day person or a while, but I don't think it's good for me. I tend to being a bit obsessive anyway, so I'd just fret about it.

For me, once a week is best, and I put the scales away in a cupboard inbetween weigh-ins, so they aren't sitting there in the bathroom, tempting me to climb aboard. And this time I'm trying to go less by the scales and more by the fit of my clothes.

Well, I did it again today. Got on the scale, have to stop that. I'm on day 8 and seem to have his a plateau. Weird. Although, I know I'm retaining water because my wedding rings are TIGHT!

Hey RedSkinFan...I'm a daily weigher during induction only. I want that daily inspiration.

However, once those first 14 days are up, it's weekly. I do "log" my weight on a weekly basis, even on induction.

Like most of us will respond, if your rings are tight, are you taking in too much salt somewhere? I was just thinking, this is day 4 for me on induction and my rings are already starting to spin. And I've not dropped enough for them to start spinning. So I know some of my water retention is going bye, bye....

Just a thought on the ring thing.

Keep the faith!!! And do what is best for YOU. I agree, weighing daily can become obsessive, so do whatever works best to keep you going

Hi Skaylarson... Well, my rings had started to spin. Today they are SNUG. It's funny, I had my tubes tied last November after the birth of my 3rd baby. Since then, I don't track AF quite like I used to. Perhaps it's getting close... LOL

I too am a compulsive weigher. It makes me crazy to see all the fluctuations yet I continue. I have gotten better, I only weigh first thing in the morning and that is it.

I weigh every morning and sometimes( yes I admit) I weigh at night to see. Argh it does get frustrating and I have to kick the habit. My rings get snug some days and so loose others. Im trying not to obsess but I guess when you diet all your life learning an actual WOE is hard.

so many friends dealing with all the same issues. that is why I love these boards. There are so many of us battling the same demons.

I do only weigh myself in the mornings, naked. I've even started taking my watch off before (sheese, nuts)

I won't, this time, let it drive me nuts like it has in the past. I do think it's a great guide.

So kudo's to all us daily (sometimes numerous times in the day) weighers. May we continue to weigh daily, but find as said, it is a way of life and once we hit our goals, we'll weigh ourselves less obsessively.. (I miss spell check..sorry about the spelling errors)

Oh, absolutely! Must take the watch off. I'd even take off my glasses, except that would mean I couldn't read the scale!

I will admit I've weighed my glasses on the kitchen scale, so if ever three quarters of an ounce makes a difference between success and failure...

I also weigh every morning. But for me, I only record the losses. I know I don't go off plan, so when I do go up it is only water, and will be gone in a day or two. So if I am up a couple pounds this mroning I know I had something too salty yesterday. (And my rings will be tighter to confirm.) This is what works for me. I think I have learned my own patterns of loss by doing it this way, and so I don't panic over the wrong things.

Yes, that scale is our best friend and worst enemy at the same time! I am trying to not weigh every day... every 3 days right now, I hope to limit it to once a week. I know if I weighed today (as I had a cheat day yesterday) I would scream. So, I don't, and I'm good!

I weigh daily also. It really helps keep me on track and gives me incentive. When I don't lose or gain it's usually because I had too much sodium the day before so I kick up the water and cut back on the high sodium foods.

I weigh everyday. I like to know how food choices effect me. Actually when I didn't weigh everyday I gained and was my highest weight. I would cringe thinking about weighing. The way I look at it is I'm facing this it head on.

I try not to weigh everyday, but I just can't resist. I have even hid the scales and I just dig 'em out. My Doctor's office weighs every patient every time. I have avoided going to the Doctor when I have gained weight, isn't that sad? Gosh, when I think of all of the things I have avoided because of weight gain, it's a wonder I have been seen out in public more than a few times in the last few years.

I weigh myself one a week, usually on a Wednesday. Some time I do not, when I know that I have not had a BM. Then I wait until I go and i see loss. It's funny, I usually have normal BM's on weekend's but during the week not so much. Anyone have a clue as to why? I know TMI. Oh well, we are all in this together right?

Truth, I haven't even weighed in at all yet!! I am scared. I must be somewhere around 180 or so, but have no clue. I'm on day three and think I might try and face the scale tonight. If I do, perhaps checking in once a week would be best. From what I've read, it helps to have that day to look forward to. Especially since your weight changes so much during the week.

I had to put my scale in the closet. I was obsessed and the scale never told me what I wanted to hear. So maybe I'll let it come out in to daylight next month, maybe.

I don't weigh...period. I know that some will disagree with that approach, but my experience was that I became obsessed with it -- weighing before and after meals, etc. and it just worked as a psychological detriment. I have used the ketosticks to ensure I am in ketosis, but other than that, I plan to use measurements based on how my clothes are fitting as my guide rather than weight.
