Starting Induction 11/12, 2nd time, HELP!
2004, lost 40 pounds in 5 months... marriage went down the crapper and I gained the 40 back, plus 10 - this is were I'm sitting now - 3 years later!
About 4 months ago, I started Training full time again and spent about 5 hours a day, doing hard labor riding horses and sweating up a storm. Now you would have thought I would have lost all the weight, but I lost NONE.... but I know I gained a LOT of muscle and lost some inches. Not as much as you would think. Mostly I didn't go down in clothes size even, but they did get less tight and you could tell in my face, arms and legs I was much more toned. I felt stronger and healthier for sure. So, now I'm ready to drop the FAT!!!!!!!! I DO NOT want to carry this FAT anymore! I WANT IT OFF!!!! I have started and stopped EVERY diet in the universe since I gained this weight back. Lasting a week or two, losing up to 10 pounds and being able to gain that back over a weekend. Only thing I ever saw real results on was Atkins (by the book). I want to do that again. I've tried it and failed like 4 times over the past 2 yrs. I do not know why I do not have the will power any more. I am an emotional eater and I've had a lot of stress in my life for the past 2 years and I go straight for comfort food whenever I get upset or stressed. I really need good tips and support right now. TO TOP IT ALL OFF.... I injured my leg/foot Wed week and have fratures, so I will be a sitting duck for the next few weeks!!! I can't get the exercise I'm used to getting everyday. ANY SPECIAL help and tips you can give me is greatly appreciated. |

Good for you that you are ready to tackle it! I know that this board has made the difference in me sticking to this WOE. Without it, I would have given up long ago. It makes me feel like I'm somewhat accountable to the girls. It also helps me to know that other people are going through the same things that I am. My own personal suggestion is to jump into one of the threads/ challenges. We are doing the "Lose 40 pounds by Christmas" challenge, and we're a great group of gals! Not that I'm partial or anything....
Feel free to join us. Good luck on your journey!!!! |

welcome back to Atkins.
Our brains are great filing systems and know from past experiences what foods we used as drugs ( yep foods have pharmacological properties too) to medicate our emotions. As you low carb you can see if you have any triggers that cause you to want to eat more AND you can learn to use other things to fix your emotions. Since you were exercisien and now have to stay off the foot find upper body exercises to do like using dumbbells for strength training or an ergomoneter for cardio as exercise converts many bad emotion hormones to good stuff and also releases some cool brain chemicals like endorphins. Know why you are medicating with food is half the battle if you are angry you want something that will calmm you it you are sad you want something to pick you up stressed a calmer etc then find things you can use that are not foods to also gain the sam effect exercise is a great one. meditation is another as you practice the nonfood responces when your doctor brain is calling for food as drugs those pathways will get stronger and the food ones weaker. ( that is where the exercising your willpower makes it stronger theory comes from) In a few months you will notice Dr Brain isn't prescribing foods any more. Since you know you are an emotional eater keep a jouranl of the Ws who what whwere when why and how you felt before during and after you ate and again 30 and 60 min later along with the foods you are eating. You may find some surprizing triggerring events for over eating too. Happy low carbing

Back on as of 11/12
Hi all, I also went back on Induction on Nov 12th after two years of being off the atkins diet completley. In 2005 I went through some devastating life changes and wasn't able to keep up with atkins and gained all my weight back. I had went from 150 to 125 in two months and now unfourtunatley I am back up to 150. I am ready to do it again and keep it off this time for good. I wish you all luck and offer my support to you all.

PrettyMommy, Cryt - welcome back to you both. Trying to lose weight can make us anxious and impatient, so my advice is three-fold: First, intimately know your plan first-hand; a good foundation is everything. Second, channel the negativity that brought you here, into making positive changes for yourself. Third, avoid looking past the victories that happen along the way to goal. If you lose 2lbs in a week you'd hoped for 3lbs, appreciate that your body responded to your efforts and you're making progress. This time next year you'll look back and be amazed at how little adjustments added up to big success. All the best to you.
