Start Date: Recommit JUNE 2008
Frustrated ` very long!

A little background:

A few years ago I lost about 100 pounds...I started off with Atkins and then went to South Beach. On Thanksgiving day (still years ago) I ate stuffing and never went back to low carbing....talk about falling off the wagon right?

Fast forward to June 2007, after gaining back 80 pounds of what I had lost I had enough, I was miserable, depressed etc. So I joined Weight Watchers...for the hundred millionth time. As of last Wednesday (my WI day) I have lost about 65 pounds counting points with WW. However I am SICK of counting points and still not feeling all that great (after eating lots of carbs).

I decided to start Atkins again because that is the WOE that is more realistic for me.

I started induction this past Thursday so I am on day 4.

Now why I am frustrated.....

I have not had a BM (if this is TMI sorry) since Friday morning despite the fact that I drink at least 2 gallons of water a day. Now my stomach doesn't hurt or anything but I normally don't go this long.

AND.....

Since Thursday morning I have GAINED 4 pounds. I know this plan works but of course I am freaking a bit right now. I have about another 80 pounds to lose.

Here is my fitday journal if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong so I can fix it ASAP.

FitDay.com - Diet and Fitness journal for mitchellfamily5

Oh and for the constipation....I tried the muffin in a minute and couldn't get past the taste so I only ended up taking a couple of bites. Someone suggested getting Davinci syrups and using Golden flax meal instead of regular...I may try those ... but can't get to the store until at least Tuesday since we are getting 18 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow.

Oh my gosh I know just what you mean. Have you tried a good strong cup of de-caf coffee (this might not be politically correct but it worked for me)

I hate coffee. DH drinks it but we only have regular in the house. I may be willing to stomach it if it will work. Does it matter if it is not decaf?

Actually caff is better but you arent supposed to have too much caff on induction.

Honestly, if you can bear it, it works in about 20 minutes after drinking.

I have this problem whenever I cut fruit out of my diet. I have flax each morning, stir it up with water, protein powder and cream. It's mostly fiber, so very little carbs. I'm also eating cranberries every day to add in a little fruit, but you might not want to do that on induction. High magnesium foods can help, like spinach. You might take a magnesium supplement to help, too.

A couple immediate fixes I've tried are Milk of Magnesia, usually works overnight. Or you could do epsom salts, directions on box. It will clean you completely out, so you don't want to do this when you can't be at home. HTH!

Nope no BM yet. I tried the Muffin in a minute again last night. I broke down and went to TJ Maxx last night to get the Davinci Syrup. The addition of the syrup made it edible but not enjoyable lol. I am so tempted to just use a laxative but I know that is only a temporary fix. I might get the Milk of M tomorrow.

drinking lots of liquids to help that bolus of fiber move through too
you can as Dr Atkins says use a natural vegetable based laxative to get things going and then add lots of fiber rich veggies to your induction picks from the lists.

I have never heard of a natural vegetable based laxative. I'll have to check to see if I can find that. As of right now DH has the coffee brewing...I am going to do my best to choke it down to see if it works.

colon cleanse from walmart is great! I just strated atkins as well, but I was on it 3 years ago before I got pregnant and lost 65 lbs in 4 months. I had the consitpation thing too and that worked/works so great! after you have your first bm (which is usually the next day) start with doing fiber therapy.

Okay...I drank a cup of coffee (blech) hopefully in the morning I'll be able to have something good to report. The Colon cleanse sounds interesting, I'll have to look that up when I am in WM again. What is fiber therapy?

I ended up taking a laxative Tuesday night...I couldn't stand it anymore. The good thing is this morning (Thursday), I had a regular BM without anything I ended up getting Miralax at WalMart last night but have not opened it yet. I am going to see what happens over the next few days.

Oh and the coffee (which kept me up until 3am) did produce a BM...but not much.

If it happens again Senekot is natural based laxative and fairly cheap as well. Now Castor Oil will make you go and I mean go in hours.

up your fiber by picking higher fiber veggies and add some fiber to your cooking by using the legal ones like flax seeds psyllium husks and/or wheat bran.

there is also Benefiber which is a very low carb wheat fiber.
you can also buy corn fiber and oat fiber to add to dishes to increase the fiber content too. once you get lots of fluids and lots of fiber in you the regular exercise you do should move things along for you without laxatives.

Thanks quizzical.....

I ended up buying the miralax and it sits in my cabinet unopened. Everything was moving along VERY well until about 4 days ago. Now I am going in very very small amounts and the scale shows a 4 pound gain...which I am quite sure isn't a "real" gain. I am going to ride this out without any help and see if it just naturally corrects itself.

Dr. Eades (Protein Power) recommends Magnesium, I take Magesium Ultra & I'm not a pill person. Dr. Eades says we all lack magnesium. Take any pill that says magnesium citrate or anything that ends with ate. The oxide is the cheapest form of magnesium & not the best.
"Magnesium is a mineral that most people don’t get nearly enough of, despite it’s very underrated health benefits. One of its most important roles is to regulate calcium. Without magnesium, calcium runs amock and causes a meriad health problems and is not used efficiently to fortify bones." Dr. Eades takes one magnesium pill in the evening to stay "regular" & I can attest that it's the best.
Regards,
Barbara

I am going to have to find a good magnesium supplement. We have a GNC along with most drug stores...is there a brand you recommend? Or dosage?
